Mistaken Match: Marrying the Enigmatic CEO

Chapter 2400; Angel-God!

A fierce battle was raging on Solaris Island.

In contrast, Chanaea remained tranquil, its mountains and rivers unscathed, its cities alive with the ordinary bustle of daily life. Yet, standing high above Zovince, having just finished addressing state affairs, Ethan was filled with unease.

“Chanaea has already joined forces with all other anti-hegemonic nations, cutting off Eagle Nation on its remaining two battlefront. If we can crush Eagle Nation’s assault on Chanaea, then their 200-year national dominance will come to an end. Whether the world can finally achieve lasting peace… it all comes down to you Emmanuel.”

Ethan’s eyes gleamed with expectation.

Boom!

Just as Yorick and the others were about to strike Jovras, a burst of Black light erupted, sending them all flying backward.

“This is bad…” The old godfather’s eyes dimmed with realization. “We’re still too late.”

“Hahaha… I did it! I finally did it!” Jovras spread his arms wide, and the wings of black mist behind him unfurled, vast and oppressive as though they could blot out the sky.

“After enduring years of humiliation and hardship, my will is now indestructible! The only things eternal are my hatred for Emmanuel… and my love for Mackenzie. Not even a god’s will can compare to mine! Hahahaha…”

The eyes of those present were widened in disbelief, what they had been facing wasn’t a god… but Gautier!

“Looks like world domination is just a fleeting dream at the end of the day. What truly endures is the tangled love and hatred between people. That’s what’s truly unbreakable,” the old godfather murmured in awe, never expecting that human will could actually suppress a god’s.

“Heh… you’ll be the first, old man!” Gautier surged forward, his flight path flickering in and out of visibility, far too fast for the human eye to follow.

“Watch out!”

Liora and Isabella sprang to their feet to shield the old godfather. However, even as strong as they were, they were knocked aside in opposite directions with a single flip of Gautier’s wings.

“Liora! Isabella!” Yorick heart ached at the sight of his old friends being struck. But his injuries had already rendered him unable to fight.

“Die!” Gautier lunged, aiming directly for the old godfather’s face.

Everyone held their breath in fear, for none of them could even see Gautier’s movements. Yet, the old godfather tilted his head ever so slightly and dodged. Not only that, but his palm moved at an invisible speed and struck Gautier squarely in the chest.

Whoosh!

Like a launched cannonball, Gautier was sent flying into the ruins of the temple, slamming into the debris with a thunderous crash.

“Yes! Well done, old godfather!”

“Take down Gautier, and our mission’s complete!”

Quintus and Blake, lying wounded on the ground, shouted in excitement. Who would’ve thought the old godfather is the final trump card?!

Yorick couldn’t help but sigh. Even at over 100 years old, the old man’s strength still far surpassed them sage-level fighters, only for him to shake his head in frustration, his eyes full of sorrow.

“If Lucian were still here… maybe we could’ve wiped out this twisted excuse for a god. What a shame…”

At those words, the crowd’s excitement quickly faded.

Boom!

In the next instant, Gautier burst out from beneath the rubble covering his body and flew up, completely unscathed.

“Heh… not bad for an old fossil like you! But that withered body of yours no longer has the strength to hurt me!” He let out a triumphant, mocking laugh.

The old godfather suddenly clutched his chest, coughing violently.

“Old godfather!” Susie ran over in panic.

Sweat poured down his face as he weakly shook his head. “This body… was never meant to withstand the power of a god…”

“Old godfather…” Tears streamed down Susie’s cheeks.

It was clear to the naked eye his life force was fading fast. That brief outburst of power had pushed his already fragile body past its limit. He was dying.

“Haha! Victory is mine! From now on, I am the world’s one and only god!” Seeing the Old Godfather fading on his own without needing to lift a finger, Gautier burst into manic laughter.

Whoosh!

He flew straight toward Quintus, lifted the large man with one hand, and grinned smugly. “Since Yeringham, you’ve been fighting me for Mackenzie, always standing in my way! You pathetic simp, you licked her boots and still ended up with nothing!”

“Heh… I might be a simp, but I’m a hell of lot happier than you.”

Quintus was barely clinging to life, but he still managed a wide grin, showing not an ounce of reverence for this so-called god. “I protected Mackenzie. I earned her care and respect, but you? You’re the one who ended up with absolutely nothing, just a pathetic fool with godhood and no one to love him.”

Gautier’s expression twisted with fury. He backhanded Quintus across the field but deliberately stopped short of killing him.

“I’ve got nothing? I’m about to rule the whole d*mn world! You’re the ones with nothing! All of you are about to die!”

Gautier roared. “But before that, I’m going to make sure each of you suffers! I want you to see exactly how I’ll destroy Chanaea right here and now ahahah!”

Drunk on his newfound power, the once-sycophantic sons of Yeringham had lost all sense of reason. He flew to everyone who had known Emmanuel and slapped them one by one. Liora, Isabella, Rosa, none were spared. He seemed even more ecstatic when dealing with women, eyes gleaming with twisted joy.

He reveled in the thrill of power like a pauper suddenly becoming the world’s richest man, parading his status before the very elites who once looked down on him.

Everyone lay on the ground, eyes dim with despair. They’d known there was a chance of failure, but they never imagined it would end like this.

For those from Yeringham, especially? Losing to such a deceitful, patricidal monster felt unbearable.

“Old godfather…” Only Susie, the girl who had never joined the fighting, remained overlooked. She knelt quietly beside the old godfather, weeping for him alone.

“Don’t be sad. And don’t lose hope.” That old godfather lay on the ground, his body slowly dissolving into light. His face still carried a peaceful, warm smile as he continued, “Thousands of years ago, Chanaea preserved a legend. It was passed down from Emperor Valois himself.

“When a mortal is blessed with divine blood, when they absorb the power of the sun… they too can become a god. But more than that, they retain the purest of human emotions. They become an Angel-God, glowing with golden light… Their radiance shines like the sun, a force that can restore life to all things…”

As he spoke, a hush fell over everyone, whether lying down, kneeling, or barely standing. It was like they had become children again, drawn in by the quiet voice of an elder telling an ancient story. And perhaps they were so mesmerized, and so hopeful, because behind the temple ruins, a golden light had begun to shine.

Like the rising sun, it emerged from the east, growing ever brighter.

Even Gautier stood stunned, his eyes filled with disbelief and fear. No! I am god now! I will remain victorious!

“Old godfather… the sun is rising. The darkness is fading. A new day is coming…” Susie sobbed through her smile, whispering to the old godfather as if to tell him the end of the story.” The legend you spoke of… it’s coming true.”

The old godfather listened in silence before he slowly closed his eyes, his face resting in eternal peace.

The sun? It continued to rise, lifting into the sky.

Wait, It wasn’t the sun but a figure welding a golden spear, wings of god spread wide, eyes firm and commanding.

It was the Angel-God.
