Mistaken Match: Marrying the Enigmatic CEO
Chapter 2391; Don’t Cry, I’m Really Happy!
“Watch out! Don’t let her right hand touch the Saintess again!” Xarri shouted.
He was the sharpest and most clear-headed among them. The Blackshoot woman hadn’t evolved her right hand, only the left, that meant her right hand still help a curse worm that could absorb the Saintess’ power. And the Saintess’ body was extremely unique. As long as she remained here, she could continuously draw in immense energy. It was as if she came from another word, one made for exactly this kind of situation.
“Arghhh!” Quintus charged at the Blackshoot woman again. He didn’t care what she had turned into, he simply refused to back down. But his speed couldn’t match hers at all. The Blackshoot woman’s claws raked fresh wounds across his body before she kicked him away with brutal force.
“Die!” Dragonicus struck with his blazing spear, launching an inferno as if the entire sky were ablaze.
The triple-S class War God of Tocvale was incredibly powerful. A move like that could have killed nearly anyone on Earth, but the Blackshoot woman dodged it effortlessly, even managing to kick Dragonicus to the ground.
Xarri’s sword came in at the perfect angel for a counterattack, but the Blackshoot woman blocked it with a single claw. With a slight twist of her hand, the blade snapped in two. Xarri’s face sank into despair, the level gap was simply too great. None of their techniques mattered.
“Sainess, give me all the power you’ve absorbed!”
After breaking past the three defenders, the Blackshoot woman reached out to seize Mackenzie. But to her surprise, Mackenzie didn’t comply this time. Instead, she stepped back, twice.
“You!” the Blackshoot Princess snarled in both shock and fury. She gritted her teeth. “Have you forgotten your mission? You’re supposed to help me! You’re supposed to help the Holy Fire organization rule the world!”
“No,” Mackenzie said firmly. “Even if I don’t remember everything. I can feel it, I’m not on your side.”
“You!” The Blackshoot Princess was enraged. She lunged to grab Mackenzie by force. “I don’t care what you think. You’re still my tool!”
The Blackshoot Princess had never even been from the Blackshoot Tribe. She had always obeyed the Great Saintess because she wanted to become queen.
Pretending to follow the Great Saint King’s orders, she brought Mackenzie to Solaris Island to absorb power. The plan had been for the Great Saint King to take the Saintess’ energy and ascend to godhood after arriving. But secretly, she had already planted a Twinblood Worm in her right arm, planning to use Mackenzie’s Saintess body to become a god herself. Now that Mackenzie refused to cooperate, she had no choice but to force her int submission.
“Don’t touch Mackenzie!”
Just in time, Dragonicus’ blazing spear struck from behind.
The Blackshoot Princess took the hit but went into a rage. With a roar, she drove her claw through Dragonicus’ chest. Blood splattered all over Mackenzie.
“Ah!” Mackenzie gasped.
“Hehe… Mackenzie, run. You don’t belong to anyone. I told you before, once I grew up, I’d protect you for the rest of my life… and I meant it… I really meant it…” Dragonicus turned to her, forcing a smile.
That smile, something about it shook Mackenzie to her core. She remembered that smile.
She’d definitely seen it before, but smug, self-assured, delusional, yet kind of stupid and endearingly sincere expression. He must have said those exact words to her in the past. And how, he was fulfilling that promise with his life.
Seeing Mackenzie still froze, Dragonicus spoke again, his voice growing faint. “Don’t cry. I’m happy. Really. I’ve never been this happy in my life. If you’re safe, then my life would’ve served its purpose.”
“Move it! Stop being dramatic and getting in my way!” the Blackshoot Princess roared, tossing Dragonicus aside like a rag doll.
“No!” Mackenzie instinctively rushed forward, but it was too late, Dragonicus fell from the highwall, his body already bloodied and broken. From that height, with those injuries and no protection, the outcome was inevitable.
Mackenzie’s heart flooded with fury and anguish. All of these men… they’re fighting with their lives to protect me. If that’s not love, what is?
“Hehe… Surrender to me, Saintess! Once we’ the Twin Saintess of Light and shadow, unite, we’ll become angels!” The Blackshoot woman reached for Mackenzie again.
The Great Sainess had told her many times, if a human acquired the Saintess’ divine power, they could ascend and become an angel. And she believed that with absolute conviction. She would become on angel, even if the transformation before that was hideous.
“Mackenzie!”
“Your Holiness!”
Quintus and Xarri were too far away to help. After all the effort they had spent to wear her down. If the Blackshoot woman succeeded in absorbing the Saintess’ power now, everything would be over.
But something completely unexpected happened.
Mackenzie suddenly let out a scream of grief and rage. “Get way from me! I said, get away!”
In that instant, a burst of holy light erupted from her body. Blazing, Infinite. Like a burning sun.
The Blackshoot woman’s eyes went wide. She had absorbed this power, yet now, she was being burned alive by it.
“Quintus! Now!”
Xarri, every composed, didn’t miss the moment. He called out to Quintus, and together, they seized the opening, attacking the burning Blackshoot woman from both sides.
With that, she was torn in pieces and reduced to ash.
“Mackenzie!” Despite his injuries Quintus rushed to her side.
Mackenzie had already withdrawn her power. She clutched her head in agony, grimacing. Something was starting to come back to her… but the curse worm placed by the Great Saint King writhed violently. The more she tried to remember, the worse the pain grew.
Quintus was frantic but helpless.
From the sidelines. Yosef had been watching it all unfold with mild interest. Now, he looked even more intrigued. What kind of woman has Emmanuel married? She definitely doesn’t seem human.
Meanwhile, Xarri took the chance to pick up Dragonicus’ spear unleashed its full force on the fortress wall.
Boom!
On the second fortress wall, Emmanuel felt the tremor as the terrain around him shifted again. Another wall had fallen.
“Two more to go. Come on!”
He clenched his fist and quickly activated his communicator to check in on Magnus. Unsurprisingly, Hattie answered instead.
“How’s your brother?” Emmanuel asked.
“His… his vitals are fading.” Hattie replied, holding her voice steady. “But before he lost consciousness, he left me a message. Part of it was for you.”
“What did he say?” Emmanuel asked.
“If he doesn’t make it back… take care of Claudette for him. And also…” Hattie paused briefly, then continued, “Be careful of Gautier, Kill him before it’s too late.”
“Got it.” Emmanuel’s expression darkened at her words.
At that very moment, a helicopter silently descended onto Solaris Island.
Gautier slipped out alone. Once he hit the ground, he darted toward a strange building ahead. Though the Sage Saint had told him nothing directly, he had pieced enough together.
First, the god was at the center of Solaris Island, absorbing power from the Sun Stones.
Second, if he hadn’t emerged yet, it wasn’t because the stones were insufficient, it was likely because he was waiting for the Heart of the Sun to arrive. In other words, waiting for Emmanuel to show up.
Third, if someone managed to acquire a massive amount of Sun Stones energy and combine it with the Heart of the Sun, even a mortal could become a god.
And Gautier, by sheer luck, had figured out how to absorb the Sun Stones’ power. He had found the path to godhood.
“I won’t be anyone’s pawn.” Gautier muttered to himself as he crept into the building. “Sage Saint? Gods? All are just grand illusions. If they’re so omnipotent, did they predict I would be the one to get here? Did they see what I’m about to do next? Heh…” A cold smirk crept across his face as he disappeared into the building.
