Mistaken Match: Marrying the Enigmatic CEO

Chapter 2389; Chanaea’s Number One Angelic B*tch!

“You two…”

Mackenzie’s back landed on both men, cushioning her fall.

Seeing the smiles on their faces, her heart stirred even more deeply. Why are these two protecting me so fiercely?

“Who… are you really?”

The question hit both Dragonicus and Quintus like a bolt of lightning. They had been competing to get her attention, but this caught them off guard. Even though Quintus had suspected Mackenzie might have been brainwashed, it still pained him to witness it firsthand.

“Mackenzie, it’s me, Dragonicus! Don’t’ you recognize me?”

Dragonicus quickly stood and grabbed her arm. But the next second, he sensed something was wrong. Mackenzie’s aura surged wildly. Even when he instinctively tried to hold on, she shook him off with a force beyond his grip.

To him, she no longer felt like a mere mortal woman, she felt like a goddess descended from the heavens.

“Dragonicus… Sheffield-Gray?”

Mackenzie’s gaze remained hazy, but she could at least be sure now; these two men weren’t her enemies. No one who looked at her like that could ever mean her harm.

“Hey, you arrogant b*stard, calm down!”

Shockingly, Quintus becomes the composed one at this moment. “Mackenzie’s under the Great Saint King’s curse worm. It’s suppressing her consciousness and her memories!”

“D*mn it, this is exactly why I hate these wicked sorceries!” Dragonicus gritted his teeth. “Once I get back, I’ll lead an army to wipe out the Blackshoot Tribe!”

“Can you both stop talking about revenge plans and focus on what’s right in front of us?! Xarri’s voice rang out.

The ruler of the Dark Night Islands was currently facing off against the Blackshoot Princes alone, and it was taking everything he had to hold her back.

“Heh, your internal strength may not be the highest, but I’ll admit this, you’re the strongest among the three,” said the Blackshoot Princes, unable to hide her admiration. She thought this one’s natural battle instincts were astonishing. For the first time, she couldn’t gain any edge in technique.

Still, she had inherited power from the Great Saintess, and with the help of various Blackshoot curse worms, her internal strength surpassed Xarri’s by at least wo full ties. Without this advantage, she never would’ve been able to suppress him. Even now, she couldn’t seriously injure him after twenty exchanges.

“Let’s take her down together and destroy the fortress wall!” Xarri shouted again.

Finally, Dragonicus and Quintus joined the fight with a fierce battle cry.

With three against one, the fight raged on without a clear outcome.

Yosef also leaped onto the wall but didn’t join either side.

At the same time, on a high mountain of Greaypine Island, even though Hattie hadn’t entered the battlefield, she could feel the bloodshed in the air.

The metallic stench of blood and slaughter had always spread to where she stood.

“Magnus, you’re finally awake!”

After five days of effort, her brother had collapsed. Now, weak and pale, he finally opened his eyes again. Hattie was overwhelmed with a mix or relief and heartbreak.

“How long was I out?” was the first thing Magnus asked.

“You’ve been out a whole day and night!” Hattie answered through tears.

“Sh*t… I haven’t helped Squad Four locate their fortress wall!”

He struggled to sit up. His face had lost all color, he looked like a sheet of paper, ready to tear apart with a single gust of wind.

Even Aurora couldn’t help wanting to beg him to rest. If he kept pushing, he really would die. But to her surprise, Hattie shook her head at her.

No one knew her brother better than she did. This was the most important game he had ever played. He was born proud. If he gave up now, even if he lived, he would regret it for the rest of his life.

“Magnus, are you finally awake? Our current coordinates are…”

Rosa’s voice came through the communicator.

During Magnus’ coma, it had been up to Isabella to lead them safely. Without her expertise, they would’ve been lost to the shifting Eightfold War Grid. Even so, not even the brilliant Maestro Moretti had been able to locate the fortress wall.

Why? Because after one of the walls was destroyed, the entire algorithm was disrupted. The moment Isabella had cracked the pattern, it changed again.

“Looks like the second fortress wall’s been breached. The algorithm’s changed. Follow my instructions from here,” said Magnus, after quickly analyzing the situation based on their reports.

But upon hearing this, Yorick and Isabella didn’t feel the same rush of excitement as Rosa did for Emmanuel’s team. Instead, they were puzzled, why hadn’t Santiago and Liora broken though the first fortress wall yet?

On paper, the first squad was the strongest. Even Emmanuel had considered them the most reliable group, two sage-level experts, one with the military command experience and the other gifted in illusion magic, who could possibly stop two saints like them?

“Yorick, we’d better be careful. Our enemies may be far stronger than we expect,” Isabella warned in a low voice as they moved.

Yorick nodded. Though eager for a worthy opponent, a flicker of unease crept into his heart.

Finally, under Magnus’ guidance, they located the fourth fortress wall.

“Magnus! Magnus!” Hattie suddenly cried out.

Aurora turned just in time to see Hattie’s tears flood down her face. At that moment, she understood, Magnus had been running on sheer willpower, and now that he knew the fourth squad had found their base wall, his body finally gave out. The mental and physical strain had pushed him past his limit, and blood began to pour from all seven of his facial orifices.

“Hattie… don’t cry…” Magnus smiled faintly. “I’m exhausted… I’m going to sleep for a bit. Once it’s over, tell me how it ends… And if I don’t wake up… tell Claudette that I really did like her…”

“Magnus! Magnus…” Hattie was already in tears, sobbing uncontrollably. She tried to speak again, but Magnus had already shut his eyes and fallen into a deathlike sleep.

Yorick and Isabella never heard his voice again. But there was no time to worry about Magnus, because a new group of people appeared before them.

At the center of the formation, a woman stood atop the high wall, and even the two saints, revered and unmatched, were left with their mouths agape.

“J-Jane?!”

Isabella still managed to get her voice out. Yorick, on the other hand, was stupefied.

After the initial shock and disbelief, a wave of betrayed rage rose in his chest. He knew, whatever was happening with Santiago, If he saw this woman alive, and on the enemy’s side, no less, his reaction would probably be even more dramatic.

“Isabella. Yorick. It’s been a long time.”

Jane’s expression was as mournful and haunting beautiful as ever. When she spoke, her stunning eyes seemed to carry a thousand untold stories.

“Jane, you’re alive! Why did you hide all these years? Are you still serving your mentor’s will?” Isabella asked, her heart twisting.

She hadn’t always cared about national loyalty. But ever since talking with Mackenzie and seeing Emmanuel and the Wolf Warrior Unit fight to the death to protect Chanaea in Zovince, she’d started to understand what it meant to take a stand. And now, seeing her sister on the other side of the battlefield, it broke her heart.

Jane didn’t shed a tear, but anyone could tell inside, she was crying.

“I’m sorry. I can’t defy my mentor’s orders. Or my father’s…”

As those sorrowful words left Jane’s lips. Blake, who had followed his brother to the battlefield, finally lost his patience. “Yorick, this woman just screams angelic b*tch energy. Whatever you do, don’t go soft on her this time!”
