Chapter 2369; To North Star Peak Again

“According to the law, if someone’s been missing for over four years, they can be declared dead. Jane’s been gone for more than twenty years. So, she’s already been officially written off,” Mr. Adkins said, his voice flat, almost detached.

Emmanuel didn’t reply, simply offering a small smile before his eyes dropped back to the file in front of him.

“Silver Dragon Spear saint, Santiago, triple S class.”

“Savage Martial Saint, Yorick, triple-S class.”

“Phoenix Saint, Liora, triple-S class.”

Three SSS-class ranked martial artist.

All of them had the title of Middle Three Saints. Emmanuel blinked. He hadn’t expected to see that. Not with Yorick.

The man had charged through Chanaea, a whirlwind of destruction. Yet, here he was, only Middle Sage Level?

What about the Upper Three Saints? The file flipped to the nest page. His eyes narrowed at the nest entries.

“Blaskshoot Grand Saint. Pol Codin, triple-S class, age 80, skilled in poisons arts, kills without a trace…”

“Martial Grand Saint. Helios Sheffield-Grey, tripe-S class, age 72, master of hundreds of ancient techniques, the ultimate martial artist, with deep ties to the Lannister family…”

“Supreme Sage Saint. Mr. Orunis, triple-S class, age 78, profound master, expert in strategies and instant kills…”

Emmanuel’s lips tightened.

These were not just warriors-they were enemies. Powerful ones.

And all three were ranked higher than Santiago, Yorick and Liora?

If those three ever joined forces, the devastation would be unimaginable.

But Emmanuel wasn’t afraid. If the day came, he’d face them head on. No retreat.

He flicked though the pages, stopping when his own name caught his eye. His file was here. And so was Dragonicus’.

“Emmanuel, triple-S class, Art of Adaptability combined with Northern Region Dragon Breaking Palm, unmatched in the world…”

The file covered the basics, his accomplishments, his battles.

But there were gaps. His Art of Sunflame wasn’t mentioned.

So, the Martial Arts Association didn’t have everything. Not by a long shot.

“When was this data last updated?” Emmanuel asked casually, a hint of curiosity in his voice.

“Commander Emmanuel,” Joe replied quickly, eyes wide with respect and a touch of nervousness.

“This is up to the first day of the new year. It includes your record of taking on three opponents at once, never losing after a hundred moves.”

Joe paused, his gaze flickering to the floor before continuing. “Though… to be honest, while you didn’t lose, the fight didn’t exactly show that you had more strength than Yorick. So…”

Emmanuel could see the tension in Joe’s posture, the uncertainty in his eyes. It was clear he was worried Emmanuel might take offense, might demand to be ranked above Yorick, or even challenge the authority of ranking themselves.

Emmanuel let out a low grunt and flipped to the next page, completely ignoring Joe’s confused expression.

Eve, watching him, couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh.

Only those obsessed with data would get hung up on such trivial details. For someone like Emmanuel, the terror he carried couldn’t be reduced to numbers. It was far more than that.

His attention drifted back to the Seven Sains’ file. Upon seeing Dragonicus was also triple-S, he lost interest in the rest of the details. Without a second thought, he passed the file back to Joe.

“I was planning to head up the mountain anyway,” Emmanuel said, voice nonchalant. “Since you all want to go, might as well join in.”

He didn’t owe the Martial Arts Association any favors, but he did owe the old general’s son some respects.

Plus, they knew North Star Peak better than he did. That knowledge could be useful.

Mr. Adkins and the others visibly relaxed at Emmanuel’s words, clearly relived. After all, the high-level Sage information they needed was locked away up there.

The group spent the next half day climbing, their steps slow and deliberate. By the time they reached the mountainside, dusk had fallen.

“Stop right there!”

Two guards stood at the entrance of building, glaring at them from beneath heavy brows. “This path’s off-limits. If you value your life, you’d better turn around and leave.”

Emmanuel’s brow furrowed at the sight of them.

They’d struck a deal before, guard the base of the mountain, and in return, they’d be given medicinal herbs. Yet now they were acting like this? What happened to their agreement?

Eve, sensing the frustration building in Emmanuel, leaned in and whispered. “Boss, to them, we’re just insects. They probably don’t even remember us. Last time we came for herbs, they treated us like beggars.”

Emmanuel nodded, not bothering to respond. Mr. Adkins had already stepped forward, his tone polite but firm.

“We’re from the Chanaea Martial Arts Association. We’re here to collect the data.” Mr. Adkins said, bowing slightly.

The guards exchanged a glance, unimpressed.

“Oh, you’re here for some ‘wisdom’, are you?” One of them sneered. “Then you can wait outside.”

The rain was falling harder now, a relentless downpour soaking them to the bone.

Yet the guards didn’t budge.

Emmanuel, already on edge, stepped forward, his voice steady but commanding.

“Can we at least get inside to avoid the rain?” he asked, his tone sharp.

The guard hissed back without hesitation, “Don’t be insolent. People like you don’t to step inside.”

It was the same dismissive attitude they’d received last time.

Emmanuel’s jaw clenched, his patience thinning. He was the Northern Region Commander now. With Chanaea’s forces beginning their counterattack, he had no time for this kind of nonsense.

Taking a deep breath, he stepped forward, loading the group.

“We’ve been working with you. I won’t stand for this kind of treatment. The rain’s coming down too hard, we’re going in.”

Eve stayed close, her presence a quiet strength behind Emmanuel.

Mr. Adkins and the others, however, were frozen. Their eyes widened with disbelief.

Eric had warned them. This mountain, this place, it wasn’t for people like them.

The inhabitants were untouchable elites. Stepping out of the line meant certain death.

But Emmanuel and Eve had already crossed the line.

The guard, who had been posed to stop them, faltered. Recognition flickered across their faces. They knew Emmanuel. The same man who had knocked them down over a year ago.

One glance was all it took for them to decide: Let him pass.

They were certain Emmanuel and Evo wouldn’t make it pass the nest hurdle.

Mr. Adkins, Joe and the others shared a brief look before they followed suit. They couldn’t be left behind. Their curiosity burned just as brightly as Emmanuel’s.

What was beyond this checkpoint? Was it truly the promised paradise?

Inside, Emmanuel and Eve didn’t push further. They stood still, waiting.

And then they came, another group, descending from above, heading straight for the checkpoint building.

Leading them was Dicky. Emmanuel recognized him instantly. The same arrogant, polished man he’d bet before.

“Out of the way!” Dicky’s voice cracked like a whip though the still air.

He didn’t seem to notice Emmanuel at first. Perhaps he was too busy basking in his own superiority, or maybe he’d forgotten. Whatever the reason, his words came sharp and cold.

“Who do you think you are? Who let you in? You have no idea what’s beyond this checkpoint. This place isn’t for people like you.”

His tone was like a blade, cutting dismissive.

Mr. Adkins, Joe, and the others, used to commanding respect, found themselves in silence.

Even they could feel the overwhelming pressure radiating off Dicky and his entourage. This wasn’t a fight they could afford to pick.

Emmanuel, however, stood unfazed. He had faced Dicky before and survived. He knew the man’s strength, but it didn’t intimidate him.

As he stood there, something stirred within him. Since mastering the Burning Sun Reverse Heavenly Technique, his senses had sharpened. And Dicky’s presence, it felt strangely familiar, almost like his own.

Emmanuel’s voice cut through the tension, calm but resolute.

“Enough of this, we’re here to find someone and take what’s ours. The rain outside is relentless. Once we’ve done what we came for, we’ll leave.”
