Chapter 2357; Marching Into Canaan

“Good! Where are they?”

Emmanuel’s eyes lit up. The words arrived just as he thought of them.

“In Canaan!”

Emmanuel froze for a moment but proceeded to nod. It made sense upon further reflection.

The Canaan region was a disputed territory between Chanaea and Kasango. While it technically belonged to Chanaea, its authority had long slipped away. It was the perfect hiding spot for those trying to escape the purges from Zovince.

However, the rejuvenation of Chanaea could not be delayed. The armed remnants who sought to overthrow the regime had to be eradiated if peace was to be restored.

“Sage, Eve!”

“Here, Commander Lowe!”

“Assemble the Wolf Warriors. Prepare for immediate mobilization. We’re marching into Canaan!”

A surge of excitement rippled through Sage and Eve. They exchanged an eager glance, then shouted in unison, “Yes, sir!”

Wasting no time, Emmanuel sought out Ethan to coordinate the Wolf Warriors’ departure from Zovince. He trusted that Mackenzie could persuade Dragonicus to step down and restore peace in the country.

Meanwhile, Mackenzie and Quintus had arrived at the Tocvale Army’s temporary military camp.

“Mackenzie, are you here to see me again?”

The recovering Dragonicus bolted out of his room as soon as he heard of her arrival. He looked like the same ragged beggar he had once been.

Despite a strong physique and striking features of a noble upbringing, he remained disheveled. His unkempt beard and carelessness made him seem shabby.

Quintus glanced at him and couldn’t help but smirk.

Mackenzie hates sloppy guys. Does this guy still think he can compete with Emmanuel? What a joke. If anyone’s going to compete with Emmanuel for her, it’ll be me.

He restrained himself from voicing his thoughts as he remembered Mackenzie’s warning not to cause trouble. That was why Dragonicus didn’t notice his presence.

“Commander Sheffield-Grey, how are your injuries?” she asked with concern.

Though she didn’t care for him, she and Emmanuel still needed his cooperation. It was best to maintain cordial relations.

“Haha, It’s just a scratch. Nothing to worry about!” Dragonicus replied with a hearty laugh.

Quintus rolled his eyes. He knew that Dragonicus was on death’s door only days ago, yet he was acting like a hero now.

“That’s good to hear. Chanaea is fortunate to have you. It seems that war is going to break out in Tocvale. Are you ready to return to the battlefield?” Mackenzie wasted no time as she continued.

“A war in Tocvale?” Dragonicus frowned before bursting into laughter. “Impossible!” Those petty Tocvale people have been beaten into submission. They wouldn’t dare cause any trouble.”

“It’s the Holy Fire organization and Eagle Nation!

Quintus was unable to hold back his words. “How did you become the Tocvale commander? A lucky draw? Don’t you know that all modern conflicts are just games between the major powers? Those small nations are just pawns.”

Dragonicus’ glare darkened.

“Quintus, watch your mouth!” Mackenzie stepped in before tensions escalated. Quintus backed off with a pout.

“Like what Quintus mentioned, the Eagle Nation has never given up its ambition to destroy Chanaea. The Holy Fire organization has always armed to take control as well. After Mason lost his bid for president, they’ve grown impatient.

“They’ve likely formed a union and massed troops near Tocvale. War could erupt at any moment.” She added pointedly, “I’m sure you’re aware of this, Commander Sheffield-Grey.”

“Hmph. Of course I am!” Dragonicus scoffed proudly. “But I have a 500,000 Fierce Claw Army. I don’t believe they’d dare violate our borders!”

“They already have!” Quintus hit him with another truth. “While you were unconscious these past two days. Ashdon Nation has provoked Chanaea. They’ve send ships and even civilians to invade our territorial waters. Do you think the world would become peaceful because of you?”

“Shut up!” Dragonicus moved to strike.

Mackenzie jumped between them with arms spread wide and successfully kept Dragonicus at bay. Yet, she had no choice but to rebuke Quintus. “Quintus, on more word and you’re out!”

Quintus grinned, “Okay. No more talking!”

Unless I absolutely must!

Knowing Dragonicus had locked onto Quintus as a target. Mackenzie immediately diverted his attention. “Mr. Hale has decided to revive Chanaea. We’ll strike Ashdon Nation and destroy the Holy fire organization to restore our dignity and eliminate this looming threat.”

“A wise decision! He should’ve done this long ago!” Dragonicus clenched his fist with enthusiasm.

She continued, “But to ensure victory, Mr. Hale had decided to ally Tocvale and Northern. This will be strong alliance.”

“What? Why do we need to unite? Dragonicus frowned. “The Ashdon Nation only has around 100,000 troops. Even with the Holy Fire organization, they total up to 500,000. My Fierce Claw Army could crush them!”

“Commander Sheffield-Grey, this is a national war. We mustn’t underestimate the enemy!”

Her conviction only validated Ethan’s decision. Dragonicus might be powerful, but pride has clouded his judgement.

“Hmph. If Emmanuel wants to join, let him. I’ll let him tag along for some merit,” Dragonicus said dismissively.

Mackenzie smiled. “I’m glad to hear that. I was worried you might not welcome him. This will be a legendry battle with Emmanuel as the lead.”

“Wait, what?”

Dragonicus nearly jumped out of his skin.

Behind him, Elric was just as stunned, though realization dawned quickly. If I were the president. I’d have made the same call. Emmanuel should be the commander, and Dragonicus must be the vanguard!

“I said, you and Emmanuel together will definitely -” Mackenzie chose her words wisely.

“No!” Dragonicus interrupted with a deadly gaze. “I mean the part before that!”

Quintus grew wary at the murderous intent in his eyes as well.

Mackenzie stayed calm but prepared, knowing she’d have to convince him.

Dragonicus didn’t wait, though. With a roar, he slammed a fist into the air, causing a chair to break into splinters. “Why should I, the Tocvale Commander, let some guy from the Northern Region take charge of my battlefield?

“If I agree to this, where’s my pride? Where’s my authority? I’ll never agree to this!”
