Mistaken Match: Marrying the Enigmatic CEO
Chapter 2345; Three Major Matters
“Hmph! Emmanuel, don’t assume I’ll be grateful just because you saved me! One day. I’ll marry Mackenzie-ah!”
Just as Dragonicus began to feel better, he forgot that his life remained in someone else’s hands. Emmanuel had no choice but to let him endure a little more pain.
“Ah, so you can actually scream?” Emmanuel chuckled. “You should tone down that arrogance. It’s only going to bring you trouble.”
Dragonicus shot him a menacing glare. Fine, A real man knows when to back off.
Yet, Emmanuel didn’t let his silence offer him an escape. He continued, “Relax, I’m not going to kill you just because you want my wife. You wouldn’t be able to take her from me anyway.”
“You!” Dragonicus’ face turned red with fury.
Emmanuel pressed another needle into him to quiet him, then stood and said, “The acupuncture will keep you alive for the time being, but you internal injuries are severe. You’ll need special herbs and ongoing care to fully heal. So don’t get worked up, and don’t try to take Mackenzie from me again. If you do, I’ll crush you without breaking a sweat.”
Those rare herbs are believed to grow only in Eastern Star Mountain. To fully restore Dragonicus’ health, someone has to make the trip and seek out the medicine.
Emmanuel flashed a faint smile before turning his back and waling out of the prison.
Even after Emmanuel left, Elric remained unaware, prisons were nothing to someone as powerful as Emmanuel.
“D*mn you, Emmanuel! I’ll make you bow before me on day!” In a fit of fury, Dragonicus kicked the iron door off its hinges and stormed out of the prison.
Meanwhile, in a spacious room nearby, Mackenzie, waited nervously until she suddenly heard a voice call from outside.
“Mackenzie!”
“Emmanuel”?
Though Mackenzie could hardly believe it when she heard his voice, she wasted no time answering, “I’m here!”
the very next moment, the door slammed open, and there he was, Emmanuel walking in.
Overcome with happiness, she ran to him and took his hands, her voice trembling, “How did you get out?”
Rather than saying something showy like, “If I want to leave, no one can stop me, Emmanuel just smiled and said, “I’ve had my fun. No time to waste, let’s go.”
Mackenzie nodded. Though it had only been a couple of days, the situation in Zovince remained in turmoil. As important leaders in both the military and political spheres of Chanaea, neither of them could afford to waste any more time with Dragonicus.
But as they exited, two Tocvale troops blocked their path.
“Stop right there!” Just as a fight seemed imminent, Elric rushed in from behind.
Elric shouted the command, “The Tocvale Commander hass ordered, no one is to stop the Northern Commander and Ms. Quillen from leaving!”
Just when Emmanuel and Mackenzie assumed Dragonicus had given in, Elric added, “Mr. Hale has requested to see you, Please head to the Congress building immediately!”
So, that’s what it’s about.
After a brief nod, Emmanuel and Mackenzie immediately left the temporary military headquarters of the Tocvale Commander.
Though it seemed like an unexpected call from Ethen, Emmanuel and Mackenzie understood, given Dragonicus arrogant and prideful character they wouldn’t have been released so easily unless he had permitted it.
This way the very reason Emmanuel had steered clear of confronting him directly earlier, opting instead to challenge his mindset. Without doing so, who knew what absurd thing the man could have done?
It wasn’t long before they arrived at the Congress building. Rather than an official setting, Ethan met them in a more private space, meaning this wouldn’t be a formal meeting loaded with political language.
“you’re out at last. Commander Sheffield-Grey didn’t cause you any trouble, did he?” Ethan asked, clearly worried. He understood perfectly how difficult it could be dealing with Dragonicus.
“No, he didn’t Mr. Hale, what’s the urgent matters?” Emmanuel wasted no time in getting to the point.
“I summed you here to go over three major matters,” Ethan began without delay. “I need to discuss them with you before taking them to Congress.”
“By all means, go ahead,” Mackenzie said, her tone turning more serious.
“Let’s start with this,” Ethan stated. “Commander Drunkard has been returned to Zovince. He’s unconscious and in a critical condition.”
Emmanuel immediately grew tense. “Where is he? I need to see him now!”
“Hold on, Emmanuel,” Mackenzie murmured, taking his hand gently, Given how urgently Ethan had summoned them, it was likely for something serious. They needed to hear him out first.
“Everything’s under control,” Ethan said soothingly. “Commander Drunkard can hold out for now. I’ve arranged for a full medical team to attend to him. You don’t need to worry. The second matter is related to Tocvale. While I expected external forces to stir trouble in the north. Ashdon Nation in the south has initiated open provocations. It looks like this is part of a bigger plan by Eagle Nation, exploiting the current international tensions. Intel from the front lines reports that hundreds of thousands of troops have been stationed at our border, and a full-scale war could break out at any moment.”
“Ashdon Nation?” Emmanuel asked, clearlly confused.
Mackenzie, being more familiar with the situation, quickly responded. “Dragonicus said that the Holy Fire organization operates out of Ashdon. They’re probably behind this.”
“Exactly,” Ethan agreed. “But if it were just the Holy Fire organization, it wouldn’t be as critical. What really worries us is that Ashdon seems to have support from Eagle Nation. If we don’t take decisive action soon, we could be thrust into war.”
Emmanuel’s eyes widened. “are you saying Holy Fire and Eagle Nation are now allied?”
His expression was one of disbelief, and Mackenzie felt equally shocked.
As far as the knew, Holy Fire wanted Chanaea to regain its former power and status on the global stage. How could they possibly be working with Eagle Nation?
Ethan let out a heavy sign. “Our intel confirms it. Since Mason lost the election, he’s gone underground, and his followers have vanished from Chanaea. It looks like they’re gearing up for a decisive showdown.”
Emmanuel and Mackenzie fell silent, processing the information. Both were skilled and knowledgeable, but when it came to global politics and strategy, Ethan’s expertise far exceeded theirs.
Ethan went on, “Eagle Nation is already stretched thin across two battlefronts. They’ve been doing everything they can to drag us into their conflict. We can’t keep retreating. It’s time to take a stand and face them head on!” His voice was ignited with a newfound intensity.
Emmanuel grasped the situation. Chanaea had been in a defensive position for three decades. Now was the tie to retaliate, to move from defending to attacking Eagle Nation.
“You’re asking me to lead the troops into battle aren’t you, Mr. Hale?” Emmanuel inquired, now fully aware of the gravity of the request.
“That’s right,” Ethan insisted. “Commander Drunkard is unconscious. Dragonicus is powerful, but lacks stragic foresign. Right now, you’re the only one in Chnaea capable of taking command.”
Emmanuel felt an eerie chill creep down his spine.
He hadn’t imagined this day would arrive so fast. One crisis had just passed, and another was already in motion.
“Mr. Hale.” Mackenzie spoke up, her voice caution. “If Emmanuel leads the troops, I’m worried Dragoncius won’t be pleased.”
