Mistaken Match: Marrying the Enigmatic CEO

Chapter 2341; The Tocvale Commander Sends His Regards

“Stand up,” Emmanuel ordered coldly.

Elric hesitated on the ground, frozen. He looked up in shock but didn’t move.

Emmanuel’s eyes sharpened. “As a Chanaean General, you should never kneel or beg, no matter the situation. Do you understand?”

“I understand, but…” Elric tried to explain but once he looked at Emmanuel’s stern face, he scrambled to his feet.

Emmanuel’s voice carried more weight now. “If you kneel before me, maybe it’s because you don’t see me as your enemy. But if you kneel before your enemy on the battlefield… all you’ll get is death.”

He stepped forward and placed a firm hand on Elric’s shoulder. “I see you as a loyal and courageous commander. “That’s why I’ll treat you as a friend.”

Upon hearing this, Elric immediately trembled, quickly straightening his back and saying, “Thank you, Northern Region Supreme Commander!”

Emmanuel gave a small nod and continued, “I consider you as a friend, so I won’t take your life. As for Dragonicus Sheffield-Grey, I might be able to save him, but why should I?”

Elric was stunned into silence.

“If our roles were reversed,” Emmanuel asked calmly, “would you save him?”

Clenching his jaw, Elric thought hard. Then, he answered honestly, “I don’t have your strength your perspective. If I’m being truthful, I wouldn’t have the heart to save an enemy. I couldn’t forgive betrayal so easily. But I believe… you are above personal grudges. You put the nation first.” He continued with growing passion, “Commander Sheffield-Grey’s presence alone keeps the vassal states under control. If he dies, rebellion will follow. Innocents will suffer, and Chanaea will face chaos!”

Upon hearing this, Emmanuel only gave a faint smile. “Flattery doesn’t work on me, though. Do you see Dragonicus Sheffield-Grey as the one who holds Tocvale together and forget what I mean to the Northern Region?”

Elric was speechless, his face flushed with embarrassment.

“So, do you think it’s acceptable for me to die, but not for Dragonicus Sheffield-Grey? If he attacks me, it’s justified, but If I don’t save him, I’m the one at fault?” Emmanuel’s questions left Elric feeling ashamed.

After all, Elric hadn’t risked his life to stop Dragonicus Sheffield-Grey when he went after Emmanuel.

“You’re right, Northern Region Supreme Commander,” Elric admitted, bowing.

“you can go,” Emmanuel dismissed him. “His fate is not for you to decide. You don’t have the right to offer your life in his place.”

Elric clenched his fists tightly and stood silently for a long time before finally offering a formal salute to Emmanuel. He understood Emmanuel’s words, agreeing with the idea that he couldn’t replace the Commander.

Soon, Elric returned to the military command center.

The other Tocvale commanders, seeing his frustration, quickly asked, “General Elric, did Emmanuel refuse to save the Commander?”

With a deep sigh, Elric recounted everything from his meeting with Emmanuel.

“General Elric, don’t lose heart. Even though Emmanuel didn’t agree to save the Commander, he didn’t explicitly refused either!” One of the tacticians grinned. “There’s only one person who can change his mind!”

“Who?” Elric asked, eager to know.

“Commander Sheffield-Grey!” The tactician promptly reminded.

Elric nodded, having already guessed Emmanuel’s plan. With the strategist’s confirmation, he led the group to discuss the nest steps.

Shortly after, Elric and Tocvale soldiers entered a large room. Dragonicus lay on the bed, his face plae.

Just days agi, he had been full of life, confidently pursuing someone else’s women. Now, he looked as though death could take him any moment, a pitiable sight.

Before Elric could speak, the proud 6-Star War God suddenly opened his eyes and sat up on his own.

“Commander!” Everyone gasped in surprise. Elric rushed to help him.

“Don’t touch me!” He barked, still defiant. “I’m not so weak that I need help sitting up!” The others could only stand still, watching in concern.

“Commander!” Elric quickly said with guilt, “I brought twelve divine doctors, but one could heal you, Please forgive me!”

Dragonicus chuckled heartily. “Forget it! Divine doctors are no gods. There are some things even they cannot fix.”

At that, Elric and the other commanders gazed at him with even greater respect. Some even quietly wiped away tears.

Wiping his eyes, Elric responded emotionally, “Commander, even if that’s true… You are the soul of the Tocvale Fierce Claw Army! You’re the pillar of Chanaea! You can’t just die like this… sigh.” He sighed deeply.

The others immediately dropped to their knees and shouted in unison, “The Tocvale cannot go on without you!”

Dragonicus remained unfazed, asking instead, “Where’s Mackenzie? And where’s Emmanuel?”

He was clearly worried that Emmanuel might have escaped with Mackenzie.

If that had happened, then there’d be no chance to speak with her and no way to fulfill the promise he made long ago.

Elric immediately responded, “Ms. Quillen has stayed here at the command post, waiting for you to wake up. Emmanuel!… I locked him in the prison myself!”

“Hahaha…” Dragonicus laughed heartily, clearly pleased. “Good! You’ve done well! The women is mine, and the rival will rot!”

Elric and the others all had awkward expression. Your life literally depends on Emmanuel, and you’re still saying things like that?

Cough! Cough!

As expected, he suddenly began coughing hard mid-laugh, spitting out a mouthful of fresh blood.

“Commander!” Everyone panicked and rushed to his side.

“I’m fine!” He waved them off and still managed a grin. “Now, bring me my beauty! I want to see her!”

Uh? Everyone froze. Isn’t this the same commander who’s always avoided women? He’s turned down every temptation thrown at him, and now he’s doing all this for one woman?

Elric hesitated but spoke earnestly, “Commander, you should speak with Emmanuel first. He’s the only one who might be able to save you. If you meet with Ms. Quillen now.. I fear…”

He didn’t dare finish his sentence. Emmanuel isn’t some saint. If commander Sheffield-Grey continues to pursue his wife, he definitely won’t save him!

Dragonicus, however, sneered arrogantly, “What do i care about that man? Let him stay in prisono and die there. I’ll go meet Mackenzie in secret and make him furious!”

Elric was speechless at what he said. The commander is good at everything, but his personality is just too childish! Sigh! So what if he likes stealing other people’s wives?

The others wanted to intervene, but Elric signaled them to stay quiet. He knew Dragonicus too well, the more they tried to stop him, the more subborn he’d get.

“Fine. Go bring Mackenzie to me. I’m taking her on a proper date!” he declared.

Elric sighed and compiled, silently hopping nothing irreverible would happen. If it did, the consequences were unimaginable!

“Ms. Quillen, Commander Sheffield-Grey requests your presence.”

Soon, Mackenzie received Elric’s message. Guarded in guest room, she listened calmly.

“Very well”, she replied after a pause, then followed him.

Mackenzie had her own reasons. She needed to talk to the man herself. Afterall, a man who could win the loyality of an entire army couldn’t be completely heartless.

And deep down, she trusted her instincts. If he really was the beggar from the past… then he might still have some goodness left in him.
