Mistaken Match: Marrying the Enigmatic CEO
Chapter 2059; Hank Sheridan’s Demise
“Manny why did you scare her like that?” Roselynn couldn’t help but tease her brother as she approached Whispering Wanda with a friendly smile. “You’re the shop owner next door, right ? I look forward to working alongside you in the future!”
“Uh, Working together… right, well, goodbye!” Whispering Wanda, still shaken, quickly scurried away. As soon as she left the mall, her gossip began. She told anyone who would listen about how terrifying Emmanuel was, claiming his malice was palpable and that he was probably out for blood. She even suggested that his sister might be just as dangerous, warning that two siblings were definitely not people to be trifled with.
Meanwhile, Hank, having left Empire Heights Mall with Violet, finally exhaled a long sigh of relief. His face immediately darkened as he returned to scold his fiance. “Violet, you nearly got me killed! How could you have provoked someone like that?”
Violet was still confused. Everywhere they went, her fiance had always been a formidable force in Zovince, crushing anyone who dared cross him. Yet the moment he encountered that man, he had acted like a mouse facing a lion. She couldn’t help ask, “Darling, who exactly were those two? What’s their story?”
Looking around to make sure they were alone in the alley behind the mall, Hank lowered his voice. “That man is Emmanuel Lowe. You might not recognize his name, but do you who the martial world considers the strongest right now?”
“Of course I do!” Violet replied confidently, As his fiance, she was well-versed in martial circles and had used Hank’s name to intimidate people many times. She knew very few people could match her husband’s strength. “The strongest is obviously Mr. Gwain Lannister. After him, it’s you and Wyatt! You’re practically the second most powerful!”
“Good grief!” Hank’s face twisted into a frown, “You actually believed the nonsense I was feeding you? I’ve always told you there’s someone stronger than me, and I’ve only ever bragged about being third!”
“Hmph, you’ve always said Gwain was stronger, and there’s that Northern Wolf warrior whos as famous as him, but you always said no one knows just how powerful he is. That puts you right below them, right?”
“Exactly!” Hank exclaimed, shaking his head in exasperation. “I’ve never claimed to be the second strongest, there’s always been someone above me!”
“Wait, hold on!” Violet’s expression shifted as realization dawned on her. “Are you saying that man back there is the Northern Wolf Warrior? The War God of Chanaea?!”
Now that she understood, sweat began to pour from Violet’s forehead, and her body trembled in fear.
“Now you understand?” Hank said, equally agitated. “It’s not that I’m weak, It’s that he’s too strong! You were lucky he’s been in a good mood lately. Otherwise, we’d both be dead by now! You have no idea how many people that man killed in Eldoria!”
The more Violet listened, the more frightened she become. Her hands and legs began to tremble uncontrollably, and she nodded frantically. “How was I supposed to know that I’d run into the Northern Region War God while just trying to bully someone? We need to leave now before he decides to finish us off in private!”
“Haha, that’s not his style,” Hank said, still a little shaken but trying to reassure her. “Emmanuel’s not the type to sneak around. If he wanted to kill me, he wouldn’t have hesitated. After all, he wiped out so many people back in Eldoria in one fell swoop.”
“Even so.. let’s just get out of here, darling.” Violet insisted, still not convinced. She wasn’t familiar with Emmanuel like Hank was, and the fear of him coming back for them weighed heavily on her. She just wanted to get as far away as possible, as fast as they could.
“You’re such a coward! You go on ahead. I need to get back to the Lannister Estate.” Hank said, dismissing his fiance. He had more pressing matters to attend to. After all, he and Wyatt had a bet going to see who could find Roselynn first. Hank had only come to Empire Heights Mall to handle Violet’s problem, worried that Wyatt might beat him to the punch and report it to Gwain. But to his surprise, he had stumbled upon Roselynn himself, giving him to upper hand. Now, he couldn’t wait to get back and mock Wyatt for his inefficiency.
Smiling to himself at the thought. Hank drove down a small road, only to suddenly find himself blocked by several cars, one in front and one behind.
“What the hell is this? You’ve got to be kidding me!” Hank wasn’t the least bit scared. He stepped out of the car, yelling, “Who the hell do you think you are, blocking my way?”
Having spent so much time under Gwain’s protection, Hank had gotten used to acting with impunity in Zovince. If this were Eldoria, he might hold back a little, but here in Zovince, under the Lannister family’s influence, he believed no one would dare cross him. He even thought these people had mistaken him for someone else.
“You’re precisely the arrogant b*stard we’re after, and you’re going to die for messing with Ms. Roselynn!” a man in black shouted, making sure his voice carried.
Hank was taken aback, narrowly dodging the man’s first strike. This guy’s skilled! he though, realizing the danger. Worse still, it wasn’t just one attacker, these people had come prepared, and there were multiple skilled fighters among them. Every time Hank dodged a lethal blow, another assailant attacked from a different angle. Even a tiger couldn’t fend off a pack of wolves, and these people were using every dirty trick in the book, clearly intent on killing him.
The fight dragged on, with Hank desperately trying to break through their encirclement. Just as he attempted to force his way out, as unseen projectile hit his leg, crippling him.
“Ahhh!” Hank screamed in agony. The group of attackers quickly swarmed him, beating him until he was left for dead in the street. Soon after, one of the men in black approached a black car parked at the end of the alley and reported in a low voice. “Mr. Verkade, the job is done.”
Gautier nodded indifferently and gave his orders. “Clean up the scene. Have the strongest among you deliver the final blow, and then make sure news gets to the Lannister family quickly.”
“Yes, sir!” The man in black responded promptly before carrying out the task. Gautier, meanwhile, quietly left the scene.
Back at the Lannister Estate, Wyatt had been searching all day for clues about Roselynn’s whereabouts. He had learned that she was in Zovince but hadn’t yet pinpointed her exact location. Deciding to regroup, he returned to the estate, figuring he would have more luck finding her the next day. After all Zovince was Lannister territory, Roselynn couldn’t evade them for long.
“Where’s Hank?” Wyatt asked as he arrived at the main house, planning to check in on his rival. “Hank hasn’t returned yet, sir” a maid informed him.
“Seriously? He’s been out all day messing around with women and still isn’t back? What about Mr. Gwain?” Wyatt muttered, his irritation growing. He had half a mind so go tattle on Hank. Even though Hank was a first class martial servant in the Lannister family, he was still just a servant. Skipping out on important duties to handle personnel affair? Unacceptable!
Before Wyatt could locate Gwain, a servant came rushing toward him, visibly panicked. “Mr. Wyatt, terrible news!”
“What’s with the panic?” Wyatt scolded the servant, displeased by the lack of decorum. The Lannister family prided itself on maintaining composure and grace, even among their servants. Displaying suck frantic behavior was a disgrace.
“It’s Hank… he’s dead! He was beaten to death!” the servant blurted out, leaving Wyatt stunned. He nearly jumped out of his skin in shock.
Grabbing the servant by the collar, Wyatt shock him violently. “What did you just say? You better not be lying, or I’ll kill you myself!”
