Chapter 2048; Magnus the Genius

“Yes, Colin Tanner,” Xylle said softly, her head lowered, her eyes glimmering with a touch of sadness.

“After we returned from Yeternia, the Tanner family took me back to Zovince. That’s when I met my uncle, Teddy. He was very kind to me, always wearing a gentle smile. It was he who told me that I was the daughter of his late brother, Colin.”

Emmanuel didn’t interrupt her story, even though he didn’t believe Teddy was as benevolent as he appeared. He just wanted to hear the full story first.

“Twenty years ago, there was a tragedy within the Tanner family,” Xylie continued. “My father was killed under mysterious circumstances, but before his death, he made arrangements to have me taken far away from Zovince to Nuthana to escape our family’s enemies. Uncle Teddy later took control of the Tanner family, avenged my father, and spent years trying to find me so that I could come back and live a good life, the life my father would have wanted for me.” She finished the story, though it was clear she didn’t know all the details.

Emmanuel didn’t press her for more but instead asked, “Have you heard that Teddy might have killed your father to take control of the family’s vast empire?”

Xylie nodded slightly. “I’m not completely naive. Since returning to Zovince, I haven’t had to go to school or work, and though I’ve been watched most of the time, I’ve managed to learn a lot about the Tanner family.

I’ve heard whispers of what you just said, but I’ve kept my own opinion. Uncle Teddy has shown photos and records, proving that he and my father had a close relationship. He’s always been so kind to me that I find it hard to believe those rumors.”

Emmanuel didn’t push the issue further. After all, there was never any solid. evidence of Teddy killing his brother. Even if there had been whispers back then, no one had ever produced real proof.

“Is that what you wanted to tell me, Emmanuel?” Xylie asked, her curiosity piqued. “Why are you in Zovince?” Women, even shy and reserved ones, were always curious about the men they admired, and Xylie was no different.

“One of the main reasons I’m here is to deal with Teddy Tanner,” Emmanuel replied, not hiding his intentions.

“What?” Xylie’s eyes widened in shock.

“Yes, I don’t believe Teddy is a good man, and we have a deeper grudge. Specking of which, I don’t want you to marry Nathan now, Do you even want to?

Xylie smiled slightly, before answered. You said it yourself that you don’t want me to marry Nathen, so why would I still be thinking about it?”

Forget my opinion for a moment. What do you want?” Emmanuel looked at her seriously.

I don’t know,” Xylie said, shaking her head, her heart inexplicably racing. The truth was, the man she wanted to marry was standing right in front of her, but he was already married. It was an impossible dream. So, in her mind, it didn’t really matter whom she married.

Nathan wasn’t a bad person. Yes, he had a wandering eye, but his character wasn’t terrible, and he wasn’t unattractive. She didn’t really mind the idea of marrying him. But now, with Emmanuel’s disapproval, she didn’t know how to respond.

Emmanuel found himself at a loss for words. Like most men, he wasn’t sure how to handle it when a woman said, “I don’t know.”

“This engagement… it didn’t originally belong to me,” Xylie finally answered Emmanuel’s first question. “The Chapman and Tanner families had been planning a partnership for a while, but Yuna looked down on Nathan. She didn’t think he was someone capable of great things or becoming a hero, so she refused to marry him. That’s how the engagement fell to me.” so that’s how it is…” Emmanuel nodded, confirming his earlier suspicions. Xylie’s answer fit perfectly with what he had already guessed.

“Emmanuel, after talking with you today, I’ll definitely keep a closer eye on my uncle Teddy. If he really is a bad person, I promise I won’t help him,” Xylie said, offering her assurance.

“Thank you, Xylie,” Emmanuel smiled gratefully. “But when it comes to your marriage, I still hope you can make your own decision. I wish for you to marry the man you truly love and find happiness.”

“Mm…” Xylie nodded, then lowered her head shyly, her eyes stealing a glance at Emmanuel, a soft sigh echoing in her heart. Will I ever be able to marry the man I truly love?

After their conversation, Emmanuel prepared to leave the Chapman family’s hospital. As for the marriage between Nathan and Xylie, he had made his stance clear. Whether or not the two families went through with it was up to them. If the alliance between the Chapman and Tanner families succeeded, he would be unable to stop Catherine from becoming president. In that case, his only remaining option would be to assassinate Teddy, avenging his fallen comrades from the Wolf Warrior Unit.

Ashton seemed to still be with Nathan, so Emmanuel left the private hospital alone. He intended to head back and video chat with his wife to check in on the situation in the West End, but along the way, a black car suddenly blocked his path. Emmanuel frowned. Even Levi wouldn’t dare stop him, so who could it be?

Moreover, the person seemed to have anticipated his route, intercepting him on a nearly deserted road. Whoever it was, they were bound to be troublesome.

When the car window rolled down, and he saw the familiar eyes of the person inside, Emmanuel’s expression relaxed into a knowing smile. Suddenly, it all made sense.

“Well, if it isn’t the genius strategist? What’s up?”

“I’ve come to give you some information I know you want Magnus adjusted his glasses with a confident grin.

“Is that so? Now you’ve got me curious. What is this information you think I want?” Emmanuel’s curiosity was piqued.

He knew all too well the capabilities of Magnus, whose intellect and strategies had nearly cost him his life on multiple occasions.

The one who ordered the assassination of Nathan is Maxwell. Magnus said, tossing a phone to Emanuel. Inside videos from the Hunter’s Den, information even the solicits hands on.

Magnus pushed his glasses up again, a smug smile playing his lips “Although there’s no direct proof it was Maxwell, He traced the armor-piercing rounds used in the attack, Chiore Lannister acquired those specific bullets. Through a process of elimination, no other players within have had access to that type of ammunition, so it’s clear Maxwell and Chiens were behind it.”

As Emmanuel watched the videos and reviewed the data Magnus had provided, his expression become serious. Magnus had achieved the conclusion to put together, he Isn’t just a hacking genius, he clearly had access to outstanding information network.

Though Emmanuel had suspected Maxwell’s involvement in the attack at the Hunter’s Den, only Magnus could have pieced everything together so perfectly. It was no small feat to navigate Maxwell’s intricate plans and retrieve the surveillance footage without detection. This was the work of a true mastermind.
