Mistaken Match: Marrying the Enigmatic CEO

Tears of Sorrow, Tears of Joy

Mackenzie’s voice was steady and reassuring as she continued speaking.

Emmanuel, his face etched with concern, quickly asked, “Where are my sister and Julian right now?”

“After the Quillen family tragedy, Ashton took them away from Nuthana to Eldoria in Zovince, to lay low for a while. But we’ve had no contact with them since,” she sighed softly, a mix of relief and lingering worry. “As for Tia, she’s safe with my mother. It’s a blessing to know they’re both alive and well.”

Emmanuel nodded, feeling a momentary lightness in his chest. It wasn’t much, but it was something to hold onto in these dark times.

As they talked, Mackenzie finished styling Emmanuel’s hair. She had given him a sharp, side–parted cut that was clean and precise. The new look accentuated his striking features, making him look more mature and formidable.

“Well, what do you think?” she asked, a genuine smile playing on her lips. There was a hint of pride in her voice as she awaited his reaction.

Emmanuel stood, taking her hand in his. His eyes were warm as he gazed at her. “I love it. Who would’ve thought my wife had such hidden talents?”

Mackenzie chuckled, leaning against him, “What did you expect? That I was completely clueless?” Her eyes twinkled with amusement as she continued, “I never imaged I’d marry a commander. Looking at you now, who would ever guess you were once a gynecologist who couldn’t even land a date?”

Emmanuel Joined in her laughter, savoring this brief moment of warmth amidst their challenging circumstances. The next morning, as the sun began to paint the sky in hues of pink and gold, Felicity and Tia arrived at Eastern Star Mountain.

Tia couldn’t help but be struck anew by Emmanuel’s appearance. He seemed to have grown even more handsome, exuding a newfound masculinity that made her heart skip a beat. However, she quickly pushed those thoughts aside, knowing that such a remarkable man was forever beyond her reach.

“Mackenzie, thank God you’re back!” Felicity’s voice cracked with emotion as she spotted her daughter, tears welling in her eyes.

“Mother!” Mackenzie called out, the word coming naturally to her lips. They had no blood relation, but she had come to cherish their bond.

“Where’s Sarah? Did she not return with you?” Felicity asked anxiously. The worry on her face made it clearr that Sarah was her main concern.

“Mackenzie exchanged a solemn look with Emmanuel before turning back to Felicity, her voice gentle but firm. “Promise me you’ll be strong, and then I’LL tell you where Sarah is.”

Felicity froze, a terrible sense of foreboding creeping into her heart. She had weathered the tragedy for the Quillen family, but if something had happened to Sarah, she wasn’t sure how she would cope.

“Mackenzie, please just tell me!” Felicity pleaded, her voice thick with desperation. “I can handle it, whatever it is.”

With a heavy sigh, Mackenzie stepped aside for Emmanuel to speak. His voice was low and filled with regret as he spoke, “Sarah sacrificed herself to save us on the Dark Night Islands. We brought her body back so you can see her one last time before we lay her to rest alongside my mother.”

Alessandra’s body had already been taken back to Hero’s Village by Shane and Frederick. Emmanuel planned to deal with urgent matters, find his sister and then return together to pay respects to his mother.

The news hit Felicity like a physical blow. She tried to hold back her sobs, but they came unbidden, shaking her entire body.

Before anyone could offer comfort, the door burst open, revealing a striking woman with tear–stained cheeks. It was Laura, with a shy young woman trailing behind her–Elizabeth, who met Emmanuel’s eyes with a shy gaze.

“What about Claudette?” Laura demanded, her voice raw with emotion. “What happened to my Claudette?”

The Quillen family’s tragedy had drawn them close to Felicity, and as soon as they heard Emmanuel was back, they followed her to Eastern Star Mountain.

Emmanuel hadn’t expected these unexpected guests, but he understood their concern. Although Laura was originally from the Verkade family, her marriage to the Lenoir family made her one of them. It wouldn’t be fair to hold her responsible for William’s actions.

“Claudette is alive,” Emmanuel said quickly, “She hasn’t regained consciousness yet. Come, I’ll take you to see her,” he offered before they could even ask, eager to ease their pain as much as he could.

Laura’s reaction was the opposite of Felicity’s, but her tears flowed just as freely. Although she wasn’t Claudette’s biological mother, their bond was as deep as any between mother and daughter. The mere fact that her daughter had survived such dire circumstances was nothing short of a miracle.

As they entered Claudette’s room, Laura rushed to her side, enveloping her in a tight embrace. “Claudette, my darling, I’ve missed you so much!”

Then, something miraculous happened. Claudette, who had been unresponsive for so long, shuddered ever so slightly, and her eyes started to glisten with unshed tears.
