Facing Xan’s ultimate moves earlier was no pressure to Paul, but right now his forehead was beaded with sweat in the fight against Scarlet.
Scarlet sneered. “You don’t need to guard that stupid machine. I have no interest in it!”
Paul paced himself quickly. He knew that he still needed to protect the machine because if he didn’t, the only consequence he would face was death!
Boom!
Scarlet’s first slash instantly destroyed the equipment controlling the dock gates. However, Paul was lucky enough to dodge it, but it definitely caused him to break out in cold sweat!
“I never doubted you as the renowned Lady Scarlet and truly admire your abilities. Now that the machine is wrecked, there is no need for us to fight on.
So, stand down!” Paul was persistent in stopping the battle.
Scarlet merely taunted him. “The so–called ‘Shoiya’s Top Warrior‘, is this all you’ve got?”
“What do you mean?” Paul’s eyes blazed with fury.
“Did you misunderstand me? I’m not here to help the Alliance Forces. I merely wanted to test your abilities. I aim to find the most suitable man who can withstand my fourth slash! Now that we have battled it out, it’s evident that you’re just trash!” Scarlet humiliated Paul casually with her explanation.
Paul was so furious that he looked at Scarlet with loathing eyes.
“Scarlet! I’ll give you three seconds. If you don’t apologize to me right now, I will make you regret your own words!”
“Oh, really?”
Seeing his belligerence boiling within him, Scarlet became much more enthusiastic about fighting him. She pulled her whip with force and said, “The way you look right now gives you further validation to die under my second slash!”
Paul refused to back down and be intimidated by her words. With his gaze sharper and void of all mercy, he flashed his sword in front of him.
“I rarely strike women with my katana, especially since arriving at the Dark Night Islands. You will be the first to die under this blade!!”
“Is that so? Guess I gotta really hope to die! Hehe…” Scarlet laughed casually while her whip slowly burst into flames.
The second whip, Inferno Hell!
For a moment, the long whip looked like a venomous viper spitting out seeds of fire, trying to land a bite on Paul.
Paul also roared with anger, his katana flashed like lightning striking in the sky. The showdown between the highest–ranking warriors even made the windows and walls gradually collapse! In time, their surroundings turned into ashes of destruction!
Clang!
Debris fell from the ceiling and the base began to tremor. “Rhett, look at the third floor!” Just as Rhett was about to pass down the order to attack, Falcon exclaimed while pointing upwards.
Rhett had already sensed the auras of the two powerhouses. He smiled coldly and said, “It’s out of our hands now. Let’s reform and head to the southern dockyard!”
“Huh? But-‘
“The button hasn’t been pressed yet, right?”
“If we head to the docks now, can we even board the ship?” Many people were puzzled by his decision. Falcon also staggered at Rhett’s words. But he quickly pulled himself together and nudged his partner.
“Enough nonsense! If Rhett says it’s out of our hands, that means the button has been pressed. So, let’s go with a peace of mind!”
However, there were still people who were oblivious to the truth shouting,
“Xan won!”
“He activated the dock button!”
“Victory!”
“We can finally leave this hellhole!”
Rhett listened to them without bothering to correct their statements and just gave a small smile. He waited for the main army to leave and at the last moment, he rode his horse to the bottom of the only window on the third floor.
Swoosh!
Sure enough, there was a victim covered in bloodstains being thrown out of the window!
Rhett quickly reached out and caught the victim. It was a blood–covered Xan, evidently not in a victorious state.
“Rhett, I have failed! I have disgraced the Ophanim Clan!” Xan looked at him, guilt–ridden.
Rhett felt that something was amiss and immediately comforted him. “You’re wrong. The mission was completed. Do not drown yourself in guilt! The Alliance forces will definitely clinch the final victory!”
“No, I am a failure!” Xan shook his head, his eyes devoid of any will to survive.
He had come to the Dark Night Islands with the mission to assassinate all high–ranking assignments. However, he ended up staying longer than he expected. Moreover, he was utterly defeated at the hands of Paul North. What gave him the right to return home? And how was he going to face the stares of others?
