Mistaken Match: Marrying the Enigmatic CEO
Chapter 2395; Enter the Temple!
Emmanuel took a moment to assess the current situation.
He knew that a squad to the south had definitely engaged with Solaris Island’s forces, but their objective was right in front of him, there was no turning back for reinforcements now. He couldn’t repeat the mistakes of the past. The fate of Chanaea was at stake. He had to prioritize the bigger picture and destroy the enemy base before anything else.
“Don’t use the existing paths. We’re climbing over the ridge and infiltrating the military fortress from above.” He ordered immediately.
On the other side, Xarri had adopted the same tactical approach as Emmanuel. And because of the terrain, his team had actually reached the military compound a step earlier.
“What the hell? This place is completely empty?”
Quintus was stunned. They had moved cautiously and quietly the whole way in – only to find not a single guard along the route. They entered the building without the slightest resistance.
Once inside, they finally saw people.
They were all dressed in white robes, moving with a solemn, ritualistic grace like priests attending to a god.
“This must be the place,” Xarri whispered as he learned against a wall. “Destroy this stie, and Eagle Nation’s years of scheming fall apart. With this threat gone, Chanaea can finally face Eagle Nation head-on.”
The others nodded silently.
Global power had clearly shifted from West to East. As long as they met on equal footing, Chanaea defeating Eagle Nation was only a matter of time.
Just then, a loud commotion erupted at the temple’s entrance.
Orunis, clad in his gray robe, returned with a full squad and several prisoners.
“Holy f*ck! Yorick’s been captured too!”
Quintus couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
He had never witnessed Yorick’s strength firsthand, but he had seen the Silver Dragon Spear Saint destroy the entire Five Poison Sect single handedly. Yorick was just as legendary. Yet now, both he and the Matriarch had been taken down together. The blow to Quintus’ morale was immeasurable.
Xarri immediately pressed a finger to his lips, signaling him to stay silent.
Orunis entered the temple, and once inside, let out a booming laugh. “Hahaha! Your Holiness, since you’ve graced us with your presence, why not show yourself? Allow me the honor of a proper welcome!”
His voice echoed through the entire military temple, and Xarri and Quintus both stiffened instinctively.
Mackenzie, who had flinched slightly. She still couldn’t remember who she really was, but she had the odd feeling that she might be the heroine of this whole story.
“What now? Quintus whispered.
Xarri considered it for a moment before answering directly. “At this point, there’s only one thing to do.”
Quintus immediately got the message and road, “Then, we f*cking fight!”
“Destroy everything! No matter the cost!” Xarri barked his orders.
“Charge!”
The Wolf Warrior Unit had never known fear. Even though they were deep inside enemy territory, even knowing how unfathomably strong enemy was, even without weapons in hand, they split up and began destroying the temple without hesitation.
But before they could do much damage, the white robed priests surged out from every direction inside the temple.
A brutal battle erupted once more.
There was no time to rest. No even a breath between clashes.
“Your Holiness, please step inside. I await you within the temple,” Orunis called out again. A final show of courtesy to the Saintess.
Xarri hesitated briefly but ultimately chose to escort Mackenzie alongside Quintus into the temple.
Unnoticed, Yosef, still unguarded, followed them from a distance, staying hidden in the shadows.
“Great Saintess?!”
Mackenzie was the first to step into the temple. The moment she entered, she spotted a familiar face and cried out in shock.
The Great Saintess lay unconscious, sealed inside a strange glass container that radiated a glowing light, like sunlight trapped in crystal.
Her gaze quickly swept across the room, and what she saw next made her gasp again.
There were four more containers around the chamber. Inside them were women whose faces tired something deep in her memory, especially the last two: Sarah Quillen and Claudette Lenoir.
Their faces struck Mackenzie’s heart like a jolt of lightning.
“You b*stards!”
Quintus lost control entirely. One of them was his sister. The other, a women who had already been laid to rest. He couldn’t believe anyone would commit something so inhuman.
Quintus lunged at Orunis in a frenzy, intent on killing him. Meanwhile, Xarri stayed calm, his eyes sweeping the room to assess the situation.
The other two women inside the containers were Yuna and Xylie Tanner.
Xarri had known Claudette was a Sun Stone vessel since his days on the Dark Night Islands. But he hadn’t expected the Tanner sisters to be involved as well. Upon closer analysis, he realized the common link they were all connected to Jane. Her father had once worked for the Eagle Intelligence Bureau. Perhaps these vessels had been cultivated long ago, years in advance.
Unlike Quintus, Xarri remained composed. Sarah had clearly died back on the Dark Night Islands, so why is her body still perfectly preserved? All life depends on sunlight. Could it be connected to the Sun Stones’ power?
Bam!
Quintus had tried to take Orunis head-on, but the outcome was no surprise. He was swiftly knocked back, crashing into a stone wall. For a moment, he struggled to stand again.
“Your Holiness,” Orunis said with smug satisfaction, motioning toward a special chamber at the back of the temple. “You’re the final piece in our grand design. Everything has been prepared for you. Once you step into that room, you’ll absorb the power of the temple’s Sun Stones… and you too will prosses divine strength.”
“Bullsh*t! Quintus roared in defiance, blood on his lips as he shouted to Mackenziie. “Mackenzie, don’t believe a d*mn word he says! Get out of here!”
Xarri cursed himself silently, he shouldn’t have brought Mackenzie to this place.
He didn’t know exactly what lay within that chamber, but if Mackenzie went inside, she’d become the enemy’s energy source of that he was certain.
He could already sense it now. Above the temple, something terrifying was concealed. Not only that, but the woman inside the containers, including the Great Saintess were all continuously feeding energy into whatever was sealed above.
That had to be where the so-called god was imprisoned. And once that god awakened… the consequences would be catastrophic.
What now?
Even Xarri, sharp as he was, could see only one option. He shouted. “Quintus! Can you still fight? We have to defeat Orunis before Eagle Nation’s god wakes up! We must destroy this plan!”
“Hell yeah!” Quintus wiped the blood from his mouth, gritted his teeth, and pushed himself to his feet. “As long as I’m not dead, I can d*mn well still fight!”
“Then, let’s go!”
Xarri didn’t waste another word. Sword in hand, he charged straight at Orunis.
But no matter how refined his swordplay, Orunis seemed able to predict every move in advance, evading effortlessly.
Xarri had fought countless enemies and knew instantly, this wasn’t about familiarity with his technique. Orunis was analyzing in real time, calculating angles and responses like a living computer, forming immediate counter. Fighting someone like this was hopeless. It was no wonder even powerhouses like Yorick and Isabella had fallen before him.
Meanwhile, outside the temple, another group arrived.
Sage’s voice trembled with excitement. “Commander, someone else got here before us! They’re already fighting Eagle Nation inside!”
“Charge!”
Emmanuel needn’t say anymore.
They had reached the final destination, and there was only one course of action left, war.
