Dragon Raja 5; Chapter 51: Whale Song (20)

Dragon Raja 5

It was a sunny afternoon, perfect weather for a picnic. A white dining table covered with a linen tablecloth was set up on the grass, and Caesar, Abbas, and Finger sat around it, drinking afternoon tea.

Caesar drank Irish coffee with whiskey, Abbas drank Ceylon black tea, and in front of Finger were cheesecake, chestnut cake, walnut brownie, toasted muffins, toasted croissants, toasted toast with foie gras, and pink and green macarons…

Finger buried his head in his food and devoured it, while Caesar and Abbas looked at the vast lake.

This was the best place on campus to have afternoon tea. The view is unobstructed. The sparkling lake at the foot of the mountain looks like the sea. The red pine forest rises and falls slowly in the wind, and the pine wind blows through the valleys.

In the past, if you wanted to set up a table for afternoon tea here, you had to make an appointment with the restaurant administrator, but now the entire campus is empty, not even a ghost can be seen, even if they want to hold a champagne party in the principal’s office, no one will care.

A month ago, with the global arrest order for Lu Mingfei and Nuonuo, the entire academy was emptied in an instant.

The elite members of the executive department and senior students were concentrated in branches across the country, on standby 24 hours a day. Professors who were able to fight also joined the hunt. Basic teaching could not be maintained, and lower-level students were temporarily sent home.

Caesar, Abbas and Finger were exceptions. They did not have to participate in the pursuit, nor could they leave the campus. Their instructions were to “stay where they are.”

In layman’s terms, it is called “sitting on the bench.” If an NBA player sits on the bench for a consecutive season, he will probably be sold at a low price next season.

“The reason why I was benched was obvious, but I didn’t expect Abdullah Abbas to sit with me,” Caesar said.

“I think the Elders are also wondering who I am?” Abbas shrugged. “In the world your fiancée knows, I don’t exist at all. My place belongs to a man named Chu Zihang. He is your friend.”

“It’s Lu Mingfei’s world,” Caesar corrected. “Nono has been influenced by him. What? Even you’re starting to doubt your own identity?”

“To be honest, I have doubted it. I even thought about it for several nights in a row. I thought about my childhood, where I came from, and wanted to find evidence of my existence.” Abbas smiled bitterly.

“Call your parents and your childhood friends.”

“I am an orphan and grew up in an orphanage. The orphanage has closed down and the director has passed away. The director herself is a lonely old woman. I have lost contact with all my childhood friends.”

“You look really suspicious.” Caesar said lightly.

“It sounds suspicious, but I have a good memory and remember things very clearly. I remember the kids I grew up with, the old dean who was so kind to me, and even the flavor of the shisha he smoked: orange and lemon with a hint of sour cherry,” Abbas said. “I also recall so many things, including the night we drank ouzo during a match in Istanbul until we both couldn’t get up. Could it all be fiction?”

“I still remember the taste of that anise liquor, it was so strong that it felt like my throat was cut.” Caesar smiled.

    ***

That was their first time working together on a mission, and it happened during their sophomore year. The academy, perhaps thinking of easing tensions between the two student groups, had sent the two presidents on a mission together.

As rookies tend to make mistakes, something went wrong during the mission. It didn’t matter what it was, as they both ended up kneeling face to face with large-caliber pistols pointed at their temples.

If it were them today, they would have many ways to escape even if a gun was pointed at their heads. However, at that time, both Caesar and Abbas’ combat skills and mastery of spiritual words were not as mature as they are today, and they did face the fate of having their heads explode and their brains flying everywhere.

The leader of the other party was running a shady business, selling dragon serum to certain organizations to create bloodthirsty warriors, which was why he got involved with the secret party. It was also because of this business that he had some understanding of the hybrids and was very happy to capture the heir of the Gattuso family.

He wanted to challenge the bottom line of the Gattuso family heir, so he gave the two young men a chance. A revolver that could hold six bullets was only loaded with one bullet. The two sides took turns shooting at each other. Whoever killed the other would survive.

To put it bluntly, it was a thrilling game of Russian roulette. The leader wanted to see whether Caesar could still maintain his noble demeanor in the face of death.

Caesar fired first. He raised his gun and looked at Abbas. He said, “If you die, I will avenge you. What do you think of killing all these guys?” The two looked at each other for a moment, and Abbas nodded in agreement. Caesar put his gun to Abbas’s left chest and shot him, not just once, but repeatedly.

The leader was surprised at first, then ecstatic. He felt he had seen through the bottom line of these mixed-blood nobles. What nonsense was the boasting and talk of justice? All that sanctimonious talk was fake! When faced with the choice between life and death, Caesar actually wanted to kill his comrades in exchange for his own life.
