“Actually, I’m a little unhappy with you, but I didn’t wanted to say it before.” Crow drank beer.

They were at a small restaurant that serves robatayaki. There was a fire in the middle of the grill, and beef, fresh fish and vegetables are stuck on bamboo sticks next to it. The warm breeze and the aroma of food hit you in the face.

The good place that Crow mentioned turned out to be this inconspicuous little shop, but the food was really good.

“Why?” Lu Mingfei burped.

“How could you possibly be worthy of the young lady? We all thought she was a princess, but she fell for a toad,” the crow said. “She put all her trust in you, but you didn’t help her at all. You were her knight, but when she needed you, you cowered like a dog.”

“Yeah.” Lu Mingfei nodded.

“Afterwards, we obtained your communication records with her from Line’s server. She had been contacting you before she died. You were the one with the best chance of saving her, but you wasted a lot of time in the sake cellar in Takamagahara.”

“Yeah.” Lu Mingfei nodded in acknowledgment.

Drunk, Crow slammed his beer glass down on the table. Suddenly, his face turned fierce and his voice became stern. “Can you only say ‘hmm’? Can you speak like a man? She trusts you so much, trusts a man who is useless at the critical moment! A man who can only say ‘hmm’ with his head down!”

This time Lu Mingfei just remained silent.

The crow roared a few times, venting its anger before quieting down again, transforming into the majestic Saeki Ryuji once again. His voice was gentle and low, “I’m a street thug, and so was my father. He beat up everyone. But when I was little, my father taught me to protect girls, because girls will be mothers in the future, they can give birth to children and bring hope. So men can die heroically in battle, but they must protect girls. If a girl dies, the man who’s still alive will never forgive himself.”

After a pause, he continued, “Even if you didn’t like her that much, you could still take her away. She was pretty, wasn’t she? Take her to Korea, and feed her ice cream under that non-existent crabapple tree. Then take her wherever you want. After all, she likes you, and she would agree to whatever you want.”

“Stop talking.” Lu Mingfei sipped his beer. “But if this makes you happier, then keep talking. I’m listening.”

Crow was a little surprised by Lu Mingfei’s reaction and stared at him blankly for a few seconds, “You really are different from before.”

“People always have to grow up. There’s no point looking back at things that have already happened or people who are no longer with us. We can only make the present things better.”

The two men fell silent, watching the flames in the stove. The flames rose, and the fat from the fish dripped into the fire, crackling.

“I didn’t give the order to attack for two reasons,” Crow whispered. “First, you’re a big shot now, but the moment you saw the young lady, your eyes suddenly changed back to the little boy you were back then. So I think you’re still a human being, with some humanity, not the monster they say you are.”

“I’m a little happy to hear you say that, but monsters aren’t necessarily inhumane,” Lu Mingfei said. “What else?”

“I suddenly thought, even if you really are a monster, then what is she? If she’s my target, can I give the order to attack?” Crow sighed softly. “When I thought about it, my heart softened.”

Crow paused and took a sip of wine. “That girl is the legendary Chen Motong, right?”

“Boss Caesar’s fiancée looks a lot like Erii, right?”

“It’s hard to explain. The two people have completely different temperaments and can be told apart at a glance. But it’s amazing that they are not related by blood, but they look so similar, even sharing that weird hair color.” Crow paused, “That’s the person you really like, right?”

“Yes.” Lu Mingfei was surprised after he blurted out.

He had kept this secret in his heart for a long time, but he confessed it to Crow without hesitation. Perhaps it was because Crow was an outsider who had nothing to do with this relationship, and he had been looking for an outsider to confess it to.

“What does Caesar think?”

“He should know, but someone like me doesn’t pose much of a competition to him.”

“What do you want to do next? I can let you go, but more people will soon rush to Tokyo. Not everyone is as soft-hearted as I am, even your friends from back then.”

“I did come to Tokyo to ask for your help, but not to help me escape from the academy’s pursuit. I want you to help me find someone.” Lu Mingfei looked up at Crow and poured him a full glass of beer.

“Who?”

“Herzog.”

Although time has passed, when Crow heard the name, his pupils still contracted suddenly, revealing the fear that remained deep in his heart.

“Herzog is dead, deader than dead. We sent divers to Tokyo Bay and recovered some of his remains,” Crow said. “He was shattered to that extent. Do you think he can be resurrected?”

“I believe he’s dead. But I want to use the power of the Eight Snake Clans to carefully investigate this man’s past. Don’t you find it strange? A former Nazi scientist, a normal human with no bloodline, or a hybrid with extremely mediocre bloodline, yet he has such a deep understanding of the dragon race. He even knows the ultimate secret of the White King’s Sacred Remains. He understands the White King better than you, the descendants of the White King. Although he is dead, the mystery surrounding him has not been completely solved.” Lu Mingfei paused here, “Also, he may know my origins.”
