Dragon Raja 5; Chapter 400: For Your Majesty (215)

Dragon Raja 5

She spoke those words with such a calm yet proud tone, as if time had reversed and she had returned to her best years, so graceful and even arrogant. The cold and beautiful aura she exuded made people forget her age, making them feel that any man would fall in love with such a woman.

Everyone looked at Lu Lincheng, awaiting his command, but Lu Lincheng remained silent for a long time, it was rare to see him so hesitant. Time passed second by second, Lu Mingfei had already approached the interface, and the ghost was about to cross the River Styx.

“Winnie, don’t force me…” Lu Lincheng raised his head, his voice hoarse, and his eyes twitched slightly.

Just then, something heavy was placed on his shoulder, a deafening explosion rang out, and the flash of the gun illuminated his vision in a blinding white. Natasha had used his shoulder as a gun rest and fired at Giovanni.

Two seconds after the muzzle flash died down, Lu Lincheng’s vision returned. He watched as Giovanni fell, the bullet piercing her left chest. Even after being shot, she remained standing for a few seconds, not looking at the spurting blood, nor showing any surprise or anger. She silently watched Lu Lincheng with what seemed like a mocking smile.

The veil covering her head fluttered, and her long hair danced in the cold wind. Had that proud swan truly fell amidst the hunter’s gunshot? Was she dead? Or had it merely suffered a broken wing?

“Run it over!” Natasha said coldly.

Lu Lincheng’s eyes suddenly widened in fury. Never before had such a furious and ferocious expression appeared on this man’s face. He pulled out a pistol from his coat, swung it, and shattered Natasha’s head with a single shot. Then he kicked her body off the car.

Giovanni didn’t actually need to say those provocative things. Of course, he could have shot Natasha for Giovanni’s sake, but he hadn’t been pushed to that point yet.

He leaped off the roof of the car with the agility of a cheetah, grabbed the driver, jumped into the driver’s seat, and slammed on the gas, charging towards the pack of hellhounds.

The snowmobile he was riding in had the largest and thickest armor, and it was at the center of the convoy. If this vehicle moved, the formation of the snowmobiles would immediately collapse. The person in the passenger seat immediately rushed forward to grab the steering wheel, shouting, “Secretary-General Lu! Calm down!”

Lu Lincheng had no time to calm down, because he knew those hellhounds all too well. Once Giovanni fell, even with the fire wall created by the dragon’s breath, the hellhounds would think the danger had been eliminated. The pursuit team wouldn’t run over Giovanni, but the pack would pounce on her; they were too hungry to resist.

The pack approached Giovanni. The boldest of them, drawn by the scent of blood, cautiously sniffed at her, nudging her with their noses like puppies cuddling their sleeping owner. But once they confirmed Giovanni was incapacitated, their ferocity erupted, and they pounced, tearing at her mercilessly. Once the bloody feast began, all the hellhounds couldn’t resist. They surged forward like madmen, leaping onto Giovanni and tearing at each other for a share of the food. If it weren’t for the blazing wall of fire around them, Giovanni would have been torn to shreds in an instant.

Lu Lincheng suddenly released the accelerator again. He looked past the pack of dogs into the darkness ahead and shivered violently. At the edge of the darkness, the boy knelt blankly, his pupils reflecting the firelight left by the dragon’s breath bullet.

He was so dazed, yet so desperate. He still held the posture of lunging forward, his arms outstretched as if to catch the middle-aged woman who had fallen, but they were far, far away. He was too late. “Back up! Back up! Back up!” Lu Lincheng roared.

It was too late, because Lu Mingfei had already seen everything.

Lu Mingfei didn’t know why he came back. He believed in Giovanni and Lu Lincheng. He believed that his mother would be alright once his father arrived. He had already reached the edge of the frozen lake. He intuitively felt that as long as he crossed the snow-capped ridge, he would see the hovercraft that was anxiously searching for him.

But he suddenly stopped on the shore of the frozen lake. He remembered what Giovanni had said when they parted: “Run forward, don’t look back, absolutely don’t look back! Remember the 5000-meter race you participated in at the school sports meet? Run like that!”

***

Many years ago, at the school sports meet, he was forcibly assigned by the PE teacher to participate in the 5000-meter race. It could be seen as a punishment for his inattentiveness during PE class. He had always been a child who couldn’t handle long-distance running; running 1000 meters would leave him exhausted, his heart feeling like it was being torn apart. The other participants were all athletic students, all with a chance to compete for the championship, crossing the finish line amidst the cheers of the female students. But the most discussed topic about him was guessing how many laps Lu Mingfei would fall behind.

During that time, he felt inexplicably panicked, and even his usual thick-skinned demeanor began to crumble, which Giovanni noticed. Giovanni said, “It’s just running! Who’s afraid of who! Starting today, get up an hour earlier every day, and Mom will train with you!”

On the day of the competition, Giovanni took his hand and led him to the synthetic track, saying, “Mingfei, do you know? Human potential is enormous. A book said a mother lifted an overturned car with one hand because her child was underneath. That’s how it is; if you want to win, you will. All that talk about athletic specialties is nonsense! It’s just 5000 meters! You won’t die from running! Just run, don’t look at others, and more Importantly, don’t look back. Don’t even have a thought of turning back.” Just then, several athletic students walked by, one of them laughing loudly, “Lu Mingfei, your mom’s cheering you on! I didn’t know you were such a mama’s boy!”

Giovanni gave them a cold look, scaring the boys away with just her gaze. The boys went to find their respective coaches to warm up, and Giovanni patted Lu Mingfei on the shoulder, “Just beat yourself, that’s enough. Mom believes you won’t be last.”

That day, Lu Mingfei took his mother’s special training to the extreme. He was practically pushing the gifted students along. He gritted his teeth, puffed out his chest, and ran with an unorthodox and unattractive form, but he was incredibly fast. He came in last, but he wasn’t far behind the gifted students, let alone for a whole lap. Amidst the cheers of the entire school, the gifted students began to sprint, and he stumbled along, falling further and further behind.

Just then, Giovanni appeared at the finish line. As Lu Mingfei brushed past her, he wanted to turn around to look at her, but he heard his mother shout sternly, “Run forward! Don’t look back!”

That was his most shining moment before entering Cassel College. In front of the entire school, this coward started sprinting alongside the gifted students. Even the PE teacher who was punishing him was stunned, wondering if he had missed a genius. Lu Mingfei felt his vision narrowing, with nothing but the front, no up, down, left, or right. His heart pounded like a war drum, his steps were incredibly heavy yet his body was incredibly light. He twisted and turned, dashing past one gifted student after another. His spirit seemed to run faster than his body, so fast it felt like he could fly.
