Dragon Raja 5; Chapter 381: For Your Majesty (196)

Dragon Raja 5

He was thinking of that year at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, when Professor Guderian brought him a letter from his mother. In the letter, Giovanni simply wrote, “Mom loves you.” He was suddenly overwhelmed and cried like a fool in the women’s restroom.

After all these years, his mom was still just as domineering, and dad was still just as long-winded.

Lu Lincheng took a sip of vodka, put down his chopsticks, and stared into Lu Mingfei’s eyes. “Something extraordinary must have happened to you, granting you abilities far beyond your bloodline, similar to super evolution, but stronger. We don’t know the mechanism yet, but we have the world’s best expert team here, and we’ll find out eventually.”

“That’s all your father’s business. Right now, just eat well, rest well, and don’t think too much. The academy’s warrant is invalid here,” Giovanni said. “Even if it were Anjou, if your father forbids him from coming here, he can’t get in.”

Lu Lincheng nodded, tacitly agreeing with his wife’s statement.

“Dad, you’re at such a high level in the secret service?” Lu Mingfei was a little surprised.

“I don’t belong to your system, so the words of the board of directors and the council of elders don’t carry any weight with me,” Lu Lincheng said. “I don’t completely trust them either. Who knows if the influence of the shadowy monarchs has already infiltrated Cassel College?”

Lu Mingfei was horrified. He had always considered himself a monster, and that it was only natural for him to be wanted and ostracized, so he had never doubted the academy’s stance. But if there really were such things as Dark Lords in the world, then they could impersonate anyone.

“Come on, tell Mom about all these years. How have you been? Do you have a girlfriend? How many have you had?” Giovanni changed the subject, finally relieving his parents from arguing. Lu Lincheng’s ears perked up at the mention of this.

The family happily finished the guinea fowl and drank a whole bottle of vodka. As they ate and drank tea, Lu Mingfei suddenly thought of something: “Is there a port nearby?”

Lu Lincheng was taken aback. “Black Swan Port? You know that port?”

Lu Mingfei shook his head. “A friend said that my destination should be at port. This is the first time I’ve heard of the name Black Swan Port.”

“It was a very mysterious port, still a mystery to this day. It should have been on the Arctic Ocean coast, not far from Verkhoyansk, but not here. It was destroyed in an accident in 1992. We investigated it, but have not found any trace of it to this day.”

“What is the port used for?” Lu Mingfei asked again.

Lu Lincheng knew about that port and was looking for it, so it was obviously of extraordinary importance.

“Nobody knows, and there’s no record of it, but when that port was destroyed, something at the Dragon King level might have escaped from it.” Lu Lincheng’s expression was solemn.

After a moment of silence at the table, Lu Mingfei continued, “There are at least two groups of people who want to send me there, probably hoping to find you through me.”

He thought Lu Lincheng would be nervous, but his father just shrugged. “They can’t find me. Only people with the mark can enter here. You are my son, born with the mark. Those are not my sons.” Lu Mingfei was taken aback. “We’re in the Nibelungen?”

“The blizzard is the boundary between this place and the outside world. People without the mark can’t pass through the blizzard.” Lu Lincheng smiled smugly. “That’s all for today. Go to bed early. You still have a lot to see.”

Lu Mingfei lay on the comfortable single bed, with dry and soft linen sheets beneath him, while outside, the wind and snow howled.

After not seeing him for many years, in Giovanni’s mind he was probably still a middle school student. Giovanni watched him fall asleep, covered him with a blanket, turned on the night light by the bedside, and told him to knock on the door next door if he needed anything. Before leaving, she kissed his forehead and said, “Sleep well, baby,” which made Lu Mingfei a little embarrassed.

This was the most comfortable night’s sleep he’d had in a long time, the only exception being the sleep he had in his dream. But dreams are unreal; the home beside him was real. All the hardships along the way had been worth it; he was no longer a lost and bewildered stray dog. long, it was good to rest. His only worry was Zero and Bunin, trudging through the blizzard, but those two were physically strong, and the sled had enough supplies, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

The person, slightly excited from the alcohol, tossed and turned, unable to sleep. He vaguely heard a rumbling sound, but instead of being annoyed, he felt a sense of peace. This haven was a massive mechanical system, currently humming and operating, creating a safe haven in the icy wilderness.
Here, he was like a prince, and no one could harm him.

After drinking, Lu Lincheng boasted that he was in charge here, and that Lu Mingfei was his only son; anyone who messed with Lu Mingfei was messing with him, Secretary-General Lu. Giovanni scoffed, saying, “You’re just a gofer for the committee, bragging like this in front of your son.” Lu Lincheng chuckled, “Without me, those old guys on the committee wouldn’t be able to get by!” Giovanni pressed her advantage, saying, “You said it yourself! Tomorrow, when Mingfei meets with the committee, if they don’t agree to let Mingfei stay, believe me, I’ll smash this wardrobe in your face!” Lu Lincheng patted his chest, “Leave it to me! I dare to call my son; so I can handle everything!”

This was what life is all about, isn’t it? Everyone else has parents, and so do I! Back in Shilan Middle School, a classmate’s parents went to the homeroom teacher to complain about Lu Mingfei, saying he was slacking off while cleaning and dumping all the work on their son. At that time, his aunt didn’t like him, and after apologizing to the teacher on the phone, she gave Lu Mingfei a thorough dressing-down. But with Giovanni around, it’s a different story. Giovanni’s imposing presence would definitely make the homeroom teacher and the other parent look utterly humiliated!

As he flipped through the pages, he got sleepy, his eyelids drooping, when suddenly he heard someone knocking on the windowpane.

At first, he thought he had misheard, but after a while, the glass rattled again, and Lu Mingfei sat up, propping himself up on his arms. His bed was right under the window, so he didn’t need to get up. He pulled back the blinds, and a layer of snowflakes covered the glass. Standing outside was a girl of about eleven or twelve, thin and small, seemingly malnourished, except for her long, pale golden hair streaked with snowflakes, which was as beautiful as silk. She was tapping on the windowpane and calling out to Lu Mingfei.

The windows here were double-glazed and insulated, so Lu Mingfei couldn’t understand what she was saying at all. It sounded like Russian, and he couldn’t make out her lip movements. Lu Mingfei simply wrapped a blanket around himself and rolled up the window.

The wind whipped up the fine snow, instantly covering the bed, and Lu Mingfei shivered violently. He then remembered that he lived on the third floor and didn’t have a balcony or anything like that.

The girl who had been calling out vanished like a ghost, leaving only the soft, continuous snowflakes in the dim light.
