“Oh, oh,” Chu Zihang said, perhaps remembering something, or perhaps just responding. “I work at a fund upstairs, Lu Mingfei, right? What a coincidence.”

“I just graduated from university and I’m still unemployed at home. I came to the city today to meet a friend for dinner.” Lu Mingfei grabbed Chu Zihang’s hand. “You’re my idol.”

“Unfortunately, there’s a meeting upstairs for me today…”

“I understand, I understand, you guys are very busy with work.” Lu Mingfei immediately let go of his hand.” Then you go ahead and get busy.”

Chu Zihang showed a hint of apology, “I’m sorry, this is my phone number XXX. I’ll contact you when I have time.”

“I’ll write it down and contact you when I have time.” Lu Mingfei tapped a few times on his phone, and Chu Zihang had already quickly passed through the turnstile.

“Senior! How’s work going?” Lu Mingfei suddenly shouted. He didn’t have a card and couldn’t get through the turnstile.

“Great! Keep in touch when you have time!” Chu Zihang strode into the elevator, the doors closed, and he led the elites straight to the upper floors.

Lu Mingfei looked down at the phone number on the screen and deleted the numbers one by one.

He went to the wrong entrance and unexpectedly ran into Chu Zihang. He was ten minutes late, and Nuonuo was already getting impatient. As soon as Lu Mingfei sat down, he apologized.

Nono watched him apologize with a cold eye, arms crossed, not even bothering to take off her sunglasses. She was without makeup, but still a striking girl in the crowd. Her clothes were casual but trendy: a white T-shirt with rhinestones, a black tulle skirt with irregular hemlines, and a pair of white platform sneakers.

Her clothes were casual, but the small bag she carried was an Hermès, seemingly tossed casually beside her. His father’s description of her as a bitch wasn’t entirely accurate; this girl was indeed on the path to becoming one, but she still possessed a haughty, girlish air.

Lu Mingfei looked her up and down, his gaze finally settling on the four-leaf clover earrings on her ears. He couldn’t tell the brand, and they didn’t look very expensive. He wondered why she was wearing them, but Lu Mingfei examined them very carefully.

“What do you want?” Nono seemed a little displeased by his scrutiny. She touched her earlobe, straightened her skirt, and got straight to the point.

Last night, in the middle of the night, Lu Mingfei asked her to meet him here. She refused several times, but finally couldn’t resist his persistent pestering. Lu Mingfei said he had a few important things to say and repeatedly assured her that he wouldn’t do anything out of line. Moreover, it was in a high-class restaurant like Aspasia, where there were many people coming and going, so Nuonuo finally agreed to sit for half an hour.

“Let’s order first,” Lu Mingfei said, flipping through the menu. “Sirloin steak, medium-rare, roasted white asparagus with salt and pepper, salmon and potato salad, lobster cocktail, sautéed mushrooms and onion rings.”

He didn’t ask Nono’s opinion, but Nono didn’t object, because what he ordered was indeed very good. Even the waiter complimented him, saying that these were their signature dishes and that he should come often, sir.

“No, no, I did some research online before coming.” Lu Mingfei handed the menu back. “And another bottle of ‘Screaming Eagle’.”

“Our store sells Screaming Eagle for 40,000 a bottle.” The waiter kindly reminded him that the wine was not cheap. Not only was it not cheap, but Nono was also surprised when the price was quoted.

“It’s alright, it’s alright, I’ll leave the card at the cashier.” Lu Mingfei took out a bank card and placed it on the tray. “Don’t worry, there’s enough money in it.”

“You’ve learned to put on airs after not seeing me for months.” Nono frowned. “Get to the point. I have to go to the consulate in a bit.”

“Going abroad? You need a visa?”

“Italy, I will go there for a year first.” Nono proudly raised her head as she said this. “It’s a great place, full of marble sculptures. The Papal Palace is especially worth visiting, but unfortunately the Raphael Gallery is usually not open to the public,” Lu Mingfei said casually.

“You talk as if you’ve actually been there,” Nono said, giving him a light but sarcastic remark.

“I’ve been there in my dreams,” Lu Mingfei said with a smile.

The wine arrived first, but Lu Mingfei waved his hand, indicating he didn’t need to taste it, to avoid the sommelier’s endless chatter about wine knowledge. The handsome man stared intently at him, clearly eager to know the distinguished guest’s opinion of wine. Even in upscale restaurants, it’s not always the case that customers order such niche and expensive wines.

Nono picked up the cup and swirled it around for a long time before taking a small sip. Suddenly, her brow relaxed. “It tastes pretty good, but I’ve never heard of it before.”

“American wine, nobody knows where this winery is, they only produce three thousand bottles a year, it has a cheese-like flavor.”

“When did you start knowing about red wine?”

“I don’t know, I looked it up online. It’s rare for me to treat you to a nice meal, so I needed to do my homework.” Lu Mingfei rested his elbows on the table, leaned forward slightly, and gazed into Nuonuo’s eyes. “How have you been lately?”

“Whether I’m doing well or not is none of your business!” Nono said, displeased again. “Our relationship isn’t what you think! I was just feeling sorry for you and was trying to comfort you!”

“I know, I know, I was just daydreaming,” Lu Mingfei said with a smile. “Please forgive me, okay? You know, a girl like you, if she smiles at someone, will overthink it. It’s my fault, I overthought everyone, I was just being hard on myself. You’ve been so good to me, so loyal, always thinking of helping me. I know you’re the kind of girl who wants to take home any poor cat or dog you see on the street, and I’m just one of those cats and dogs you picked up. If those cats and dogs think, wow, this is love, they’re definitely overthinking it. I won’t do that anymore, I just want to be good friends with you.”

His smile was calm and serene, like that of a boy born with a silver spoon, well-read, and with a detached personality, speaking his mind as if it were unimportant. This composure added a strange aura to him, and Nuonuo tilted her head to look at him, unable to tell for a moment whether he was a loser or a noble young master.

Her voice suddenly softened, “I heard from someone that you’ve been seeing doctors a lot lately, and my dad knows many good doctors…”

Lu Mingfei noticed the worry in her eyes, and suddenly felt a little happy. His faint smile instantly brightened, like a child who had received candy. She still cared about him, though to about the same extent as she cared about her cats and dogs.

“It’s alright, don’t worry. I’m not seriously ill, I just keep having strange dreams. I’ll look for a job in a while, and socializing will help. I just wanted to treat you to a meal to see how you are. I’ll be at ease if you’re doing well.” Lu Mingfei reached out and patted the back of her hand.
