Dragon Raja 5; Chapter 325: For Your Majesty (140)

Dragon Raja 5

“You can say that,” Auchinez said, groping ahead with his flashlight. “A child who escaped from city 023, years later, ends up with the girl he saw on the screen. What a beautiful love story, unbelievably beautiful. Yes, Bella Kopnitskaya was a prize, but she doesn’t know it. She thinks she’s fallen in love with a young, rich, and polite boy, with ten million rubles in his pocket and our help. What kind of woman wouldn’t he have? But to him, she was just a toy.”

“But he is very good to his daughter.”

“This is something none of us understand. He is definitely a fraud, otherwise he wouldn’t be qualified to be the organizer of this auction. I’m pretty sure that Bella kopnitskaya was just a pretty toy to him. He has many more pretty toys, but he really cares about that little girl.”

Auchinez suddenly stopped, squatted down, and rubbed the moss in the corner of the wall with his finger, revealing a faint scratch mark. He brought his finger to his nose and smelled it. “Someone passed by here not long ago.”

How do you know it was not long ago?

“In Siberia, you’d better put some butter on your boots to prevent them from drying out and cracking. I can smell the butter.”

Auchinez raised his flashlight and shone it on the top of the passage. Ever since he discovered the moss, Auchinez had been following it, and here it grew even more lush, the top of the passage a verdant green. The beam of the flashlight finally landed on an old-fashioned light bulb, and Auchinez turned to glance at Su Enxi.

“Woman, can I borrow your shoulder for a moment?” Auginez said.

“Old monster, how can you stand on the shoulders of a young girl? Are all Russians ungentlemanly bears?”

“I weigh fourteen years old now,” Auchinez said, his face turning green with anger, but he still reluctantly squatted down and let Su Enxi step on his shoulders.

Su Enxi touched the light bulb, which was slightly warm. Just as Auchinez had said, someone had passed by here not long ago.

Su Enxi took off the automatic rifle from her back. At this point, Auchinez should have no chance of turning against her, so she tossed one to Auchinez. Auchinez smiled wryly, “This thing isn’t something you can use with one hand. Give me your dagger.”

Ahead was a long, narrow passage. The further they went, the higher the humidity and temperature became, as if they were approaching a hot spring. Water droplets hung overhead, dripping down intertermittently, making it seem like a light rain was falling in the passage. That was because the permafrost had melted.

Wearing protective suit was useless at this point; they were so hot they felt like their skin was going to peel off. They took off their protective suits, stood back to back, and breathed heavily with tension.

They seemed to be getting closer to the city’s real secrets, the serum-producing factory, or the ghosts’ never-ending Christmas Mass—not entirely tense, but also exciting.

“Foolish woman, I haven’t even asked you which side you’re on,” Auchinez said.

Su Enxi casually made up the story of “the thirteenth member of the Romanov family,” but admitted that she and Zero were on the same side.

She never imagined that the person she’d end up with would be such a seemingly monstrous creature. The two had never trusted each other, yet they’d stumbled upon this place by accident. Discovering the secret might mean certain death, so being honest with her last ally wasn’t such a bad thing.

Auchinez sneered, “I guessed it. How could the Romanov family not be interested in such a huge fortune? That’s your real purpose for coming here. How about we split it 50/50?”

Su Enxi was taken aback.

“Look ahead, behind that door, each of us could buy a country.” Auchinez gestured with his chin toward the front.

Su Enxi had been staring behind her, but then she turned her head and saw the door at the end of the passage. It was hard to spot because it was completely covered in moss, with only the metal wheel used to open it gleaming.

The two of them rushed toward the door almost simultaneously. They were both cunning and shrewd, yet neither could contain their excitement.

“It’s a pity there’s no Geiger counter,” Su Enxi said.

Auchinez understood immediately. The door and the moss around it were so lush, the radiating moss stretching out from the top of the passage like the claws of a demon.

Even with suitable temperature and humidity, moss wouldn’t grow so wildly; the only explanation was radioactive material. Nuclear radiation stimulates plant growth, and after the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was decommissioned, the vegetation there is now as lush as a rainforest.

Without a Geiger counter, one wouldn’t know how strong the radiation behind the door was, but these two were ruthless enough to work together to turn the wheel and slowly pull open the ten-centimeter-thick stainless steel door.

Behind the door truly was a tropical rainforest, with wildly growing vines twining around every corner of the handrails, railings, and metal equipment, their ends sprouting delicate green leaves and tendrils, along with tiny flowers of various colors. The enormous cooling tower in the center looked like a pillar entwined with flowers.

This building uses almost no metal, yet metal was everywhere here because it was the center of the building, the very center of the magnetic field, like the eye of a storm, which is the quietest place. No matter how violent the external magnetic field is, it will not affect this place.

The organ played deep, solemn music, children dressed in white sang around it, a slender and beautiful nurse held a newborn baby in her arms, and the man playing the organ had his back to them, with a broad back and long, jet-black hair.

The hellhounds huddled at his feet like pet dogs, and even the children were not afraid of these dragon-blooded beasts, listening harmoniously and happily to the organ’s lament. Deep within the permafrost, there was indeed a Christmas mass taking place in a lush, enclosed space resembling a tropical garden.

This space was deeper than an air-raid shelter, forming a huge ring with radial passages leading to different areas. The central area was arranged more like a forest church, with Orthodox icons entwined with vines. The nurses and children were all dressed in plain white, while the black-clad man surrounding them looks like a mad devil.

But everyone looked at him with adoration, as if he were their master and priest.

Su Enxi held her gun at attention, while Auchinez silently climbed up a thick vine, the long dagger he had obtained from Su Enxi clenched in his mouth.

The man in black, whose leather boots were coated with a thick layer of grease, had led them here. He came whistling to join the children in their celebration, the sound echoing far and wide through the passageway.

The sound of the sealed door opening was loud enough that he couldn’t possibly be completely unaware, but the man in black remained engrossed in his music, and the nurses and children all wore happy smiles; no one looked in their direction.
