Dragon Raja 5; Chapter 307: For Your Majesty (122)

Dragon Raja 5

This was understandable, though. Having been baptized by dragon blood, they possess physiques far stronger than the average young man, and their battlefield experience far surpasses that of even the most seasoned GRU warriors. Judging from their conversations, many of them had even experienced World War II, where the hail of bullets and rivers of blood forged their nerves into something extremely resilient.

The intense gunfire also revealed their position. GRU troops were closing in, and in front of a passage, the GRU’s heavy gunners had the advantage of position, suppressing the old guys with a barrage of fire. Even Anna, hailed as the most terrifying female sniper in Soviet history, could only hide in a side passage, occasionally peeking out to fire a single shot.

“They’re not here to take you to jail, they’re here to execute everyone on the spot!” Lu Mingfei said.

He and Bunin hid in the same side road, with Bunin holding Christina tightly.

Christina’s condition was worse than zero. Suffering from ALS, her nervous system was already compromised, and the magnetic field completely disrupted her nerve electrical activity. Her body was stiff, she was shivering, and her face was ashen, like that of a dead person.

She left her bag at the venue; the special medicine was in it.

“Haven’t you figured out why they’re showing up now?” Bunin smiled wryly. “They’re here for the goods too. The auction just ended, and the goods must be with us. This isn’t some law enforcement operation; it’s a double-cross!”

Lu Mingfei shook his head vigorously, temporarily shaking off the jumbled sounds and images in his head.

“Where is your hovercraft parked?” Lu Mingfei asked. Bunin shook his head and lowered his voice, “There’s a helicopter on the rooftop, but it can’t carry all of us.”

The old man’s wicked scheme was at work again. He only prepared one helicopter, intending to escape with his daughter if anything goes wrong, without considering the lives of anyone else.

“But it’s enough to carry you and your friends!” Bunin quickly added when Lu Mingfei didn’t answer, “I can take you with me, but you have to protect me!”

“How can I protect you? I’m just a secretary, and my brother only has two knives.” Lu Mingfei said, “You’d be better off relying on your friends than on us.”

It wasn’t that he wanted to hide his strength; rather, he simply didn’t want to get involved. In this cutthroat competition, no one was truly righteous. He just wanted to leave with Chu Zihang and Zero, escaping in the hovercraft Bunin had promised.

The most important thing right now was to separate from these people. With fewer people, they will be a smaller target. With Chu Zihang around, they can use Junyan (King’s Blaze) to blast out an escape route.
He had to leave. He could temporarily shake off the illusion, but he couldn’t shake off the sense of crisis of being followed, like a cold blade pressed against his back.

He kicked the suitcase containing the goods to Bunin, saying, “I’ll help you, you help me, we’ll settle the money and goods, just tell me where the hovercraft is.”

Bunin gripped the handle of the suitcase, but stared intently at Lu Mingfei. “No, I’ll go with you. Only by going with you can I retire alive.”

Lu Mingfei was taken aback.

“I know too many secrets; people like that usually don’t live long. Besides, I took a shipment with me, and you saw how we fought each other to survive,” Bunin said hoarsely. “I have something else I can trade with you.”

“What is it?” Lu Mingfei asked.

“It was Vatutin who sent you to find me. Would Vatutin send you to find an ordinary black market merchant? He sent you to find me because only I can take you there,” Bunin said. “Only me.”

Lu Mingfei hesitated, trying to suppress the dizziness, his head throbbing as if it were about to explode.

Why was Vatutin executed so suddenly? Who was behind the GRU forces’ double-crossing? Who was Bunin’s boss? Many mysteries still lie hidden in the snowy plains of Siberia.

Is it really possible to reach that location using just a coordinate and a hovercraft? Vatutin doesn’t seem to be a casual person; before his execution, he told Zero the name Alexander Bunin, who was a guide.

Perhaps it’s not time to abandon our guide yet.

“Cover is needed.” Maxim drew a transparent tactical dagger from his waist. Holding it in his hand, it felt like a block of ice. It was probably 3D printed from some kind of plastic, and magnetic fields had no effect on it.

“Cover in three seconds.” Anna raised her hand, holding a smoke grenade, and began the countdown by straightening her bent fingers one by one.

Three seconds later, she threw a smoke grenade. The smoke grenade rolled along the ground, filling the entire corridor with thick smoke. Anna dodged out and fired a burst of fire, while Maxim launched an assault along the wall.

Maxim was hit by several bullets, but the wounds only caused him to stagger slightly. He took a bulletproof vest from a GRU soldier. The gunfire masked his footsteps, and within seconds he reached the doorway guarded by the GRU soldiers. Relying entirely on his hearing to locate himself, he used a transparent dagger to slice through the engineering plastic rifle, followed by several thrusts, spraying large amounts of blood through the thick smoke. The GRU soldiers had come to bury these old men, but the old men had no intention of leaving them any way out.

The armed guests emerged from the side passages where they had been hiding. Some of the ladies, who hadn’t managed to get any protective clothing, were still wearing evening gowns and high heels, yet they were brandishing brass belts with fierce intent.

“Let’s go now.” Lu Mingfei stood up. The thick smoke hadn’t dissipated yet, so they could leave quietly.

But after only a few steps, Lu Mingfei stopped. They heard barking behind them, as if a pack of fierce dogs was approaching.

In the smoke at the end of the passage, guests were stripping the soldiers of their protective suits and bulletproof vests, while the ladies casually kicked off their high heels and evening gowns, changing clothes on the spot. Having lived for so many years, they probably hadn’t even remembered the shyness of youth.

Using dogs in special operations is a common tactic, but they don’t care; against armed combatants, dogs are just there to die.

“No, that’s not right.” Lu Mingfei suddenly stopped.

“Something’s not right.” Chu Zihang also showed a wary expression.

“Just a few dogs,” Bunin said, puzzled.

“These aren’t ordinary military dogs.” Lu Mingfei handed Zero to Bunin as well. “Run!”

Zero and Christina are both slender girls, but even with Bunin’s stamina, he could hardly handle the blessing of being surrounded by two women, he couldn’t straighten his back.
