Dragon Raja 5

Lu Mingfei breathed a slight of relief. Bunin probably just wanted the warm-up to be more exciting, but using LSD was a bit too much.

“Isn’t it like raising venomous insects?” Zero said again. “Put dangerous insects in a jar, let them kill each other, the strong eat the weak, and the last one that survives is the useful one.”

Lu Mingfei was stunned for a moment, then shivered.

If these young tycoons are nothing more than parasites being nurtured, then how terrifying must the person who raises these parasites be! And what are their motives?

It wasn’t Alexander Bunin, but the behind-the-scenes boss that Bunin mentioned.

It’s ironic that Bunin so earnestly begged him to save his daughter, yet he didn’t tell him about LSD. Perhaps he’s also one of the Gu worms; Bunin hopes he’ll become even more ferocious so he can win the upcoming auction.

“How come you’re alright?” Lu Mingfei suddenly remembered.

“You’re alright too, aren’t you?” Zero glanced at him, then walked to the bar and ordered a glass of light wine.

Lu Mingfei scratched his head. Could it be that the bloodline of the great monster is immune to LSD? But this explanation doesn’t apply to Zero.

There were too many things that couldn’t be explained. Everyone here had their own secrets, and he was too lazy to ask. He continued to wander around the venue, observing everyone.

Those who left the gambling table, whether victorious or disappointed, gathered in small circles, speaking in hushed tones. Some were dejected, others agitated; the effects of LSD varied from person to person. But the trace amounts of hallucinogens weren’t enough to impair their thinking. They were, in fact, conducting business, as Christina said, pooling their resources. Those who felt they couldn’t win at the auction would hand over their chips to powerful individuals, and those who acquired them would likely pay a hefty price.
Bunin didn’t explicitly say what the little jar containing time was, but it was clear that it could drive these young people crazy, making them willing to go bankrupt for it.

But are they all as short of time as Christina? Are they all terminally ill?

Lu Mingfei witnessed a girl handing her card to Valodya. The shy boy then exuded a kingly aura, leaned down and whispered something in the girl’s ear, before kissing her red lips fiercely.

The girl who had handed over her chips and hopes lay helplessly on the sofa, as if her soul had been ripped away by that kiss. It was long after Valodya left with her chips that she struggled to get up and went to the bar to order a shot of liquor.

Valodya’s shyness might be a facade; this unassuming boy likely brought a huge sum of money with him, determined to win. He’s currently wandering around the arena like a reaper of souls.

Few dozen or so people still maintained their fighting spirit, including Christina, who was shouting at the gambling table. This outsider, who hadn’t even received an invitation, was probably just misled by LSD.

Lu Mingfei kept checking his watch. Time ticked by, and he found the apocalyptic carnival boring. The only thing he was looking forward to was the mysterious auction.

Finally, the wall clock struck. At that moment, everyone seemed to wake up from a dream and turn to look in the direction of the clock.

At midnight, the time specified on the invitation, the only door that had always been closed opened. Behind the door was a downward-sloping passageway covered with a scarlet carpet, the walls also painted scarlet, and bright gas lamps stretching downwards, giving the impression of leading people to hell. The waitresses approached their respective VIPs and quietly reminded them that the auction was about to begin. In truth, they didn’t need to remind them; everyone already knew. They stood up, the boys buttoning their suits, the girls adjusting their long hair and skirts, their expressions cold and fierce, like warriors heading to battle.

The chips on the gambling table were all taken away and converted back into numbers on cards. Everyone clutched their cards tightly, which were their weapons for deciding whether they could survive in the gu worm jar.

Seeing this, Lu Mingfei smiled for no reason. It wasn’t anything else, but he suddenly felt that this was no different from playing a game. Everyone was collecting rare treasures all over the world to forge divine weapons and armor, and now they were going to the arena.

Thinking this way suddenly made him feel relieved. To him, it was just a game, and in a sense, it had nothing to do with his life.

He followed the pretty waitress toward the passageway, when suddenly he heard footsteps behind him—familiar footsteps, running, like a nimble unicorn traversing a forest.

He turned around, and Christina, in her flowing unicorn-patterned dress, rushed into his arms and kissed his cheek. This sudden display of affection filled Lu Mingfei with a sense of impending doom, for the Princess and Chu Zihang were watching from either side. The Princess was one thing, but Chu Zihang’s shocked expression seemed to say, “I never expected this! Senior brother, you’ve gotten involved with a Russian woman!”

“Take my card with you! Don’t come back to see me if you lose!” Christina’s kiss was just a fleeting peck, and she didn’t even know if Lu Mingfei touched her. Then she threw a card at his face.

Lu Mingfei suddenly realized why the intelligence agent had been fighting so hard at the gambling table; she wanted to accumulate more chips for her underlings. A secretary, after all, probably didn’t have much money.

She really was a dedicated intelligence agent.

“You have to do something for me too!” Christina whispered fiercely in Lu Mingfei’s ear, “Otherwise, why should I give you the card?”

Lu Mingfei nodded quickly. No wonder he had to deliver the card in such a theatrical way. Now, in other people’s eyes, he was the boy who had been successfully conquered by Christina and was qualified to fight in place of the young lady.

He gave Christina a gentle hug. “Don’t worry, leave the rest to me.”

As the last guest stepped in, the heavy security door closed behind him. It seemed that this conference room was also part of an air-raid shelter, and opening this door from the outside at this moment would probably require an atomic bomb.

“It really is a breeding ground for venomous insects,” Lu Mingfei muttered to himself.

The circular conference table was large enough to accommodate dozens of people for a meeting. Guided by the waiters, the guests took their seats. Each person looked around and nodded in greeting as they sat down; given the current situation, it should be viewed as a boxer rubbing his gloves against his opponent before the match begins.

Lu Mingfei tossed “Finger” onto the table and casually shook it, while the camera had already captured the faces of each contestant.
