Lu Mingfei thought to himself that if he hadn’t heard clearly, he could have just made something up. After a moment’s thought, he said, “Your father believes that among the research institutes left over from the Soviet era, there is one that specializes in mysticism. Its ruins are in Siberia, but they haven’t been excavated yet. That big thing is some kind of genetically mutated animal, which should have escaped from that research institute. Have you heard of that research institute?”

Christina shook her head in confusion. “No, the mission I received didn’t mention any research institute. It just said they were probably trading devastating weapons technology in Siberia.”

Lu Mingfei nodded, thinking to himself that his father understood his daughter quite well. Christina didn’t know much about the truth of the Siberian snowfields, and she was likely a pawn of someone behind the scenes. Once she destroyed her father’s gang, she might face imprisonment and a bullet.

“Understood, I’ll keep an eye out for you,” Lu Mingfei replied casually. “What are you here to buy?” Christina asked again. “Nuclear weapons? Intercontinental ballistic missiles? I’ve heard the Romanov family has always been involved in finance. How did they get involved in arms dealing? Wouldn’t it be better to make some clean money?”

“If I told you we didn’t want to buy anything, that we never intended to be your father’s clients, and that you’ve completely misunderstood, would you think I was lying?” Lu Mingfei said with a wry smile.

Christina tilted her head, looked at him cautiously for a while, and nodded. “Okay, I believe you, but even if you haven’t committed any crimes, it’s wise to cooperate with the Federal Security Service. If you’re outsiders, my dad might kill you to silence you. Only the Federal Security Service and GRU special forces can protect you.”

“I understand. Who wouldn’t want to be a friends of justice if given the chance?” Lu Mingfei smiled.

“friends of justice? That’s a great word!” Christina’s eyes lit up, deeply approving of Lu Mingfei’s rhetoric.

Lu Mingfei thought to himself, “Of course you think this word is good, because in some ways you are similar to that man.”

Christina picked up the wine glass from the coffee table, about to drink, when her hand suddenly trembled, spilling the wine all over the table. Her face turned pale, her jaw clenched, and it was clear she was trying to control her hand, but the trembling grew more and more violent, like a person having an epileptic seizure.

Lu Mingfei hurriedly got up, ready to go forward to check, but was stopped by Christina with a forceful gesture. Trembling, she took out a medicine bottle from her small bag, put two orange-red pills into her mouth, and swallowed them with the remaining half glass of wine.

It was some kind of drug that worked very quickly. A dozen seconds later, her hand holding the cup stabilized, and the tension in her whole body eased.

She glanced at Lu Mingfei, then poured herself another glass of vodka. “Don’t tell anyone about this!”

“Epilepsy?” Lu Mingfei was slightly relieved. Epilepsy is not uncommon, but what if an epileptic patient were to have a seizure at a crucial moment while acting as an intelligence agent?

“No, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), ever heard of it?” Christina took a few deep breaths and leaned back on the sofa. This was the first time she had shown such exhaustion.

Lu Mingfei shook his head.

“It’s also called ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). My nervous and muscular systems will gradually atrophy, and I will lose the ability to move step by step. In the end, I will not even have the strength to breathe and will suffocate to death,” Christina said softly. “There is no cure. My mother also died from this disease.”

Lu Mingfei’s heart stirred slightly. Christina’s statement coincided with Bunin’s statement. That fierce and cunning old man really wasn’t lying to gain sympathy.

He silently observed Christina. As Zero had said, the intelligence officer was a true beauty, youthful, vigorous, and graceful. Her exquisite figure and slender, long legs seemed to have been crafted by God with a golden compass.

Yet such a perfect work was destined for a tragic end. As some books say, tragedy is the breaking of the most beautiful things.

Christina quickly pulled at her skirt to cover her legs, then crossed her arms to block the deep V-neck of her dress. She looked fierce and glared at everyone, saying, “What are you looking at? It’s very rude to look below a girl’s neck!”

“Don’t your admirers look at you from head to toe too?” Lu Mingfei shrugged. “When you skirt dance on the table, your flies up to your thighs.”

During those unrestrained drinking parties, the gazes focused on Christina were undeniably blatant, making Lu Mingfei somewhat uncomfortable. But perhaps Slavic people are inherently open-minded, and Christina’s fiery and alluring nature ignited the young man’s desire to conquer.

No wonder Bunin always comes when there’s wine. In his father’s eyes, Lu Mingfei wasn’t the only one trying to steal his family’s good cabbage.

“That’s different!” Christina scoffed. “I deliberately flaunted my sex appeal to them. If they didn’t look at me, wouldn’t my flaunting have been pointless? I was doing it to complete my mission!”

Lu Mingfei withdrew his gaze. “I’m very sorry.”

Christina paused for a moment, seemingly understanding the meaning behind Lu Mingfei’s scrutinizing look.
She tidied a stray hair behind her ear. “It’s okay, I’ve known this since I was little. Even though I won’t live past 40, I can live a more meaningful life than others!”

“Remember what you promised me!” Christina stood up, straightened her skirt, and strode away.

Finally, he could have some peace and quiet by himself. Lu Mingfei wanted to stare out the window for a while longer when he heard a faint breathing sound suddenly coming from under the bed!

That’s undoubtedly a master! Only someone with rigorous training can control their breathing so slowly and deeply, similar to the breathing techniques in Tai Chi. Such a person can be as still as a statue, but once they move, they’re like thunder and lightning. He must have drunk quite a bit tonight to not have noticed there was actually a third person in the room!

The Desert Eagle, which he had taped under the coffee table, was instantly in his hands. He spun around and knelt on one knee, ensuring a safe distance between himself and the bed, while simultaneously locking onto the enemy under the bed.

“It’s me.” A familiar voice came from under the bed, and then Chu Zihang crawled out from under the bed.
