Dragon Raja 5

Even after walking quite a distance, Lu Mingfei still felt as if the gazes coming from behind were two high-energy laser beams, threatening to burn him to a crisp.

The two had walked quite a distance when Zero suddenly burst out laughing. Lu Mingfei had never heard her laugh like that before and was stunned. Zero continued laughing until she squatted down, hugging her knees, still laughing uncontrollably. It was clear that she was deliberately suppressing her laughter so that it wouldn’t carry too far in the night and be heard by Bunin.

Lu Mingfei stared blankly for a long time, eventually caught up in Zero’s laughter and joined in, though his laughter sounded somewhat troubled. After tonight’s conversation, Bunin would likely scrutinize him even more closely, wanting to know if he was truly his future son-in-law. If Bunin really believed it, given the arms dealer’s personality, he would either dote on Lu Mingfei or prepare to kill him and bury him in Siberia.
After laughing, Zero stood up and resumed her signature indifference. “Let’s go. We’ve been wandering around for so long, and it’s a long walk back.”

“I’ve never seen you laugh like that before. Is it really that funny?” Lu Mingfei finally had a hand to scratch his head.

“No,” Zero said softly, “when you’re embarrassed, you’re more like when I first met you.”

Lu Mingfei was stunned for a moment, then suddenly remembered what Bunin had said earlier: “When a stubborn person meets someone, no one can compare.”

On the way back, they didn’t talk about anything heavy. Lu Mingfei said that City 023 was somewhat similar to where he lived as a child, and Zero also said that the place where she lived as a child was very similar to this place. Lu Mingfei curiously asked Zero where she grew up, thinking that so-called princesses should grow up in luxury, but Zero avoided the topic.

Back downstairs at the apartment building, they were heading to different units when Zero suddenly turned around after a few steps. “If you still don’t want to give up, I can help you.”

She didn’t give Lu Mingfei a chance to speak, turning and leaving a trail of high-heeled boots in the snow, their footprints resembling those of a rabbit or deer. Lu Mingfei stood in the snow for a long time, until the swirling snowflakes covered Zero’s footprints.

He pushed open the door to his room, and his head buzzed. A nude-colored gauze dress, as white as smoke, floated in front of the window. Christina was kneeling on the sofa, resting her chin on her hand, watching the snow fall.

This father and daughter are really relentless; one leaves and another comes along. He’s just a passerby hitchhiking; what does any of this have to do with him?

Christina glanced at him, her expression calm. She probably felt that Lu Mingfei was already her informant, so they could speak frankly and openly without hiding anything.

Two glasses of vodka were placed on the coffee table; even the liquor had been poured for Lu Mingfei, indicating they were about to have a deep conversation.

Lu Mingfei sighed and sat down on the sofa next to him. “If your admirers come to me drunk in the middle of the night with knives, how am I supposed to explain it?”

Christina had clearly drunk quite a bit, but she wasn’t drunk yet. She shrugged, looking completely nonchalant. “I told them I found Her Highness the Princess’s secretary very interesting, but he didn’t even glance at me the whole way. They all said that since you and Her Highness the Princess are a couple, of course he wouldn’t look at me. So I made a bet with them.”

“What kind of bet?” Lu Mingfei was taken aback.

“I bet I can make you fall for me!” Christina declared confidently. “That way, I won’t be afraid of anyone knowing when I come to talk to you.”

Lu Mingfei thought to himself, “Others are just enjoying the show, but you’re different; you yourself are the show.”

But it would be good to probe Christina’s words and see if Bunin was telling the truth.

He raised his glass and took a sip. “Miss Lieutenant, shouldn’t you explain to me the relationship between you and Mr. Bunin?”

“Did he say anything to you?” Christina tilted her head and looked at him fiercely.

“I ran into him while I was taking a walk just now,” Lu Mingfei said, deliberately speaking vaguely.
Christina bit her lip hard for a long time. “Fine! There’s nothing I can’t say! He’s my father! But I don’t acknowledge him as my father!”

Lu Mingfei nodded. “He said so too, but I’m not sure. You two really don’t look alike.”

“My mother was a beauty,” Christina said wistfully, staring at the yellow diamond. “I’m like my mother.”

“Your father is an arms dealer, and daughter is an intelligence agent tasked with destroying the arms dealer’s gang. Your family situation is truly a headache.” Lu Mingfei toyed with his cup. “He already knows your identity, so it will be very difficult for you to complete your mission.”

“I will not give up!” Christina said coldly. “The word ‘give up’ does not exist in my dictionary!”

Lu Mingfei sighed inwardly, “There are no words in my dictionary.” What’s the use of such a melodramatic declaration? In the end, this world is about strength. Words that aren’t in your dictionary can be forced into your vocabulary by others.

“Do you still want me to gather evidence of his crimes for you? But now that he knows your identity, he should cover up all his secrets.” Lu Mingfei said, then added with a hint of doubt, because Bunin had just invited him and Zero to that mysterious auction.

Could it be that there were no dangerous or contraband items at that auction, and it was just a regular arms auction? But it doesn’t make sense that these descendants of an old family traveled thousands of miles to Siberia to do business if they were just buying AK rifles or weapons that are legally allowed to be traded under international law.

“He cares a lot about your princess, so he probably needs something from you. If you pay close attention, you can always find clues. Don’t worry, I will write down all your meritorious deeds in the report.” Christina became serious, just like a homeroom teacher.

Lu Mingfei smiled in agreement, “I’ll keep an eye on it.”

“What is that big thing in the air-raid shelter?” Christina asked.

“Didn’t we already say that in the air-raid shelter?”

Christina frowned. “It was too far away and so dark that I couldn’t see or hear clearly.”
