Bunin had to turn on the mining lamp again to know what was going on around him.

The miner’s lamp illuminated the enormous dragon’s head, resting on the trestle, its massive body still mired in the deep trough, the enraged black snake attempting to escape. It was unknown what kind of suffering it had endured; many of the markings of the dragon’s form had been worn away, leaving its bald head a rather ridiculous sight. But within its pale, seemingly blind eyes, a faint, dark golden light still shone, like the flicker of a candle, stubbornly refusing to extinguish.

“Oh my God!” Bunin turned around and ran.

Lu Mingfei grabbed Zero’s hand and tried to pull her away. If the black snake unleashed its cold breath again, they would be directly hit, with no chance of survival, unless Lu Mingfei could control himself and instantly transform into a dragon.

But Zero pushed him away, standing on the cracked trestle, and looked the dragon in the eye. The huge, broken dragon struggled to climb up, like a helpless child, and the petite girl stood still in the cold wind it blew, humming a tune similar to a nursery rhyme to it.

Lu Mingfei had a strange feeling that this was not an accident, but a reunion after many years.

Before he could even consider it, gunfire erupted throughout the shelter. Countless bullets rained down upon the dragon’s head, showering it with dense sparks. Lu Mingfei’s guess was correct. The black snake’s movement didn’t trigger the security system because the deep trough wasn’t within its range. However, if it left the trough, it would still be identified as an intruder. This design also helped prevent the black snake from escaping.

Human bullets couldn’t even penetrate the ancient dragon’s skull, but purple-black blood still spurted out, splattering on Zero’s skirt and coat. The black snake roared angrily, shaking its head wildly, exerting all its strength. But it had no chance of leaving the deep groove. Bunin didn’t remove the chains from its body, but instead fixed the other ends of the chains to the ground. At this moment, the chains were as taut as piano strings.

Seeing this once noble and proud creature being besieged by these mundane weapons, Lu Mingfei felt a little sad for no reason, but he didn’t have time to be sad for too long. He grabbed Zero’s hand tightly to prevent her from breaking free, and pulled her away.

The black snake roared behind them, and every breath was so cold, but not the kind of fatal breath.

The air was filled with the smell of gunpowder and cement powder. Lu Mingfei didn’t bother to look for Bunin. He pulled Zero and ran towards the passage. As soon as he ran out of the pier, he felt someone hugged him from behind. As soon as he smelled the cold fragrance, he knew it was Christina. This girl probably decided to sneak in with them at the last minute. She didn’t have time to wash off the perfume on her body, which gave Lu Mingfei the feeling of being embraced by a soft and warm jade.

Lu Mingfei thought that this girl must have been scared silly. There were a thousand guns above their heads and a dragon behind them. What was the point of hugging him if she didn’t run away?

At this point, the black snake was finally driven back by the dense hail of bullets, falling back into the deep trough with a trail of black blood, slamming heavily onto the bottom. The swarm of dark red light points dispersed again, and the dense targeting beams cut the space into pieces.

“Run! You have an identification chip on you!” Christina, dressed in white camouflage combat uniform, glared at Lu Mingfei and yelled, punching his shoulders hard. It was not the traditional plot of “Little brother, you finally came to save me. I can’t repay you for your kindness. From now on, I am yours.”

Lu Mingfei finally understood why Agent Christina was holding him so tightly.

When Black Snake tried to escape the trough, the entire security system was alerted, and all guns were trained on it. Christina took that opportunity to descend to the surface. However, Black Snake had already retreated back into the trough, and the security system had reset. Christina would be shot as long as she stood on the ground. This was unless she stayed close to someone with an identification chip, tricking the security system into mistaking them for one person. This tactic was not new; couples who evaded fares on the subway also used it: they would swipe a single ticket and then hug each other through the ticket gate.

Zero looked at Christina coldly. After a moment, the little queen proudly extended her right hand, as if granting her subject the opportunity to kiss her hand. “You can hug me, I also have an identification chip on me!”
