Dragon Raja 5

Though unable to move without tracks, the T-64’s engine roared loudly, and thick smoke billowed from its rear. A wall of smoke several meters high rose across the courtyard, far more effective than the smoke screens launched by the GRU troops. This was because it wasn’t originally intended to target infantry. This tank’s smoke canister was designed to target anti-tank missiles, allowing it to conceal itself in the thick smoke when a missile struck. The tank driver, perhaps unfamiliar with the operation, hadn’t found the control for the smoke canister. The GRU soldiers lost their target and were forced to retreat temporarily, fearing the T-64’s anti-aircraft machine guns. A hit from that thing would leave no bullet hole, because even a glancing blow would shatter you into unrecognizable flesh and blood.

In the black smoke that was like a city wall, an old man in pajamas and plush slippers climbed out of the tank turret, waving his hands and running towards the Elizabeth Palace, “Don’t shoot! Don’t shoot! It’s me! It’s me!”

The driver of that tank was Alexander Bunin!

Bunin rushed in through the back door, which had been blown away, glanced around, and immediately hid in the fireplace. He must have had some military experience, as he immediately realized that this was the strongest corner in the living room, suitable for hiding from stray bullets.

“Do you have an extra gun? Give me one!” The old man looked embarrassed and angry.

“Mr. Bunin, can we first talk about what’s going on?” Lu Mingfei panted. “Even if you’re used to visiting people in a tank, could you please stop the car first?”

The situation reversed in an instant, and Alexander Bunin made his position clear with a grenade.

Looking back, the T-64 had never shown any malicious intent. It just rumbled towards the Elizabeth Palace and knocked down the wall. But it neither used its dangerous smoothbore gun nor strafed it with anti-aircraft machine guns.

“I’m not too sure. Not long after you left, one of my insiders in the Ministry of National Defense called me suddenly. He just said one sentence to me, telling me to escape immediately.” Bunin smiled bitterly. “When I opened the curtains, the special forces were flooding my garden like a tide. There were helicopters in the sky, armored vehicles on the ground, and at least five snipers pointing their guns at my bedroom window. Fortunately, I installed bulletproof glass.” Bunin took out a flat wine flask from the pocket of his hunting suit and took a big gulp. It still had a strong smell of Maotai. “I went go find my cell phone. There’s something in my safe. I have dozens of cell phones, all used to contact different insiders, but none of them answer my calls! I’m arguably the most ruthless person in this city. Americans have to ask me for help if they want to get through the government backdoor! But my bosses abandoned me overnight. All I could do was pack up my collection and run away! Because I met you! Who are you? Who the hell are you? Zawahiri? Semion Mogilevich? Joaquin Guzmán Loera? Who do you work for? Are you a drug trafficker? A nuclear bomb dealer? Or the IRA?

Lu Mingfei was stunned. The series of names Buning uttered were completely unfamiliar to him.

“The people with the highest bounties in the world today are all over the place.” Zero knew that Lu Mingfei’s knowledge in this area was limited, so she had to step forward to explain. “Mr. Bunin’s point is, who exactly are you that deserves to be dealt with by regular troops?”

Lu Mingfei said with a bitter face, “I haven’t even graduated from university and haven’t submitted a resume yet, so how can I get a job?”

“So the people we’re facing are really active Russian troops.” Zero whispered.

Everyone fell silent. This was a terrifying conclusion. No matter how dangerous their journey had been, they had always been fighting against a small elite group of covert operators. And now, Russia, the heir to the superpower, stood against them.

There was also Army General Vatutin who was secretly executed. To this day, it was still unclear which department or who issued the execution order, and the forces involved in this incident was becoming increasingly powerful.

“If I don’t find the reason, I’ll be hiding like a mole for the rest of my life.” Bunin threw the backpack on his shoulder to the ground, and several ancient file folders slipped out of the backpack. “Your people peeked at my notebook, but it’s useless. The real information is here.”

Zero remained calm, “Real information?”

“To be honest, I don’t have the coordinates of the fifteen bases to be destroyed. All of them would entered by the Ministry of Defense before the launch of Sarmat missiles. I learned about this project through my insider and ran errands for the Ministry of Defense for free, acting as a cleanup agent in that area. In return, they gave me the exact coordinates of two of the bases. One of them is meaningless, but the other is an attempt to assemble the only Tu-119 nuclear-powered bomber. It has a miniaturized nuclear reactor. It’s sophisticated, but not perfect, and there are nuclear leakage issues. If I get the blueprints and resell it directly, I’ll get tens of millions of dollars. Replicating a prototype will bring me one or two hundred million. And if I solve the nuclear leakage problem, it will be over half a billion dollars.” Bunin regained his Russian, or rather Tatar, savage demeanor, no longer pretending to be kind fellow from Northeast China. “I bought these files from the old man in the Ministry of Defense at a high price. That surreal Siberia back then is hidden in them.”

“So this is your real deal,” Zero said.

“A deal with no cost is always the best deal, just like panning for gold. But now that you know the location of two gold mines, don’t you want to know the remaining thirteen?” Bunin sighed, “And you just happened to come to me with a coordinate.”

“If I’m not mistaken, your exploration team is already on the way there, right?”

“12 people, two armed snowmobiles, and 60 sled dogs. There are no-fly zones all around, so we dare not use planes.” Bunin borrowed a fire from the remaining ashes in the fireplace and lit a cigarette.

“Lao Lin, are you driving a tank towards our door to save us?” Lu Mingfei interrupted. He was still used to calling Alexander Bunin Lao Lin.

“A Russian, no, a Tatar, must keep his word. I said I would guarantee your safety in Moscow, and I have a tank in my hand. There is nothing to be afraid of. If armored vehicles try to stop me, I will crash them down. So I came to pick you up, but who knew that you had anti-tank missiles hidden in your house! Who the hell are you? Viktor Anatolyevich But has nothing to do with you?” Bunin became excited again.
