“We have to take the initiative to save ourselves.” Schneider finally spoke up, “We are not out of danger yet.”

Kaiser spread out a nautical chart in front of Schneider. “About 120 kilometers from us, there’s an abandoned Russian research station. It’s called abandoned, but in reality, all the equipment is sealed. If we send someone there, we might be able to establish contact with the outside world.”

“Won’t the ice storm cut off all communications?” asked Finger.

“According to the naval manual, the research station had long-wave communication equipment,” Caesar said. “That was humanity’s earliest form of radio wave communication. Marconi used long waves to achieve transatlantic radio communication in 1901. Long waves propagate along the Earth’s surface and attenuate with distance. Later, humans discovered that short waves, which repeatedly refract between the Earth’s surface and the ionosphere, were more efficient than long waves. So short-wave communication gradually replaced long-wave communication. The EVA’s communication method with us was even more advanced. It communicated with us via a satellite in low-Earth orbit using laser signals and microwaves. Other signals would be interrupted by ice storms, but long waves wouldn’t. With enough power, they could penetrate the ice storm and carry information about our distress to the nearest human city.”

“A 120-kilometer trek in this weather is not easy, even with a snowmobile, and we have to avoid polar bears,” Schneider mused. “Not many of us have the physical strength to do this.”

Finger subconsciously shrank his head, looking away quietly and obediently. Fortunately, no one was looking at him, so Caesar spoke directly.

“It just so happens that I should have the physical ability.” Caesar shrugged. “As for polar bears, I can try to greet them or smash their heads.”

“One person is not enough. It’s easy to get lost when exploring the road in a polar environment,” said Schneider.

“I am very happy to accompany Master Caesar. This is the reason why I am here.” Percy bowed slightly.

“Brother, I’ve been telling you, your secretary is amazing. I envy you.” Finger patted Caesar’s shoulder with emotion. “You must come back alive. I want to eat the food your secretary cooks!”

“But why not you?” Schneider frowned. “Although you’ve been demoted to F-rank, your physical fitness and luck have always been among the best in the academy.”

“You’re kidding, Professor!” Finger said righteously, “Look at the bond between master and servant! The boss stepped forward in times of crisis, taking on the responsibility without hesitation! The secretary loyally protected his master, not once bringing shame to the boss! Where else can you find such a good combination? You don’t trust such a team! I feel sorry for you! There are hundreds of living people on this ship! You say you trust an F-class to complete the mission? I think your idea is flawed!”

Schneider was stunned by what he said, unable to respond for a moment. Finger’s logic was correct. Caesar and Percy would be the natural first choice. With Abbas seriously injured, these two were arguably the most powerful men on the ship.

But in the end, he shook his head. “The combination I recommend is Percy and Finger. Caesar, you are already a trustee of the academy. You are not qualified to sacrifice yourself lightly. Although each of us can sacrifice ourselves when necessary, some lives must be saved for when it is more necessary to be deployed on the battlefield.”

“I also feel that Percy and I are not a suitable combination,” said Caesar.

This time it was Finger’s turn to turn pale. He looked around like a groundhog just out of its hole, staring into everyone’s eyes, wondering if he could find a way out of this little resolution meeting.

“But I don’t agree with the combination of Percy and Finger either,” Caesar continued.

Schneider was stunned.

“I never trusted this guy.” Caesar stared into Percy’s eyes, which were now obscured by Percy’s hair. “He never served me. He was sent by the family to monitor me. He only obeyed the old men in my family.”

“My family has always been a loyal sponsor of the Secret Party. While we have our own interests, we also always defend this world.” Percy bowed slightly. “Although my top priority is to ensure your safety, Master Caesar, and I can even sacrifice everyone on board if necessary, please trust my position in this ice storm.”

Schneider was horrified.

Anyone who had witnessed Percy’s performance in slaying the giant snake would be deeply shocked, even horrified, and Schneider was no exception. The Gattuso family would even send the future head of the family to Cassel Academy for training, yet they had instead trained a terrifying secretary like Percy. He hadn’t had time to reflect on this matter, but after hearing Percy’s words, he had to carefully examine this man.

This person who is always waiting to serve you but can easily kill you, he doesn’t even hide the fact that he is not on the same side as Cassel Academy.

At this time, the phone on the table rang. Part of the power output of the small diesel generator set was used for the communication system, otherwise such a large ship would be impossible to unify the command.

The caller was Rebalco. “Professor, I’m afraid you’ll have to come to my side, or Mr. Gattuso. I need someone who can convince everyone. I may not be able to do it alone.”

Caesar quickly entered the cabin on the lower level. He had come running, but he slowed down the last part of the way to maintain his dignity.

When Rybalko called, he could hear people shouting in Russian, on the verge of hysteria. Caesar could understand Russian, and they were shouting, “Kill her! Kill her! She’s a monster!”

Rebalko was responsible for rescuing Abbas and Snow. The ship’s doctor had died, but fortunately there was still sufficient supply of medicine on board.

This was a narrow cabin located between two nuclear power compartments, but it was crowded with dozens of emotional sailors who were all yelling. Rebalko, holding an AK47 rifle and with a fierce look on his face, blocks these people.

Behind him was a solid iron fence. Inside the fence, the thin and small Snow was fixed to the ground by iron chains. A rough rope was across her mouth. This binding was to prevent her from making any sound. Her eyes were covered with layers of bandages, which was of course to cover up her mirror-like golden eyes.

The chains on her body were so tight that their skin was chafed, and blood seeped out, staining her thin white dress red. The temperature here was slightly higher than in the library, but still close to freezing. The thin girl was in danger of freezing to death at any moment, but it was unclear whether she was still unconscious or dead. She lay there quietly, without making a sound.
