Dragon Raja 5

Seeing the scars on Su Enxi’s body, she doubted her. She had followed them to Vatutin’s residence, which happened to be nestled in a dense birch forest. Though a civilian cadre, the “Black Gold Swan” was a ruthless figure. The tactics Zero had been reluctant to use against Vatutin were unacceptable to Su Enxi, as she had no personal connection with Vatutin.

But the truth was that Vatutin was executed. Su Enxi disdained to lie about such a thing. If she really killed Vatutin, she would admit it even if Zero stood in front of her with a knife.

“I followed you to Vatutin’s residence. The area where he was under residential surveillance was a military restricted area, so I had to park outside it. Shortly after you left, I heard gunfire. To take a shortcut, I ran over a slope. By the time I arrived, the execution was over, and the gang was burning the scene with flamethrowers,” Su Enxi said. “They’re trying to cover it up by saying it was a forest fire.”

Zero let go of Su Enxi, slowly backed away, and sat down on the sofa opposite, her eyes blank.

“So don’t worry about anything. He knew he would be executed, so he drove you away. Someone guessed that you would go to him, and every word between you was monitored.” Su Enxi said.

“Did you kill them?” Zero asked.

“What?” Su Enxi didn’t understand.

“Did you kill those executioners?” Ling still had no expression, but a terrible aura emanated from her, like a queen who couldn’t wait to hang a traitor.

“Would killing those people have any effect? They were just the ones who did the fighting. They were just tools. Someone killed your friend, and you broke his weapon. It was just a way to vent your anger.”

After a long silence, Zero nodded slightly, and the terrifying aura subsided slightly.

“Of course, I didn’t let them off easily either. I arrested them all and interrogated them separately. If someone didn’t answer, I broke a bone. If they disagreed, I broke a bone for each of them. From a game theory perspective, this way you’ll definitely get to the truth,” Su Enxi said. “So while you were touring Moscow at night, I was working as an orthopedic surgeon.”

Zero shook her head. “You won’t get anything out of asking. The people behind this are hiding very well. Vatutin thinks we can’t defeat them, so he doesn’t want to tell me the truth.”

“That’s right. The torture revealed that Vatutin’s execution was ordered by a special department. These people were just Russian special forces. They were ordered to keep an eye on Vatutin and had the authority to execute him if necessary,” Su Enxi said. “The people behind the scenes used the military to eliminate Vatutin. Their influence has infiltrated the Russian army and government.”

The two women sat facing each other in silence, and Zero didn’t make a sound until Su Enxi finished smoking her cigarette.

“As for that research institute, you’ve lived there for so many years, but this is all you have of it?” Su Enxi asked.

“I don’t want to talk about this right now.” Zero stood up and walked out.

“Don’t bother going there. It’s burned to ashes. I’ve packed up the body and sent it to the crematorium. I’ve also bought a plot for the grave. After the burial, I’ll give you an address. If you want to pay your respects, go there.” Su Enxi lit another cigarette. Her efficiency was always high.

“I’m going to the rooftop to get some fresh air.” Zero shoved her hands into her pockets. She hadn’t taken off her coat since she entered the bedroom. Suddenly, she froze, stood still for a moment, and pulled a note from her pocket. Because she was wearing gloves, she hadn’t put her hands in her pockets even on a late-night stroll.

She read the note silently. It was small and couldn’t hold many words, but she read it for a long time. Su Enxi felt something was wrong and came over to read it with her.

“Actually, I know who you are. I’ve seen your photo in those files. You’re the only girl among them who doesn’t smile. Do what you think is right.” The note was written in a very sloppy manner. On the other side was someone’s name and address.

Lu Mingfei took off his hunting jacket and hung it on the hanger, and unloaded the weapons hidden in the hunting jacket, including the short arc knife in the sleeve and the spare magazine in the pocket. He was now a man who carried weapons wherever he went.

When the spare magazine was pulled out, a white slip of paper came out. Lu Mingfei opened it with confusion. It was written in sloppy handwriting, using poor Chinese characters. “The only thing you can’t let down in this world is your country, and the woman who has always been with you.”

After much thought, the only possibility was that Vatutin had slipped the note into his pocket when he threw his coat to him.

Stuffing a note wasn’t really Vatutin’s style. What couldn’t be said openly and honestly? He couldn’t quite make out the meaning. “The woman who’s always been with you”—could it be Zero? Perhaps the old man had misunderstood his relationship with Zero.

Lu Mingfei lay on the bed, staring at the note for a while, then he felt sleepy and fell asleep.

The roof of Elizabeth Palace was a marble-relief attic, surrounded by a circle of carved iron railings. Zero leaned on the railings and looked out at Moscow at night. The twinkling lights stretched towards the distant horizon.

The wind was strong, and she had been standing there for a long time, not moving at all. Footsteps came from behind her. Su Enxi, wearing a mink cloak that reached her ankles over her nightgown, had her long hair tied up on top of her head and was walking up in high-heeled slippers, like a 19th-century noblewoman.

“I’m a killer. I don’t have any emotions.” She handed a cup of hot chocolate to Zero and leaned on the railing with her, looking out. “If that were true, you would probably be much happier.”

She hugged Zero and let her rest her head on her shoulder.
