Dragon Raja 5; Chapter 12: Public Enemy (12)

Dragon Raja 5

The elevator in Valhalla descends to the ice cellar, and the elevator in the library descends to the EVA’s engine room. Where will this elevator take them? Doesn’t the underground space of this academy resemble a giant spider’s nest? One can’t help but wonder what kind of monster lurks in its depths.

“When they built this academy, they first hollowed out the entire mountain below and moved all the belongings that the secret party had accumulated in Europe for thousands of years. But the place I’m going to take you to is unknown even to most of the elders,” Finger said. “I call it the Hub.”

“Hub?” Caesar asked.

“It’s an electronic device where all the wiring is stored and organized,” Finger glanced at Caesar, “like the nerve center of a living thing.”

The elevator stopped and the doors opened. Caesar and Abbas looked at the huge and messy space in front of them in surprise.

This is truly a giant hub. In the huge space, millions of wires of various colors are entangled with each other and go in different directions. The four walls are full of huge old-fashioned computers. The ancient transistors are flashing in the dark, and the tape-like storage is rotating, making a slight clicking sound.

“This is a computer room,” Abbas said softly, “or a computer museum.”

“The first general-purpose computer was built at the University of Pennsylvania in 1946. People called it ENIAC. At that time, the secret party realized that it was a great thing that could change the world, so they copied ENIAC here and renamed it EVA,” said Finger. “That’s what you see now.”

“So EVA was born in 1946.” Caesar looked up at the huge cabinets.

“Over the next few decades, they continued to enhance her with newer technologies, until she became a super-network capable of monitoring the entire world. Her processors grew ever larger and were placed in the space beneath the library, but the underlying command library could only be written and modified here.” Finger removed the dust cover, stirring up a cloud of dust. “We can think of those processors beneath the library as EVA’s neurons, and this is her brainstem.”

Under the dust cover is an old console with a monochrome display from the 1980s.

Finger turned on the power and operated it skillfully. The green code flashed quickly and finally paused.

“A core command library written in Latin?” Abbas said.

“Yes, this system was developed specifically for her, and the language was also created specifically for her, based on Latin. The meaning of this core command library is…”

The logic behind the name probably means that her main job is actually dancing. She writes a few short poems to entertain herself after dancing. This is both a self-deprecating way of saying that her works are not suitable to be compared with others, after all, they are just occasional works in her spare time. It also means that she still has a more famous and legitimate job, which is dancing.

And my real job is digging holes.

Let’s just happily decide it.

“No, I can read Latin.” Caesar stopped Finger and translated the short command library word for word. “First, protect Lu Mingfei’s life and safety. Second, eliminate all targets that may threaten Lu Mingfei’s life and safety, unless there is no other way to protect Lu Mingfei. Third, any order that conflicts with the first two is invalid.”

“It even includes orders to kill,” Abbas said softly.

The second order was indeed a kill order. If EVA determined that she could not guarantee Lu Mingfei’s life without killing, then she was authorized to kill. “Eradicate” sounds like a neutral word, but when applied to a living target, it means obliteration.

“According to Article 3, she will not carry out the orders of the Elders Council to search for Lu Mingfei worldwide. We should be thankful that the Elders Council has not yet had the opportunity to kill Lu Mingfei,” Finger shrugged. “Otherwise, she might decide that the Elders Council should be wiped out.”

“What should we do?” Caesar asked. “If we can’t capture the EVA’s core command library, then we’re effectively in the same trench with the enemy.”

“There’s no need to break through it. You can’t break through EVA’s firewall from the outside, but here, modifying this core command library is just a matter of typing.” Finger hit the Enter key.

A flashing cursor appeared on the screen, and Caesar and Abbas were stunned. This cursor meant that this cruel and uncompromising core command library could be modified like a Word file.

It feels like if God wants to change the rules of the world, he just needs to say it orally, simply saying “from now on there will be no more gravity in the world”, and then in an instant the solar system collapses, and the sun and countless large and small planets and satellites no longer revolve around each other, but float alone in the universe.

Finger began to press the backspace key, deleting the command lines byte by byte. His expression was arrogant and his movements were graceful, like an emperor signing a decree of war.

“That’s it! All orders to protect Lu Mingfei have been deleted. From this moment on, EVA will work for us!”
