Dragon Raja 5; Chapter 385: For Your Majesty (200)

Dragon Raja 5

Lu Mingfei smiled and glanced at the ruthless middle-aged woman. Sure enough, even at the ends of the earth, women are still a species that will try to support their families.

“When I mentioned what that guy looked like at the end of the evaluation meeting, the atmosphere became a little tense,” Lu Mingfei said.

“I noticed that too, but Dr. Duden confirmed with me afterwards that there would be no problem with you staying.”

“Where’s Dad? Did he go to work overtime?”

“He was kept behind for a meeting by the committee. They’re always meeting day and night; I’m used to it.”

“May I introduce myself?” Someone came up to Giovanni and Lu Mingfei’s table and introduced themselves, “My name is Khorkina.”

A tall girl with a small head and delicate face, her bright golden hair tied into a small bun on top of her head, added a touch of childlike innocence to this aloof girl.

Lu Mingfei was unable to get up from his wheelchair, and he had the illusion that his long legs seemed endless no matter how he looked up.

“Lu Mingfei, I just arrived.” Lu Mingfei quickly turned his wheelchair to make room for Khorkina, but Khorkina waved her hand to indicate that it wasn’t necessary.

“Just introducing myself. We should see each other again in class. I won’t disturb your meal any longer.” Khorkina looked aloof and cold, yet extremely polite. She bent down and gently hugged Lu Mingfei, her cheek touching him.

This was probably just a formality for the Russians, but Lu Mingfei couldn’t help feeling flattered. Khorkina smiled and waved to Giovanni before returning to her seat.

Lu Mingfei stared at the slender back of that ballerina, which seemed ready to leap up at any moment. At the same time, he realized that he wasn’t the only one staring at that back.

“Khorkina Pugacheva, of Ukrainian and Russian descent, was a ‘gem’ preparatory student at Moscow State University before coming here. Congratulations, you’re now the enemy of all the boys,” Giovanni whispered in his ear.

“I did feel a cold gaze piercing through me from behind. Is she the prettiest one here?” Lu Mingfei said with a wry smile.

“No, no, in terms of looks and figure, there are plenty of people here who can rival her, and academically, there are others who are just as good as her. But from a sociological perspective, when we put a certain number of individuals into a closed environment, and these individuals are basically equally competitive, there will still be one individual who gains everyone’s respect and is willingly obeyed. This is the king or leader selected by the social mechanism. Our beautiful, lively, and likable Khorkina is one of the girls selected. When every boy thinks she is good and the most worthwhile target to compete for, her status will rise steadily, even forming a halo effect.”

Lu Mingfei finally remembered that his mother’s sub-specialty in archeology was actually the study of the structural methods of ancient societies.

“The queen of girls has extended an olive branch to you, what’s wrong with that? Now you’re sharing in that glory, will Lu Lincheng and Giovanni’s son be crushed by it?” Giovanni shrugged, “Anyway, you’re just a bachelor like Yang Shupi.”

Lu Mingfei scratched his head awkwardly. He confessed everything but didn’t mention Nuonuo, feeling that it was a personal matter and had nothing to do with the survival of the world.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Lu Mingfei, the president of the Cassel College Student Union,” someone said behind Lu Mingfei.

Lu Mingfei turned around, and there was another Russian face, but it was a boy, thin and pale, with a slightly arrogant expression. However, when facing Lu Mingfei, he still politely bowed and shook hands with Lu Mingfei.

“Whether I become your friend or your rival, it will be my honor.” Like Khorkina, Anton didn’t intend to talk to Lu Mingfei much. He nodded slightly to Giovanni and returned to his own table.

“Anton Belozovsky, your potential rival, at least that’s what he thinks of himself.” Giovanni smiled and waved at Anton’s retreating figure, but her tone revealed her indifference.

“A suitor of Miss Khorkina?” Lu Mingfei asked in a low voice.

“No, no, Anton is the best student here, what we Chinese would call a top student. He probably misunderstands and thinks you are the best student at Cassel College, an S-level student, and the student council president. He probably wants to compete with you academically.”

“Our school’s student council is basically based on succession, like brothers passing on their positions to their brothers or fathers. I had a good personal relationship with the previous president.” Lu Mingfei wasn’t ashamed at all.

“You’ve certainly inherited your father’s knack for building relationships,” Giovanni said with a hint of satisfaction. “Once your father’s gone, I think the chairman’s position will be yours!”

“It’s not fair to say that, after all, he’s my biological father.”

“Your dad’s changed! Ever since he climbed into the leadership here, he’s completely changed! Do you know he suggested implementing a system where one man is paired with ten women?! If I hadn’t intervened, your half-siblings would be lined up all the way to the door!”

“He wants me to pass on the message that he won’t even glance at any other woman except you.”

“Heh, look at the smirk on that assistant calculator’s face!”

The mother and son chatted idly, with Giovanni telling him anecdotes and gossip about this haven. It sounded like a place brimming with life, exactly like the old research institute from years ago. Respected senior experts would chat with the young draftsmen from time to time, and the director’s wife had once stormed into his office with a wok, demanding answers… Several groups of people came over to greet Lu Mingfei; apparently, a committee member had leaked the news. Everyone wanted to see Cassel College’s most powerful dragon slayer. The boys wanted to befriend him, while the girls saw him as a star. Just as his mother had said, there were many women whose looks and physique could rival Khorkina’s.

“See? A new life, son. Don’t worry. Before, your parents were too busy with their careers to take good care of you. You deserve better.” Giovanni looked at the back of a shy girl who came over to say hello and said softly, “New friends, prettier girls… but you still have something on your mind. You’re smiling, but you’re not happy.”

“I have a few friends outside, and they have never given up on me,” Lu Mingfei said softly.

He avoided the real point; for the entire meal, he thought about that little devil named Lu Mingze, his every joy and anger, his tears and his arrogance.

Who is his best friend outside this safe haven? It’s hard to say. It could be Chu Zihang, or it could be Finger, or it could be the little devil, the guy who visits you like a salesman, always saying your soul must be delicious, but who has never done anything to disappoint you. If he really is a parasite, then he not only protects the host’s life, but also shares the host’s anger and loneliness. Lu Mingfei can’t forget the devil’s soaring rage over Tokyo Bay, nor can he forget the little devil walking with him in the rain, his little face mixed with tears from the rain.
