Dragon Raja 5

Auchinez’s newly grown nails were as sharp as claws, and Su Enxi’s dagger was no less impressive. Dragon blood enhanced Auchinez’s hearing and sense of smell, but unless he happened to possess a Yanling like “Kamaitachi” that specifically strengthens a certain sense, like Caesar, he would not be as strong as Suenxi. He was merely a hybrid created by the dragon blood serum, while Suenxi was at least the original.

The only regret was that when Mai advised her to learn some ninja skills, she didn’t listen. But it’s not her fault. If Ma Chao wanted to teach Zhuge Liang how to use a spear, Zhuge Liang probably wouldn’t learn either. “I have five tiger generals under my command. Do you think I need to take on Sima Yi one-on-one?”

If Auchinez saw her as the kind of fat sheep who would cower in fear, screaming and running away, leaving his vest behind, he was sorely mistaken. Of the three, the true female rogue was none other than Su Enxi. Before that man found her, she had seen through too much and learned to be indifferent.

That damned strong magnetic field was still interfering with her senses, and various hallucinations flashed by. Occasionally, she felt that the man was strolling behind her, so there was nothing to be afraid of.

In 1998, on the top floor of the Lisboa Hotel in Macau, eight-year-old Su Enxi sat by the gambling table, munching on potato chips.

She still remembers that day when she wore a white t-shirt with a black straight skirt, black leather shoes with white socks, and her long black hair tied in a ponytail, looking like a top student.

That was an important day. It was the day she first met the man named Lu Mingze, and she felt nothing but disdain for him.

“Have you heard of our little prodigy Su Su, young master?” The casino owner, speaking in a thick Hong Kong accent, had a smug look on his chubby face as he placed his hands on Su Enxi’s shoulders. “Even the gambling kings of Las Vegas have to ask her for advice on card skills.”

Opposite Su Enxi was a boy who looked to be still in middle school, but his clothes gave off an old-fashioned vibe: white leather shoes and trousers, a navy blue suit jacket, and colorful silk handkerchiefs stuffed in his jacket pocket.

However, it looked alright on him. Compared to his peers, he appeared a little more mature, a little more composed, and a little more relaxed.

Children of this age were not supposed to be allowed in casinos, but private casinos upstairs were often less strict, and since they’re willing to spend a lot of money on chips, there was no reason to turn them away.

Su Enxi had dealt with several of these young masters. Some stole money from their families to squander, while others were simply given money by their parents who didn’t care and let them do whatever they wanted. They’d experienced everything at such a young age; sports cars, designer brands, and even pretty girls were nothing new to them. But they hadn’t tired of gambling. Relying on the money in their pockets, they wanted to experience the thrill of high-stakes gambling. A single game was like a rollercoaster ride, sometimes soaring to the heavens, sometimes plummeting to the depths of despair.

Gambling is a rare example of a legally permissive business; it’s the kind of business that knowingly exploits human weaknesses to make money.

But Su Enxi’s boss at the time once said something very philosophical: “People are like wild horses. You have to let them run. If you don’t let them run until they’re tired, they’ll crash into a cliff and die.”

Su Enxi also looked down on her boss, but she admitted that her boss had a point.

The boss had several girls like Su Enxi working for him, all of whom were beautiful, sophisticated, and aloof. Su Enxi was the youngest among them. Sometimes, customers would have incredibly good luck, so good that even the casino become worried. At those times, the boss would solemnly bring out a particular girl and introduce her to the customer. Some girls were nicknamed “Masterminds,” others claimed to be Harvard math graduates—basically, they were all very beautiful and capable, and would ask if you wanted against gambling them.

Men are actually very much like cats, even more so than women. They have an insatiable curiosity and are almost never refusing to do something in these situations. But curiosity killed the cat, and that saying applies to men as well.

Without exception, the girls were exceptionally good at math, or rather, numbers. They had an extremely accurate grasp of the probability distribution at the gambling table, which slightly increased their winning rate. Even a tiny increase was enough; a mere two-point improvement was enough to leave customers penniless or even heavily indebted to the gambling hall. The owner gathered these girls from all over the country, feeding and caring for them, making them invaluable assets when needed.

If any guy becomes particularly alert and tries to leave with his chips, there’s an even more ruthless trump card: the girl can simply smile and say, “My bet can be myself.” Even the most determined brothers, like Optimus Prime, will have no choice but to throw their chips back onto the table.

In fact, the scheme was already set up from the moment they entered the casino. Girls of all shapes and sizes came and went. Some were served drinks by waiters, while others pretended to be gamblers and sat for a while. By observing who he paid attention to, they could tell what kind of girls he liked. Then, the girls they would invite out to gamble with would be of that type, and even more beautiful and sophisticated.

Su Enxi was able to hang out here because there were always a few die-hard pedophiles, mostly greasy old men who would be perfect for barbecue without needing any sauce. They stared at Su Enxi inch by inch, making her wonder, since she hadn’t even developed yet, what was there to see? Depending on how polite the stares were, Su Enxi would control her intensity. If they were too disgusting, she’d finish in half an hour and call it a day; if they were restrained, she’d leave them some travel money.

She felt no guilt whatsoever about this job. At the age of eight, she felt she had already understood the world and harbored the spirit of a sharp-tongued aunt inside her.

Unlike her companions, Su Enxi had no tragic past; her ending up as a tool for a casino boss in Macau was entirely her own decision.

She was born in a small town in the countryside of Fujian. Now, when she looks back, all she remembers is the lush greenery and the aroma of oolong tea.

It was a rainy city, always either raining or about to rain. Under the gloom of dark clouds, an old man held a little girl and picked up beans under the eaves, singing a Hokkien song: “The sky is dark, it’s going to rain, the Dragon King of the Sea wants to marry someone.”
