The whales following Leviathan also came to help, swimming behind him, probably trying to bite off the giant snake wrapped around him. They were about the same length as the snake, but far heavier and stronger. They bit the snake and immediately swam in the opposite direction of Leviathan, forcibly tearing the serpent in two. But the giant snakes that hadn’t entangled Leviathan immediately launched a counterattack. They wrapped around the whales that came to rescue, bit through their abdomens, and burrowed into the whales’ bodies! Leviathan’s roar grew more and more furious, but it did not release the terrifying extreme cold. Caesar thought about it and understood that it was because the whales were still surrounding it.

Each of them thought that Leviathan should be the god of death that leaves no grass growing wherever it passes, but it actually cares about its own whale group even when it faces a powerful enemy.

“What are you waiting for? Once they finish fighting, this ice shelf will be destroyed! Are you planning to swim home?” Finger yelled.

Finger was right; the ice shelf was riddled with cracks and poised to crumble. Whether the whales would crush the snakes or the snakes would crush the whales remained uncertain, but the death of the three spectators was practically certain.

But Caesar could only smile bitterly. With such violent shaking, it was difficult for them to stand upright on the ice, let alone run.

“Damn it!” said Jude Mai, “The long-wave transmitter is still in there!”

Caesar turned his head and saw that the research station was sinking into the ice shelf bit by bit due to the vibration. The ice shelf was about to be destroyed by these monsters, and the load-bearing frame buried in the ice shelf was of course useless.

Decades ago, it was predicted that this research station would sink into the icy sea, and today it was finally coming true. But they hadn’t had time to find the long-wave transmitter. In theory, the device was still inside the research station, too large to be carried around. Even if the expedition team destroyed it to prevent others from finding it, they should at least have been able to find the wreckage.

Caesar ran back.

“Boss! A long-wave transmitter is not worth it!” Finger shouted behind him.

Caesar pretended not to hear. Jiude Mai was stunned for a moment, then ran after him. Finger was so anxious that he jumped up and down, then gritted his teeth and rushed in.

The three men searched different areas, opening every door and cabinet, hoping to find the massive radio. But they’d already searched every nook and cranny, more than once. Even if the research station was far larger than they’d previously suspected, a structure built on the Arctic ice cap would inevitably conserve space. Its overall structure was immediately apparent, and the sole basement was simply reserved for the diesel generator. One reason the long-wave radio, despite its exceptional weather resistance, was so rarely used was its sheer size.

The antenna array of a long-wave transmitter was typically a tower-like metal frame strung together by dense steel cables, and its size must be at least one-quarter the transmission wavelength. Assuming the long-wave wavelength transmitted by the long-wave communication equipment at this research station is 1,000 meters, the shortest possible wavelength, it would require an antenna array with a diameter of 250 meters. Caesar and his team initially mistakenly believed that the large dish antenna was the antenna of the long-wave transmitter, but after careful consideration, they realized that this was not the case. They did not need to be experts in radio engineering; basic physics knowledge alone could deduce this.

The 250-meter-diameter antenna array, visible from kilometers away on the Arctic ice sheet, could not possibly have been installed at this research station. Yet, the expedition team had indeed sent signals from this research station.

The deep sea had become a bloody battlefield. Caesar could hear the hissing of snakes and the roar of whales. He could even imagine the scene of a giant snake drilling through the whale’s belly and taking out its internal organs, and the scene of the whale’s teeth crushing the giant snake’s bones.

Leviathan’s song grew louder and louder, but it must have been injured, as its movements became increasingly erratic. It didn’t know how to rid itself of these terrifying parasites. Although its strong body prevented it from suffering the same fate as other whales, if one giant snake tore a hole in its abdomen and entered, others would follow.

In their imagination, Leviathan was such a terrifying and difficult-to-defeat opponent, but it was actually at a disadvantage against the snakes. Perhaps it was just like the legend, where a mouse could kill an elephant by crawling into its trunk.

But why did the snakes attack Leviathan? They even displayed remarkable intelligence while attacking Leviathan. This was a premeditated ambush. The snakes had entrenched themselves there knowing Leviathan would arrive. So why was Leviathan here? It couldn’t possibly be looking for the longwave transmitter.

The station shook violently, followed by a distinct feeling of falling. The ice shelf further collapsed, and the entire first floor of the station sank into the ice shelf.

“It will be too late if we don’t leave now!” Jude Mai yelled.

“Found this thing!” Finger dragged a heavy wooden box into the hall.

Jude Mai leaped from the second floor and kicked open the lid of the wooden box. A circuit board, crisscrossed with diodes, was fixed to the inside of the box. All the markings were in Russian. This was a custom-made device, non-standard, with no manual. Furthermore, it was so old that Jude Mai couldn’t tell if it was a longwave transmitter.

“Where did you find it?” asked Jude Mai.

“Do you really want to know?” Finger asked a strange question.

Jiude Mai was stunned.

“It wasn’t hidden at all, it was covered in a pile of snake poop. You know animals poop when they’re dying.”

Jiude Mai felt nauseous and couldn’t help but dry heave a few times. When they entered the research station, they had indeed seen several large piles of snake excrement. Considering the size of the snakes, the volume was quite astonishing. Instinctively, she had walked around them, neglecting to check what was underneath. It was a relief that Finger was so attentive that he even scooped up the snake poop to examine it. His thinking was truly extraordinary.

“It’s not as disgusting as you think. The poop has been frozen hard, just like the chocolate wrapped around the biscuits. You can pick it off with your hands.” Finger patted Jiude Mai on the back.

Thinking that the warm big hand might have just picked up the snake’s poop, Jiude Mai retched several times.

At this time, Caesar arrived. He was the only one among these people who could speak Russian fluently. His eyes lit up after reading the markings on the circuit board.
