“Let’s talk about it when we can really dig it out.” Jiude Mai grabbed the fire axe from Finger’s hand and knocked it on the scales of a big snake. Sparks flew, like the sound of copper and iron striking each other.

Their scales are hard to begin with, and they haven’t completely thawed yet.

“This stuff isn’t enough,” said Mai Jude. “We also need to look for things like chainsaws and acetylene torches.”

Over the next few hours, three men, dressed in plastic raincoats, resembling movie-starving slashers, dismantled all the giant snakes with enlarged bellies, pulling out two large tuna and three carcasses. Several other large snakes were simply fat, and the only material removed was dark yellow fatty tissue. The person truly directing this work was Mai Jude. Finger vomited several times, and Caesar couldn’t help it either. Only Mai Jude remained impassive, as if she weren’t actually flesh and blood, but rather lumberjacks.

Just as Jude Mai expected, the corpses still retained their appearance when they were alive, and one could even see the horrified expressions on their faces before they died.

“This is Ralph.” Jude Mai watched the third human body being dragged out of the giant snake’s esophagus and finally nodded.

Ralph was a thin middle-aged man. His cold-proof clothing had been partially dissolved by the snake’s acid, along with his backpack.

Mai Jude’s target was precisely the backpack covered in mucus, from which she pulled out a notebook covered in lizard skin.

“Ralph was a rigorous archaeologist who has received the most rigorous professional training, but he was also a lover of mysticism, so he was regarded as a heretic by the orthodox archaeological community. He had a habit of taking notes and always writes down the most important things in a notebook he carries with him so that he could organize them into a paper later.” Jiude Mai wiped the mucus off the cover of the notebook. Fortunately, it was placed in a tightly sealed bag, otherwise something as fragile as paper would not have survived.

The notebook was opened, and they returned to the perspective of the expedition team to rewatch the mysterious expedition.

The notebook’s contents were comprehensive, but primarily in the form of handouts, with annotations only where necessary to explain Ralph’s academic thoughts. Although it had been agreed that these contents belonged to Mai Jiude, she nonetheless calmly read through it with Caesar under the lamp. Finger, meanwhile, sat on the tail of a giant snake, drinking to drown the nausea in his chest.

“…It was a calm day with only a small amount of ice on the sea. We followed our employer’s instructions and continued across the Barents Sea…”

“…This will be the most important Arctic expedition in human history since Peary reached the North Pole. We will not only explore the world above the ice, but also focus on the deep sea beneath the ice…”

“…We have been following a group of narwhals for two days and have not found anything worthwhile. Respecting our employer’s request, we will turn northwest, pass the Spitsbergen Islands, and enter the Greenland Sea…”

“…I have to admit, I don’t like this tyrannical employer, but I don’t regret accepting this offer. It’s opened up a new world for me…”

“…We encountered the thickest sea fog I’ve ever seen in my entire sailing career. Just as my employer had said, we’d encounter problems beyond our ability to solve. Our communications and navigation equipment completely failed in the fog, which was as thick as liquid. Our sonar detected a massive swarm of organisms swimming beneath us. Those who hadn’t seen the signals with their own eyes wouldn’t believe it; it was a bustling metropolis!”

“After dropping anchor at the location designated by our employer, we conducted underwater exploration and recovered two metal fragments, which will be deciphered by linguists.”

“Most people didn’t believe the linguist’s interpretation! We even argued about it, but his interpretation was exactly like what the employer had predicted.”

Jiude Mai’s expression became more serious. Caesar gave her a cold look but said nothing. Finger noticed the subtle change in the atmosphere and came over to watch.

“I remember saying I didn’t like this tyrannical employer, but the devil always knows the secrets of the world. We decided to continue sailing north. I want to see the island with my own eyes.”

“Today the water is an emerald green. We suspected it was teeming with green microorganisms, but tests showed no such presence. I feel like an Arab sailing the same seas that Sinbad once explored.”

“Panic spread among some people, and we had to imprison the leader, Mr. Campbell, in his own cabin. He said we were accepting the will of the devil. But before scientific truth, both God and the devil must kneel.”

“The aurora came, rushing over our bow like a tide. Oh my God, it was the door to heaven!”

“We sailed on the glass, the boat cut the sea surface into wounds, the boundary between the sky and the sea merged together. My own words cannot describe this scene.”

“I feel like I’m King Arthur who sailed here, and even death can’t chase me here.”

The next few pages of notes were missing, having been torn away by someone, and the jagged cracks showed the haste with which they were torn.

“I’ve been to God’s place and witnessed the insignificance of humanity. I’ve touched God’s body, but didn’t ask for His forgiveness. I stole His heart, a crime I committed for humanity. My employer is the devil, who wants to open the door to God’s kingdom. But the day God awakens will be the end of humanity!”

This passage was written on the last page of a notebook. Whereas the previous pages were all scholarly descriptions, here they became the ravings of a madman, yet the handwriting wasn’t a frantic, scribbled mess, but rather precise, stroke by stroke, as if printed, like the way medieval monks copied scriptures.

Caesar turned his head to look at Jiude Mai. Jiude Mai took two steps back, shook her long hair, and put her hands on her hips. “Do we fight here? Or do we fight outside?”

According to the notebook she found herself, she was indeed the mastermind behind the incident. The expedition team did not find Valhalla by accident, but landed on the island step by step according to the employer’s instructions. However, at the last moment, they did not follow the employer’s requirements, but “stole the heart of God.”

Considering what Snow said about the iron box oozing with blood, the heart should be inside. At this point, they obtained information that could confirm each other.

Finger also reached behind his butt, seemingly trying to touch a weapon, but no one knew who he would point his gun at.

The temperature in the hall seemed to drop to zero degrees in an instant.

But Caesar just glanced at her and looked away, “No, not you.”
