Dragon Raja 5

“I don’t know. I haven’t thought about it.” Lu Mingfei concentrated on rowing.

“Actually, it’s really nice to have her with you. Your sister is just average in terms of looks, but she’s a good fighter, reliable, and a tough person who doesn’t talk much. Besides the fact that she’s clearly stated she’s not interested in you, I can’t really find any other flaws.”

“How come you know that too?” Lu Mingfei subconsciously gripped the oars tightly, feeling the urge to kill someone to silence them for revealing his secret.

“Chu Zihang knows everything, how could I not know? I’m on call 24 hours a day. When you two were having a heart-to-heart talk, I was sitting on the coffee table next to you.”

Lu Mingfei was silent for a while and continued rowing. “This is my business. It has nothing to do with her.”

“What about Chu Zihang? This matter has nothing to do with your senior sister, but it is definitely related to Chu Zihang, right? Why should I accompany you to the dangerous place just because this guy is as safe as your beloved senior sister?” Finger chattered on and on.

“It seems like it’s high tide now?” Lu Mingfei suddenly asked.

Finger was stunned for a moment. “Yes, in this season, the tide in Tokyo Bay is high at this time of year.”

“If the tide is coming in, there’s no need for me to row, right? The tide will push me back to shore after a while anyway.”

“That’s right. You won’t be able to go much faster in the ocean. It will only take two hours to reach the shore.”

“Then I don’t need navigation, right?” Lu Mingfei held the phone in his hand.

“Hey, hey! Do you have any humanity? Call them out if you need them, but locked them up in a dark room when you don’t…”

Finger didn’t have time to finish his words because Lu Mingfei had already firmly and decisively pressed the power button.

Just like what was said in an old movie, the world suddenly became quiet, the sky and the sea were vast, the waves were roaring, and there was a sense of comfort and beauty.

Lu Mingfei sat there for a moment, then suddenly remembered that there should be food on the lifeboat. After searching around for a while, he found the food storage area. Most of it was compressed vegetables and biscuits, but he also unexpectedly found some beef jerky.

He found a comfortable place to lie down on the lifeboat, tore open a bag of beef jerky, put his feet up, and followed the ups and downs of the boat, as if he had become one with the sea.

It had been a long time since he had the opportunity to waste time freely like this. It was as if he had returned to a long time ago, on the rooftop of that old building, gazing out at the CBD in the distance for hours, his thoughts drifting back to the past five thousand years, and of course, the girls in his class…

Why did you leave without saying goodbye?

Perhaps he was afraid of the accidental transformation into a dragon. If he acted with Nuonuo and his senior brother, he might hurt them.

Perhaps he instinctively felt that Black Swan Harbor was a dangerous place and that he might never return.

Perhaps he felt that Nuonuo had been with him long enough, and that she should return to where she belonged, where someone was waiting for her. And to a Dragon King-level monster like Lu Mingfei, a ruthless and quiet girl was ultimately just an ordinary girl, and there was very little she could do.

But what finally made him make this decision was that mysterious phone call.

Almost 24 hours ago, on a dark night like this, in that quiet corner bookstore, he stood there amid the sound of rustling pages, holding the receiver of that old-fashioned telephone.

There was a long silence, as if something would break if I spoke, soap bubbles, the environment, or some long-lost warmth.

It was the man’s voice, gentle yet slightly hoarse, the result of years of field archaeology; it was difficult for someone exposed to the elements to maintain a clear, transparent voice. It was also his tone, steady, never fluctuating dramatically, yet reassuring and convincing.

“What’s in the wheat field?” Lu Mingfei finally broke the silence. His voice was a little hoarse and cautious.

“What?” The man on the other end of the phone seemed stunned.

“I asked you what was in the wheat field when we were little.”

“Oh, I see. It’s Frog Dad, Frog Mom, and Frog Son.”

“There’s a girl next door. What’s her name?”

“Danyang? You mean the one you played with when you were little? She has an older sister named Mingyang.”

“Why didn’t the little white rabbit beat the little turtle?”

“Because they’re competing in swimming.”

The father and son asked and answered each other calmly, their voices very soft, like intentional or unintentional whispers while cooling off on a summer night.

The long-forgotten summer nights suddenly came to life in these questions and answers, bright and lively, just like the glossy green leaves on the old locust trees, even with the coolness of dew.

A long, long time ago, really a long, long time ago, when they were still living in the staff quarters of a research institute, on hot summer nights, because they couldn’t afford the air-conditioning fee or even buy one, people often gathered by the river to cool off, like a midsummer night picnic.
