Dragon Raja 5

“That’s about enough. My alcohol tolerance is really just this much. Dad, can we start talking now?” Lu Mingfei put down his glass, breaking the silence.

Lu Lincheng exhaled a breath of alcohol, remained silent for a moment, and then slowly began to speak, “This is a safe haven, humanity’s last safe haven, because war is coming.”

“war?”

“A war with the dragons, a full-scale war.” Lu Lincheng sighed softly. “The dragons have been dormant for tens of thousands of years, and humans know very little about them. They are not just those cocoons buried underground or hidden in the sea, hatching when the time is right and then causing chaos. Some dragons live in human society, disguising themselves as humans. You could even say that they are the ones who educate humans, but humans are not their students, but slaves. Your mother and I have been engaged in this research, searching for those dragon rulers who coexist with humans. They are very well hidden, and it was difficult to locate them in the vast human society. However, big data has helped us to make some progress.

We have built a model to analyze the total amount of social wealth each year, and there is always an invisible black hole in this model that swallows up a lot of wealth. It is those dragon rulers who have secretly taken this wealth. It may be stored in many accounts in major banks in the form of money, or it may have been turned into weapons and stockpiled in warehouses, or turned into secret bases hidden in Nibelungen. When that dragon-controlled kingdom grows strong enough, that will be the time for them to wage war against humanity.”

“You mean the monarchs of the world’s dark side?”

“It seems you already know something. Yes, we call them the monarchs of the dark side of the world. The Secret Society might be able to deal with those brainless dragon kings, but they have no chance against the monarchs of the dark side of the world. The hardest enemies for humanity to defeat are not those with wings and claws, but enemies from within humanity itself.”

How will the war begin?

“You studied at Cassel College and received the best education in the world, you should be able to figure it out.”

“The division of humanity begins with regional conflicts, then wars between nations, and finally world wars,” Lu Mingfei said slowly.

“Continue.” Lu Lincheng stared into his eyes.

“Hundreds of millions of people will die, all countries will overspend, and then they will secretly or openly seize power, run for president, or become warlords in a region.”

“They can also use super-powerful incantations to create regional disasters. Humanity will yearn for a powerful savior, and they are the best at masquerading as powerful saviors. They step into the limelight, re-erecting giant bronze pillars on the earth, building new cities around those pillars, and constructing sacred buildings that are very tall, inhabited by dragon monarchs. Humanity worships them and seeks their help when they encounter problems,” Lu Lincheng said slowly. “The world would returns to the age of the dragons.”

“It’s a war that’s very likely to be lost, so humanity needs a safe haven.” “Let me show you around, show you this safe haven, and let you say hello to our neighbors. After the war, these may be the last free people in the world.” Lu Lincheng stood up, grabbed a heavy coat, and threw it at Lu Mingfei.

The gate at the entrance slowly opened, and the wind swirled fine snow in their faces. In the white world before them stood one Soviet-style building after another.

The buildings surround a central courtyard, which was paved with large cement tiles, but gaps were left for planting tall spruce trees. These trees only had long branches and leaves at the top, so from below they appear as natural pillars, while looking up they appear as a dense forest suspended in the air.

“It looks a lot like where my family used to live, but we planted sycamore trees,” Lu Mingfei said in surprise, “and we never had this much snow.”

“As a shelter from the wind, the Khrushchev Building is a very practical building. Our primary consideration was not comfort, but rather accommodating as many people as possible within a limited space,” said Lu Lincheng. “When drawing the design plans, I thought of the building where my family lived when I was a child, and I used that building as the prototype for the design. The heat emitted by the building complex can ensure the basic survival temperature of the spruce trees, and pipe heating are laid underground so that the soil will not freeze in the coldest season, and the spruce roots will not be damaged. In turn, they help us shelter from the wind and snow, a symbiotic relationship.”

“A symbiotic relationship.” Lu Mingfei looked up at the forest above in amazement; it was like a fairy tale.

“The haven is a near-self-sufficient ecosystem where every life form is symbiotic. We record every pet we introduce to avoid accidentally disrupting the balance of the ecosystem. In other words, as long as our energy supply continues, we don’t need to import any resources from the outside, and this haven can operate for thousands of years,” said Lu Lincheng.

The sound of copper bells grew louder as it approached. Lu Mingfei stared in surprise as four enormous moose pulled a sled through the snow. The moose swayed their heads, and a Saint Bernard with slanted eyes followed beside them.

“Let me introduce you to your savior. After realizing you were lost, it was our clever Lyudmila who led the sled to find you.” Lu Lincheng bent down and patted the Saint Bernard’s head. “Of course, our strong Paul, Nicholas, Peter, and Alexander also played a crucial role.” Lu Lincheng then raised his hand to pat the antlers of the moose. “Every large animal here has its own name; they are all our friends.”

“Those moose are all named after the Tsars,” Lu Mingfei said.

“The other group is all the names of former Soviet leaders,” Lu Lincheng chuckled. “We didn’t send a mechanized unit to pick you up; instead, we deployed this big friend, hoping to give you a surprise. Now, try sitting in it.”

He and his assistant, Natasha, who had come with him, helped Lu Mingfei onto the sled. Moose carried them through the huge complex of buildings, like a Tsar inspecting his northern territories with his crown prince.

Passersby occasionally walked by, mostly young boys and girls, carrying thick books and documents, jogging along against the wind and snow. The wind blew off a girl’s hat, revealing a head of long, shimmering golden hair. As she adjusted her hair, her eyes met Lu Mingfei’s for a fleeting moment. Her skin was as white as snow, and her deep blue eyes were captivating. She must be a Ukrainian or Belarusian girl; even in a place known for its beautiful women, she possessed the looks of a movie star.

“Considering the issue of human survival, most of the residents of the haven are very young. There are mixed-race people as well as pure humans. Their genetic distribution is very wide. Basically, you can find the genes of all races in the world here.” Lu Lincheng waved to greet the passers-by. He spoke to some people in Russian, some in English, and even asked someone in Chinese.
