Dragon Raja 3; Chapter 74: Ace Combination (7)

Dragon Raja 3

From the tone of Chisei’s words, it seemed like his concern wasn’t whether the principal’s precious Gulfstream would be shot down by an F-16 fighter jet, but whether the BMW might turn around and crush the tank.

“Just airburst rockets, giving them a scare, over.” The pilot cut off communications.

“10, 9, 8, 7…” The police chief began his countdown.

“The Sleipnir’s exhaust flared visibly, and after a short burst of acceleration, it suddenly pulled up, diving like a raptor towards the F-16s. The F-16 pilots hadn’t yet decided whether to evade or make radio contact when the Sidewinder airburst missile was already ignited and fired. The two F-16s were forced to stop abruptly in mid-air, while the Sleipnir, blazing with bright exhaust, instantly accelerated to supersonic speed and vanished into the clouds above. The Gulfstream, from intruding into Japanese airspace to messing with the fighter jets, then dashing away in a trail of smoke, made it look as effortless as hunting in its own territory. The ace pilots of the Self-Defense Force were left staring at the contrails in shock.

“Wasn’t the other side an ace pilot? How did they get shaken off so easily?” Lu Mingfei watched in awe.

“Aces come in different levels,” Caesar replied, “The Sleipnir’s pilot was an ace test pilot for the US Air Force; he was the first to test fly the prototype F-22.”

“And this kind of guy got recruited by our college?”

“Apparently, he was expelled from the Air Force after a $1.2 billion prototype crashed due to reckless flying. He ended up becoming the principal’s personal pilot.”

“Holy crap! The principal’s guts must be something else to hire a pilot with a record that disastrous. Isn’t he afraid this guy will crash the Sleipnir too?”

“Oh, a wily old fox like the principal has his ways,” Caesar shrugged. “Test piloting is a dangerous job, but it usually comes with parachutes. The principal just removed the parachutes from Sleipnir for his pilot.”

“Could he be more of a scumbag?” Lu Mingfei muttered.

At that moment, they were hurtling down the road amidst violent bumps. As soon as the Sleipnir ignited its engines, Chisei floored the accelerator, and the black Hummer roared like a beast. Their target scattered in different directions, all at high speeds, making it impossible for the police snipers to aim accurately. The Hummer bounced along the uneven salt flats, with the two passengers in the back seat almost taking flight, their heads occasionally hitting the car ceiling. And if things couldn’t get any worse, the police cars chased along the highway, shooting as they pursued. The police were using tracer bullets, and Lu Mingfei watched as bright trails crisscrossed in front, behind, and around the car.

“Isn’t this too thrilling?” Lu Mingfei screamed.

“It sure is,” Chisei said expressionlessly, “If I told you this car wasn’t bulletproof, would you find it even more thrilling?”

The Hummer jumped over the shoulder and returned to the highway. It finally stabilized a bit after leaving the salt flats, but the police cars followed closely like a pack of wolves, gradually closing in. While they were jumping over the salt flats, it had been chaotic, but the police cars couldn’t get onto the salt flats, and thus could only follow and shoot from afar on the highway. But on the highway, it was the police cars’ turf—their modified high-horsepower vehicles had acceleration comparable to Porsches, and high-speed chases weren’t the Hummer’s forte. Chisei swerved left and right, trying to use the Hummer’s weight to push the police cars away. Lu Mingfei’s ears were filled with the harsh sound of metal scraping against metal, and each collision had him rolling around the wide Hummer seats like a ball. Fortunately, Caesar and Chu Zihang on either side blocked him from serious harm; otherwise, he would’ve been knocked bloody by now.

“Damn! Did your guys really just strip the police chief’s mistress for a nyotaimori, or did they do something worse to his wife?” Caesar yelled. “This guy’s out for our lives!”

“I’m not sure. If Yasha and Crow did do something, they wouldn’t tell Sakura. But I doubt it. Yasha and Crow are both into younger girls—they’re not into older women!” Chisei slammed on the brakes, and the police car behind smashed into the Hummer’s rear bumper.

The police car spun out of control, temporarily blocking the others. But more police cars split left and right to bypass the obstacle, trying to surround the Hummer. Snipers continued to fire suppressive shots, creating hole after hole in the Hummer’s body—the side mirror had long been blown off, and the glass next to Chisei was shattered. If it weren’t for his constant zig-zagging route, the snipers would’ve blown out their tires long ago. A flash of fire streaked over the car roof, exploding a dozen meters ahead, bathing the windshield in a fiery red glow, countless tiny shrapnel embedded in the hood.

“They’ve brought in rocket launchers—military-grade equipment. The Self-Defense Forces must’ve joined in,” Caesar said, glancing at the shrapnel.

“That’s way too much! At least give us a chance here—consider if someone in this car might want to surrender!” Lu Mingfei protested, dizzy.

“The F-16 was locked on by missiles, even though it was an airburst round. That’s enough to alarm the higher-ups of the Self-Defense Forces. Things are more troublesome now. If we’re caught, it won’t be the police holding us in a station, it’ll be the Self-Defense Forces taking us to a military prison. We wouldn’t get a chance to call a lawyer—they’d send soldiers to interrogate us on which country we were spying for,” Chisei said.

“If you don’t mind, can I borrow the missile launcher for a moment? Let me take out the car with the rocket launcher first,” Caesar started rolling up the sleeves of his kimono.

“You can’t do that!” Chu Zihang said.

Lu Mingfei was really grateful that someone in the group still had a clear head, stopping them from actually launching an armed assault on the police.

“Just use the shotgun! A missile has too large a blast radius—can you ensure no one gets killed?” Chu Zihang started loading the shells.

“Wait a minute! Both the missile and the shotgun count as attacking the police, okay? Once we fire, it’s all violent crime, there’s no difference in the charge!” Lu Mingfei said, at least having some basic legal knowledge.

“Don’t worry. I said the Japanese branch would ensure your safety, and we will.” Chisei said calmly. “This is Japan, our territory. Here, we set the rules.”

“Bold words.” Caesar raised an eyebrow. “I’m quite interested in seeing what the Japanese branch can do.”

Chisei smiled. From the moment they landed, he’d been dealing with these lunatics and their antics, constantly disrupted from his usual rhythm. It was like a samurai duel: one side drawing their sharp sword with utmost concentration, only to face an opponent dancing with a fan, shaking their hips for the audience, leaving the serious warrior at a loss. But now, in this tense situation where every second counted, control had returned to Chisei’s hands. Handling dire situations was his forte, far more so than dealing with clowns.
