Dragon Raja 3; Chapter 51: Black Sea and White Moon (3)

Dragon Raja 3

“Brother, you’re overreacting. I don’t pay much attention to your late-night, shirtless heart-to-hearts with Finger over red wine. I see it and forget it; I certainly don’t think it means anything…”

“Oh God! Please strike this shameless devil before me with a thunderbolt!” Lu Mingfei clasped his hands in prayer.

A flash of lightning streaked across the night sky, followed by a deafening roll of thunder.

“Damn it!” Lu Mingfei shivered from the scare but still grumbled, “Strike harder next time, you missed just now, God!”

“It’s going to rain,” Lu Mingze said softly, looking up at the sky. “If I really get transferred, another agent might come find you, right? I hope your next little brother will be more capable and make you like him enough to trust him with your soul.”

“Actually… I don’t really hate you… I’m just a little scared,” Lu Mingfei thought quietly, but outwardly he jumped up, dusting the ice from his pants. “Well, I hope this is our last goodbye, and may we never meet again. If you’re leaving, bring a sister next time—thin waist, long legs. No need for more farewells; I wish you a long journey, with trees falling endlessly, crossing the Yang Pass with no old friends, rain soaking bones, blood staining the grass, the moon cold on the sands, and ghosts guarding corpses.”

“Don’t be in such a hurry to leave, brother… Are you really going to abandon me? If you’d just be generous enough to sell me another quarter of your soul, I could stay in this region,” Lu Mingze turned to him, a pitiful expression on his face as he clung to Lu Mingfei’s coat. “North America is a promising region, but what if they send me to the Sahara? No one in sight for days, only camels and camel grass to make wishes. My life would be ruined. If nothing else, think about the times I risked my life for you, helping you defeat two Dragon Kings. And remember, I even helped you flirt with Nono for free! We may not have fought side by side or been classmates, but we did work together to win a girl’s heart—can’t you be a little less heartless?”

“Bullshit! Stop trying to play the pity card!” Lu Mingfei finally understood the little devil’s tricks, wanting nothing more than to kick that cute but deceitful face. “I’ve already said my life is fine; I’m doing well except for needing a girlfriend. If you must hate someone, hate yourself for not being born female. If you were willing to stick around and be my girlfriend, maybe I’d consider it!”

“Although I wasn’t born female, with my powers I could easily cross-dress and enter your dreams to start a forbidden romance,” Lu Mingze said seriously.

“Ugh, ugh, ugh!” Lu Mingfei’s face turned colors as he jumped back a step, afraid that the little devil really had some twisted interest in him.

“Seems like you really do like Nono, and you can’t stand my frail charms,” Lu Mingze said.

“Don’t even joke about ‘frail charms’—that’s at least for girls. You’re one-hundred-percent a guy, even if you don’t look like it because you’re young!”

“Then why not try to stop Nono and Caesar’s wedding? They haven’t gotten married yet, so it’s still possible to change things.” Lu Mingze’s expression suddenly changed, a hint of coldness beneath his smile. “As long as something hasn’t happened yet, I can still change it. A wedding that hasn’t occurred is still cancelable for me. An engagement is not something unbreakable, and as for everlasting love—it’s the most unreliable thing in the world. If you make a wish to me, I can still rewrite your destiny.”

Lu Mingfei’s heart jolted as he regained his clarity. In his eyes, Lu Mingze transformed from a pitiful sales agent back into that devil who held power over the world.

He took off the warm wool scarf and threw it along with the hand warmer onto the ice. “Save your sugar-coated bullets. Stop tempting me. It won’t work! My will is firm!”

“Your will is firm?” Lu Mingze smiled.

“I thought about making a wish to you to take Nono away,” Lu Mingfei stood up. “But then I realized something—Nono wouldn’t like it if I sold her out. If I make a wish for you to take her, that would be betraying her. I won’t do something she wouldn’t like.”

He turned and walked away, heading in the direction opposite of the white moon. He had no idea where he was going—he just knew there was no point in talking to Lu Mingze anymore. They were two completely different beings… No, the other was a devil… It was a waste of time to keep chatting. He wasn’t moved by Lu Mingze’s offer; he didn’t need an emotionless Nono by his side. He would rather Nono happily marry Caesar. Even if the Nono by his side would be obedient, gentle, and wear that alluring see-through dress and white lace stockings, singing to him, “Mingfei, Mingfei, I love you like a mouse loves rice”… No, he wasn’t tempted… He couldn’t be tempted… Giving in would be a betrayal of himself and a betrayal of Nono…

With a sudden splash, the fish that Lu Mingze had been waiting for finally took the bait.

Instinctively, Lu Mingfei turned back and saw Lu Mingze raising his fishing rod high in the moon’s reflection, the fishing line pulling something from the water… a black dragon! The massive creature thrashed and roared within the moon’s reflection!

What the hell! He hadn’t expected the little devil to be fishing for a dragon—a black dragon!

Before Lu Mingfei could scream, Lu Mingze had already grabbed the dragon by the neck and stuffed it into the small basket at his feet. No one knew how he managed to fit such a large creature into that tiny basket, but he did it effortlessly.

“Alright, we have something to eat today. One part for braising, one part stir-fried with scallions, and another for grilling.”

“But after taking the deity of this sea, the tide will soon flood this place, won’t it?”

The sound of waves surged. Lu Mingfei turned around, trembling, and saw a waterfall spilling down the edge of the white moon, the entire moonlight turning into a torrential rain. The ice beneath his feet began to shatter, and black seawater gushed from the cracks, colliding with the moonlight-turned-water. The entire world was submerged in seawater; the once bright white moon was now pitch black. He had nowhere to escape, and could only watch as the tides engulfed him… He sank into the black sea, instinctively calling out a certain name.

Lu Mingfei suddenly sat up in bed, drenched in cold sweat. The scene of the sea flooding the world seemed to still be before his eyes, so vivid it didn’t feel like just a dream.

The dorm room was quiet; there was no sound of Finger’s snoring. Finger had received special permission from the Principal to do his graduation internship, and after completing it, even this perpetual underachieving senior could graduate. Would this dorm remain with just him alone, or would someone new move in?

Nono was getting married, Finger was about to graduate, even the little devil was being transferred… In the end, it was just him left alone.

He fumbled around for a glass of water, hoping it would help him stop overthinking. The little devil rarely met him through this kind of “dream visitation,” and everything in the dream seemed to hint that something big was going to happen… Thinking about what was the core message in the little devil’s roundabout words—firstly, the little devil was going on a month-long vacation, so he couldn’t serve him hand and foot. Secondly, he himself was going on a business trip… to Japan?
