Dragon Raja 3; Chapter 355: Family Dinner (16)

Dragon Raja 3

So far, that beautiful, soft prize was still in his hands. He was still the winner.

He didn’t realize how much he had changed. The temperature of his blood seemed to rise, and power flowed from it into every muscle. He didn’t know when, but he had become as hot as the black-clad servant. The rain on his body turned into white steam.

“Anyone who tries to take something from you is our enemy!”

“No one remembers the dead, so live—grit your teeth and live!”

“I hate it when someone steals… what belongs to me.”

“When I return to this world, all traitors will die!”

Lu Mingze’s voice echoed in his mind, like a mad poet or an actor reciting lines. At some point, the demon’s hatred for the world had seeped into Lu Mingfei’s thoughts. The moment he heard the clacking of the wooden clappers, that venom had been unleashed, tightly gripping him.

He was subconsciously fulfilling Lu Mingze’s will. He controlled this Lamborghini, which meant he held the power of violence. Anyone who dared approach him—he would crush them.

If he could just get out of these narrow, twisting streets, he would win. With the Lamborghini’s speed, few could keep up with him on an open road. He crushed another motorcycle against the wall and looked for an exit.

Suddenly, Erii stirred in his arms, tightly wrapping her arms around his neck. Her body was cold, her gaze vacant, and she couldn’t stop trembling.

Lu Mingfei tried to shake her off, rough in his movements. Earlier, he had forcibly pinned Erii down, gripping her neck tightly to keep her from moving, leaving visible bruises on her skin. But now, Erii clung to him tightly. Despite her tall, slender frame, she curled up small, like a baby in his arms.

Once again, those fragmented images invaded his mind—snowy landscapes, a boy carrying a girl along a dark railroad. The girl huddled on the boy’s back, using his body warmth to stay warm, like a small child.

After a searing wave of pain, Lu Mingfei’s awareness returned, summoned by the sound of quiet sobbing. Erii was crying softly. He had always thought she was mute, but now she was crying—crying so fearfully it left a hollow feeling in his chest.

The Lamborghini crashed head-on into an oncoming Toyota. Lu Mingfei’s head slammed into the steering wheel, and blood dripped from his forehead, trailing into his eyes. In those few seconds of disorientation, the other car had appeared in front of him and collided head-on. The young men inside the Toyota celebrated, clapping hands, thinking they had successfully blocked the Lamborghini.

Erii kept crying, but only Lu Mingfei could hear her faint sobs. He groped to hold her tighter, realizing that she, too, had seen something—probably the same terrifying hallucinations. The clapping of the wooden clappers had caused mental contamination for both of them, trapping them in shared hallucinations, struggling to escape from a nightmarish hell.

Suddenly, Lu Mingfei remembered why he was there. He wasn’t competing with thugs for a prize. Erii wasn’t prey—she was a living, breathing girl.

His mission was to protect her. That was his responsibility. He had to be brave, just like Caesar, who had once risked everything by driving the Viper into a wall when they were in real danger. Erii was the key to resolving the White Empress incident. This was the vital clue they had fought for on the battlefield of Tokyo—the only clue they had. He could stop the car now, hand the girl over, and say, “I didn’t do anything. I brought her out as is. Please don’t kill me. Let’s all be friendly.”

But even a coward has some dignity. If he did that, wouldn’t all the blood spilled by his comrades have been for nothing? And then there was the girl in his arms, holding onto him tightly, clearly wanting him to protect her, to take her away from this hellish place.

When a beautiful girl says, “Take me away,” could you really reply, “Sorry, those guys over there with the knives also want to take you, so I’ll let them have you. I have some things to do. Have fun with them tonight”?

Some things, if you do them, you won’t be able to live with yourself.

He freed one hand to hold Erii tighter and whispered, “Cover your ears.”

He adjusted the rearview mirror toward himself and stared at the somewhat foolish-looking face in the reflection. Taking a deep breath, he clearly articulated, “Lu Mingfei! Don’t die!”

In the mirror, the reflection slowly opened its eyes. It was a strange sensation—he knew he was already awake, but it felt like he was watching himself open his eyes again—eyes ancient, solemn, noble, and filled with a golden hue.

The figure in the mirror spoke in a voice as majestic as an ancient emperor, “Lu Mingfei, do not die.”

He couldn’t tell if the person in the mirror was himself or Lu Mingze. He could feel the kingly authority and iron will reflecting back through the mirror, imposing themselves on him, as if a command had been forcibly etched into his mind.

Do not die. He commanded himself not to die!

The Lamborghini roared to life once more. Its engine was located in the rear, unlike regular cars, so the collision hadn’t destroyed it. Now, this violent machine was back in action, smashing against the Toyota in front of it.

The young men in the Toyota had just drawn their blades and were about to leap out, but the furious Lamborghini sent them reeling with its impact. The Toyota’s engine couldn’t match the Lamborghini’s. In a direct collision, it would surely lose. The driver pulled the handbrake, trying to stop Lu Mingfei from pushing through.

Lu Mingfei reversed a few meters and slammed forward again, sending debris flying.

The motorcycles that had been trailing behind finally caught up. The riders sized up the situation. Thanks to the timely appearance of the Toyota, the Lamborghini was blocked. If they let Lu Mingfei break through the roadblock, they’d lose their chance. Realizing this, they started to help their competitors in the Toyota. They zoomed past the Lamborghini one by one, slashing at Lu Mingfei’s back as they sped by.

“I never wanted… to be a hero,” Lu Mingfei muttered weakly.

The command forced into his mind was taking effect. His body was healing at an astonishing speed. Severed tendons and bones emitted faint sounds as they rapidly stopped bleeding and began to mend. But this wasn’t “healing”—it was more like “patching up.” His battered body was repeatedly stitched back together by some supernatural force, only to be torn apart again. This miraculous healing wasn’t without cost. His energy was draining rapidly, as if even his soul was drying up. His senses dulled—he could no longer hear, smell, or even feel. Enduring the searing pain, he focused all his attention on the road ahead, on the headlights of the Toyota, and kept his grip tight on the steering wheel.
