Dragon Raja 3

Taking a handgun from Crow, Chisei shot each of the Death Servitor embryos through the heart.

“These things were being raised,” Crow explained, covering his mouth with a handkerchief. “We found a lot of fish and animal bones in the tank—whole cows and sheep were being thrown in to feed them. There were also Death Servitor corpses, gnawed clean. When these things get hungry, they eat anything.”

Although Crow had been a ruthless bastard in the underworld, even he felt his stomach churn at the sight. He’d taken one look at the tank and nearly vomited the spaghetti he had for dinner. The bottom was filled with bones and decaying organic matter.

Crow motioned for someone to bring over a large metal container, which had already been cut open with an ethylene torch. Inside was a half-transformed human figure, still retaining its legs, its skin pale. It was alive, but had been injected with some kind of sedative, sleeping deeply in the dry ice. Chisei calmly aimed and fired several shots into the back of its head, spilling black blood into the ice. The Death Servitor died in its sleep.

“A few hours ago, we intercepted this cargo that had been sent to the underground dock via a submarine. The people managing the dock didn’t know what was inside, only that it was something important from higher-ups. Apparently, every few days, one of these containers is brought into the building, all through that small submarine. Altogether, they’ve been bringing in dozens of tons of cargo every day,” Sakura explained.

“Maruyama Construction was responsible for building this tower, right?” Chisei asked.

“Yes, they designed and built it themselves, without supervision, since they’re part of the family,” Sakura replied, handing Chisei the prepared documents. “According to the design blueprints, this breeding facility wasn’t supposed to exist. But it must have been built by Maruyama Construction. There’s no doubt about that, since the water source is connected to the Iron Dome’s underground reservoir, which was also one of their projects. No one else could have done it.”

“Should we bring in a few of the key figures from Maruyama Construction for questioning?” Crow cautiously suggested. “I could handle the interrogation with Yasha. You and Sakura don’t even need to be there. Give us a few hours, and I’ll have all the secrets out of them for you.”

“No need,” Chisei said quietly. “Maruyama Construction built this breeding facility, but they don’t control the tower. Once it was completed, it would have been discovered. The only person capable of ordering them to build it, and also controlling the tower, is one person. Go find Tachibana. Tell him I want to meet.”

Yasha and Crow exchanged glances and bowed deeply. Before entering the room, Crow’s earlier rambling had hinted that they had already guessed the true mastermind behind the breeding facility. In the family, the two most powerful individuals were Tachibana and Chisei. They completely trusted Chisei, of course, but they also didn’t dare to doubt Tachibana. Even though he was no longer the head of the family, he had been a hero of the Yamata no Orochi clan. Without Tachibana, the clan wouldn’t have achieved its current status. In the battle against the Oni Clan, he had been the most resolute warrior. But why would he secretly raise Death Servitors, creatures fallen from the Hybrid line?

“Here?” Crow was still covering his nose.

“No, not here. This place disgusts me. Let’s meet in the mural hall. Prepare some strong liquor for me, and some baibu for the fallen brothers. Don’t let them lie there like that.”

“Understood!” Sakura replied quietly.
