Dragon Raja 3

Chisei discarded his empty Thompson and pulled out an M3 submachine gun, the standard issue for American troops in WWII, continuing the onslaught. He understood Caesar’s point—despite the fierce barrage, less than ten Death Servitors had been killed so far, and in that time, they had climbed eight or nine floors. It wouldn’t be long before they reached this level, and once they did, no amount of ammunition would save them. His original plan had been to rely on the gunfire to alert the Execution Bureau members scattered throughout the building, all of whom were Class-A Hybrids. If they came as reinforcements, they could use the terrain to their advantage and destroy the Death Servitors in the elevator shaft. But no one had shown up. It felt like the three of them were the only ones left in the building. Chisei’s phone had been broken during the fight, cutting off all communication. All they could rely on now were the weapons in their hands.

Chu Zihang reloaded a new Sten submachine gun. The loose bullets in his bag were of little use—they didn’t have time to reload magazines. When Caesar was changing ammo boxes, Chu Zihang and Chisei had to dual-wield their guns to prevent the Death Servitors from using the opportunity to climb. The barrels of their guns, unlike the Gatling’s, were starting to glow red from the heat. Overheating had already caused several jams, but it was no surprise given the situation.

The Gatling gun roared back to life as Caesar finished reloading, temporarily alleviating the crisis. Chisei scanned his surroundings as he reloaded, considering whether they could destroy the steel framework of the elevator shaft to send the Death Servitors plummeting to their deaths. The falling steel beams would surely deal fatal damage to the creatures, but the framework supporting the high-speed elevators was so strong that even “King’s Blaze” couldn’t shake it. Chisei abandoned the idea.

Just as he reloaded and was about to start shooting again, he caught a whiff of a strong, fishy smell coming from above!

“Get down!” he roared, but Caesar, fully focused on firing, couldn’t hear him at all. The deafening noise of the Gatling gun drowned out everything, making it impossible for Caesar to use his Kamaitachi Yanling.

Chisei dropped his submachine gun into the elevator shaft and drew his blades, slicing upward. He executed the opening moves of “Reversal Blade Flow” and “Reverse Blade Flow” in quick succession. Cross-shaped arcs of light hung in the air as black blood splattered onto Chisei’s armor.

The Death Servitors were smarter than they had anticipated. While they had focused their fire on the ones directly below, one had circled around from another elevator shaft and launched an attack from above. It had come within a meter of Chisei, as close as someone sitting across a dining table.

The wounded Death Servitor was about to fall into the elevator shaft, but it twisted in midair, its steel-hard tail whipping toward Caesar. Caesar leaned back to dodge, but the tail struck the Gatling gun’s mount. The creature coiled tightly around the heavy machine gun, dragging it down into the elevator shaft with it.

More shadows began to fall from above—there were even more Death Servitors lying in wait.

Chisei moved along the steel beams, swinging his blades to keep the Death Servitors from finding a foothold. Caesar drew his Desert Eagle, firing mercury-core rounds into the bodies of the Death Servitors. These anti-dragon bullets were highly effective against the creatures, causing each one to fall with a cry. The steel beams above, below, and around them were now covered in black and red blood—black from the Death Servitors, and red from Chisei. The one that had ambushed him from above had almost sliced through his shoulder blade. The effects of the Freyja bullets still lingered in his body, leaving him weak, unable to reinforce his bones or muscles. His combat ability was far below what it had been when he fought alongside Caesar and Chu Zihang.

Chu Zihang, wielding an Uzi, tried to help Caesar and Chisei clear the Death Servitors around them, but when he glanced downward, a chill shot through him. In the few seconds without a bullet barrage, the Death Servitors below had climbed rapidly. The nearest one was now less than twenty meters away, and their cries echoed through the elevator shaft like a twisted symphony. If they didn’t stop this next wave, their defense line would completely collapse.

Chu Zihang suddenly knocked over the bag hanging in front of him, and a thousand bullets rained down like brass-colored droplets. He also threw another object into the elevator shaft: a block of C4 plastic explosives with an electronic detonator. He had another bag next to him, filled with more plastic explosives!

The explosives fell twenty meters before detonating. The shockwave and flames, confined by the elevator shaft, could only spread upward or downward. They witnessed the beautiful sight of fiery clouds surging from the depths, and all the bullets exploded simultaneously in the flames. Thousands of projectiles ricocheted within the elevator shaft, and the serpent-like shadows were swallowed by the rain of bullets and fire. Some of the bullets even came close to hitting Caesar and Chisei, but Caesar still shouted “Good!” Chu Zihang’s risky move had come at the cost of nearly injuring them, but being shot by bullets was preferable to dying under the fangs of the Death Servitors. Caesar fired his Desert Eagles in both hands, aiming at a Death Servitor that was screeching with its mouth open, so close that the muzzle flash and the last mercury-core round shot directly into its mouth, destroying its brain. The Death Servitor fell into the darkness with a wretched cry, while Chisei pierced the heart of another.

The three of them stood silently as the black blood slowly oozed from their bodies.

Despite having the advantage in both weapons and terrain, they had only managed to kill around fifteen Death Servitors. These enemies were more terrifying than the Titanoboa. Even the explosion hadn’t killed these dangerous creatures. After falling several floors, they simply used their long tails to wrap around the steel beams and continued climbing, bloody but relentless. Meanwhile, the humans had lost their most crucial weapon—the Gatling gun.

Their position on the steel beams was no longer tenable. They retreated into the building, with Caesar and Chisei pushing heavy iron-wheel shrines to block the elevator doors. Chu Zihang rushed out of the armory, throwing submachine guns and magazines to the others. But they all knew this was merely a stalling tactic. No matter how sturdy the shrine was, it wouldn’t hold for long. The Death Servitors were far stronger than humans, capable of moving anything that people could. Soon, they would break into the mural hall and feast, with Chisei as the main course, Caesar and Chu Zihang as side dishes, and the corpses below as snacks. Even if the Death Servitors didn’t breach the door, they were still doomed—the fire in the mural hall was still burning fiercely. Though there wasn’t much left to fuel the fire, once the oxygen was consumed, they would suffocate.

The three of them leaned against the shrine, gasping for breath. Caesar and Chu Zihang reloaded as quickly as they could, while Chisei stared at the flames in the hall, lost in thought. The mummified remains of the Death Servitors burned down to reveal dark golden bones, glowing brightly like polished bronze.

“How much C4 do you have left?” Chisei suddenly asked.

“Fifteen pounds, but it seems explosions can’t seriously injure them. If C4 can’t hurt them, neither can ‘King’s Blaze,’” Chu Zihang replied.

“The blast won’t hurt them, but fire might be fatal. Look at those mummified Death Servitors—their mermaid oil is highly flammable, and they themselves are the best fuel,” Chisei said.

Chu Zihang hesitated. “But they didn’t ignite during the previous explosion.”

“That’s because they’re still alive, while the mummified ones are dead and dried out. The Death Servitors’ bodies are still full of moisture; they need to be in the fire for a long time before they’ll burn. The mural hall is a completely sealed space—it’s the perfect fire trap!” Chisei shouted.
