The bōsōzoku rushed out of the café in groups, and their first reaction wasn’t to fire their guns—it was to drop to their knees in shock and despair. Their precious cars had been reduced to wrecks by Caesar, who was now driving the Viper over the side panel of a Porsche 911.

The MP7 spat out bright muzzle flashes as Chu Zihang aimed slightly higher, sending bullets into the neon sign of the Mambo internet café. The massive, three-story-tall sign crashed down in front of the café with a deafening roar, shattering countless glass tubes. The boys shrieked and scurried back into the café, dragging their wounded comrades with them. Chu Zihang discarded the empty MP7 and sat back calmly, saying, “Drive.”

In such an open battlefield, wielding lethal weapons, their professionalism and battlefield dominance became evident. Though the reward was generous, the boys had taken on a task far beyond their level.

“Don’t treat me like your chauffeur!” Caesar revved the engine aggressively, waiting for the boys to crawl out from under the neon sign before charging toward their cars with red eyes.

Caesar smirked, finally releasing the brakes and flooring the gas. As their senior, he couldn’t pull too far ahead at the start, or else they wouldn’t even see his tail lights, and the chase would lose its excitement. His plan was to lure the boys about ten kilometers out, to the mountain roads of Saitama Prefecture. On his way to Chizuru Town, he had already experienced that perilous cliffside route, where one wrong move would send a car through the guardrails and off a cliff. Caesar was curious to see how many of these daredevils would still be willing to chase his tail lights when they got there.

Headlights snaked along the mountain road as Caesar glided smoothly around one bend after another, rarely even touching the brakes. Soon, not a single car was left in pursuit. At first, a GTR and a Mercedes C63 AMG had managed to keep up, but once they hit the mountain road in the rain, the other drivers quickly gave up. Whether it was the Viper, GTR, or C63 AMG, these high-powered rear-wheel-drive cars were extremely dangerous on wet roads. The friction between the tires and the road could vanish at any moment, and few dared to take that risk on such a treacherous mountain path.

“Help! I’m gonna die!” Lu Mingfei screamed between bouts of vomiting, the intensity of the ride comparable to that time on the Midgard Serpent.

Chu Zihang didn’t look great either. As someone who only dared to ride the “Winnie the Pooh and Friends” attraction at theme parks, even he found this intense acceleration unsettling.

Only Caesar laughed heartily. “Not bad for a plebeian sports car!”

“Couldn’t you slow down just a little? Didn’t we already shake off the pursuers?” Lu Mingfei groaned, dizzy and nauseous.

“We’re not completely out of danger yet. The Yamata no Orochi headquarters is sending people to Chizuru Town as we speak. We need to get as far away from here as possible before they arrive.” Caesar glanced at the time on the dashboard. “By now, Chizuru Town’s power should be coming back online. Once the power’s restored, Kaguya-hime will be able to track our location.”

“You already disabled this car’s GPS, right?” Chu Zihang asked.

Caesar tossed a small box with two thin wires attached to Chu Zihang. “First thing I did after getting in the car was setting this up. Do you really think I’d let Kaguya-hime track us through GPS?”

But then a blue light on the dashboard blinked, followed by a “beep-beep” sound. The light was shaped like a phone—someone was calling the Viper’s onboard phone system.

“You forgot to disable the car’s phone system too,” Chu Zihang said.

“Damn it!” Caesar frowned.

This wasn’t the kind of call where the car owner’s mom was reminding him to come home for dinner. It was far more likely that Kaguya-hime was using the call to track their location. Caesar had made a critical mistake—not only could the GPS be used to locate the car, but the onboard phone system could do the same. Whether he answered or not, Kaguya-hime would easily determine their location by tracking which signal tower connected the call. This meant they had no choice but to abandon the car and find another way to escape.

Caesar casually pressed the answer button. Since they were already tracked, he didn’t mind exchanging a few words with Kaguya-hime. After surviving an attack and a shootout at the internet café, anyone would want to throw some harsh words around.

However, instead of Kaguya-hime’s familiar synthesized voice, a raspy, sharp male voice came through the speakers. The voice was mocking, cold as a snake’s hiss, speaking in Japanese. Caesar and Chu Zihang could only understand a few words, but Lu Mingfei’s face slowly changed as he listened.

“What’s this guy yammering about?” Caesar asked Lu Mingfei.

“He’s saying Miss Makoto is in their hands,” Lu Mingfei replied, his expression dazed.

Caesar slammed the brakes, and the Viper screeched violently as it spun, finally crashing into the guardrail along the mountain road. Caesar stared straight ahead. The valley below was drenched in heavy rain, and the town of Chizuru lay at its heart, with bright flames now rising from the spot where the Mambo internet café was located.

“Did he say her name?” Caesar asked, his face emotionless.

“Yes, he clearly said ‘Asou Makoto,’” Lu Mingfei confirmed.

Caesar tightened his grip on the steering wheel, his knuckles cracking. “Buckle up. It’s going to be rougher than before.”

Chu Zihang checked his seatbelt, tightened his hold on Lu Mingfei, and loaded the last magazine into his Beretta. Only one person from the bōsōzoku had seen Makoto with them—the striped-suit-wearing underwear thief. Perhaps he had pointed out that Makoto was part of their group, or maybe one of the other female employees had betrayed them. They thought they had shaken off the bōsōzoku, but in reality, the gang had never stopped chasing them. Instead, they had let Caesar’s group believe they had escaped while holding onto a hostage. They waited for Caesar to return to the café, and in the meantime, set the building on fire.

The chilling voice on the phone had ended the call, and the car fell into silence.

“What did he say at the end?” Caesar asked.

“He said to bring his car back to him,” Lu Mingfei replied.

“Won’t keep him waiting long.” Caesar floored the gas, and the Viper surged into the rainstorm, spitting flames from its exhaust as it accelerated to top speed. Caesar activated the NOS tank, squeezing every ounce of power from the Viper’s engine. The car vibrated violently, and the acceleration pinned the three of them against their seats.

The downpour was relentless, but it couldn’t extinguish the raging fire at the Mambo internet café. The old building wasn’t made of steel-reinforced concrete—the walls were wooden beneath the surface. Once ignited, it burned like a bonfire. Even if the fire trucks arrived, they couldn’t extinguish the blaze. Besides, the wrecked cars piled at the street corner blocked the path, preventing any rescue vehicles from getting through.
