Dragon Raja 3

“Corpse Guardians? What are those?” Lu Mingfei asked.

“Legendary beings. Dragon corpses do not decay for many years after death. The dragon clan uses alchemy to create replicas of their own corpses to serve as guardians of their cities. This is a forbidden technology. Even in ancient Egypt, humans tried to use this technique to preserve the bodies of pharaohs and nobles to achieve immortality, but they could only preserve the bodies without maintaining the activity of the nerves and muscles, so they could not create true zombies,” Caesar explained. “If this is a dragon city, then the Corpse Guardians must be buried vertically in the foundations. The blood of the embryo has awakened them. Damn it! Someone must have done this intentionally; the Lenin rushed into this ruin with the embryo to activate this ancient city!”

“Damn it, damn it, damn it!” Lu Mingfei was stunned. “This plot is already developing on its own! I originally thought we were just going to perform an adventure drama, then realized it was a sci-fi drama, and now we’ve entered the realm of zombie movies! But have you considered the protagonist’s feelings? If I had known it was a zombie film, I shouldn’t have driven a submersible here. Even if we weren’t equipped with EVAs, we should have at least had torpedoes and machine guns!”

“There isn’t much time for you to complain.” Chisei was right. If they didn’t eliminate the Corpse Guardians, they wouldn’t have any chance to escape. With too many targets, the sulfur bomb was clearly useless; the only weapon powerful enough was the nuclear power chamber.”

“If Professor Schneider thinks the same way, we have no choice,” Caesar said. “Chu Zihang, you’re responsible for activating the nuclear power chamber. I’ll pilot the submersible, and we’ll drop the nuclear power chamber from above the Lenin, then immediately ascend!”

“What about me? What should I do?” Lu Mingfei asked.

“You don’t need to do anything. Just record a video. If either I or Chu Zihang makes a mistake, let Chisei use the video as a last testament.” Caesar’s hands were moving rapidly across the control panel.

According to Chisei’s plan, they would forcibly pull the submersible out of the water with the safety cable, ascending eight kilometers in just half an hour. Under normal procedures, they would need at least an hour and a half. Increasing the ascent speed threefold would also accelerate the pressure changes threefold, which was a huge test for the submersible’s hull and valve pipes. Caesar was adjusting the legendary equipment to ensure all systems were operating in optimal condition. Chu Zihang had already accessed the electrical control system of the nuclear power chamber, ordering it to withdraw all cadmium rods from the reactor. Without the cadmium rods to absorb neutrons, the neutron density in the reactor would rise sharply. The circuit system immediately triggered alarms; this was not the normal operating mode for the nuclear power chamber, but what Chu Zihang wanted was for it to overheat.

“Caesar, the password! Give me the password!” Chu Zihang shouted.

“You don’t need a password! Passwords are for activating high-power sources. You are currently brute-forcing the security of the nuclear power chamber. What password do you need for brute-forcing?” Caesar replied. “And I’ve already entered it incorrectly several times; I can’t even guess the correct password now.”

“Wasn’t the password something you set yourself? How could you forget it?”

“The password was set on that night when I was drinking. I remember I set Nono’s birthday as the password, but now it doesn’t work no matter how I input it. Neither the year-month-day nor the day-month-year order is correct.”

“Is this password too easy to guess?”

“The password for the high-power source is merely a confirmation step. Who would secretly infiltrate the Trieste to play with the high-power source? The Yamata no Orochi has dozens of people guarding it day and night.”

“Success! I bypassed the password step; the nuclear power chamber is overheating and ready for throwing at any moment.” Chu Zihang set the state of the cadmium rods to locked.

“Great, great! Now prepare to set sail!” Caesar pushed the output valve of the low-power source to the maximum, and the lithium battery pack provided energy to the propeller at full power, expelling seawater from all the pressure-tight chambers. The submersible began to rise, and the underwater currents had become chaotic. Caesar struggled to stabilize the machine, which sprayed air in all directions to steady itself, producing a sound like a bagpipe from the high-speed flow of gas in the pipes. Lu Mingfei and Chu Zihang strapped themselves tightly into their seats with safety belts.

“Nono, this is my first version of a farewell letter. There’s a high chance it will be deleted in half an hour, but if you hear this recording, it means this farewell letter has unfortunately taken effect,” Caesar’s voice was low.

Lu Mingfei was taken aback, suddenly realizing that Caesar was recording a farewell letter through the communication channel.

“Although I proposed, I never took you home to meet my family. It might leave you with a sense of insincerity. But my family is a bunch of idiots; if possible, I hope you never meet them. I’ve heard your family is also a bunch of idiots, so I never asked to meet them. But if you’re willing to let me meet them, I would actually be very open to it. I considered trying to act like a Chinese-style son-in-law, discussing Chinese culture with them or something. I could wear a Tang suit and bring ham, eggs, and various ingredients as gifts, though honestly, that sounds incredibly silly to me.

“To be honest, I have a bit of pre-marital anxiety. My classmates say women change after getting married; after a wedding, they overnight transform from little girls into middle-aged women. But in my heart, you’ve always been a mature woman; you’ve never been a little girl, so perhaps you won’t turn into a middle-aged woman. However, I still have some fear. I have to tell the truth; you’re not the only girl I’ve loved in my life; I wasn’t truthful about that. The girl I loved before was in high school, and now she is the fiancée of the third in line to the British royal family. She has nothing that compares to you, but I must say that my unease stems from her. I started to feel weary of her because one day I suddenly realized that I completely understood her. When we had dinner, I would watch her mouth and guess what she would say next, and I got every guess right. I knew her taste in jewelry and understood her view of the upper class. Standing with her on the little streets of Oxford filled with restaurants, I could guess which shop she would choose that sells light beer and Angus beef burgers. I even knew that when she got up to go to the restroom during dinner, it was almost certainly to call the butler to arrange for a money transfer; she always spent every penny in her account.”

The Trieste struggled in the currents, and the propeller made a stuttering sound, but Lu Mingfei’s attention was entirely on the farewell letter Caesar was dictating.
