Dragon Raja 3; Chapter 365: Grand Escape Into the Sunlight (2)

Dragon Raja 3

The concept of “living” didn’t mean waiting around to die slowly—it meant running, running as far as possible to see as much of the world as you could, running until you were utterly exhausted so you wouldn’t have any regrets. Many people get to bask in the sunlight every day, but they don’t understand the meaning of “truly living” like this girl who so rarely gets to see it.

That’s why, no matter how much she suffered, she never showed it. She ate all the cheap food with relish, wore different beautiful outfits every day, proudly showed off her youthful skin, and marveled at everything she saw, writing down “Amazing!” in her notebook.

“Erii, you’re amazing,” Lu Mingfei wrote.

Erii smiled silently.

“Is there anywhere else you want to go?” Lu Mingfei wrote again.

Erii hesitated for a moment, and then her eyes, which had dimmed earlier, suddenly brightened.

Lu Mingfei stood up and took a jacket from the wall—a Hugo Boss he had bought with Erii. Apart from the formal suit Caesar had given him for dinner with Chen Wenwen, it was the most expensive piece of clothing he owned. He put on the reddish-brown hunting jacket with red stitching, slipped on his mud-splattered shoes, and used a napkin to wipe them until they shone a little. He turned around and extended his hand to Erii. “Let’s go. There’s one day left. Let’s visit all the places you want to see.”

“I can’t believe it! The bride and groom rented a Porsche 911!”

“They’re heading west along the Ueno Line! They’re driving really fast! It looks like they know our broadcast car is tailing them! They’re trying to shake us off!”

“The airship reports they’ve been spotted near the Honmachi exit, but they’ll soon be out of the airship’s surveillance range.”

“They’re speeding, and a police car is tailing them! They’re accelerating—they’re trying to outrun the police car!”

“They’ve shaken off the police car and are now refueling near Ginza 7-chome. It looks like they’re preparing for a long trip.”

“They’re shopping at a nearby supermarket. It seems they’ve bought a lot of snacks… and a giant Rilakkuma!”

Large photos were sent to Su Enxi’s screen via the mobile network. The images had been taken by the advertising airship. It was raining again, but just a light sunshower, and through the multicolored rain, Lu Mingfei and Erii were seen hoisting a life-sized Rilakkuma onto the car.

Today’s bride and groom were utterly brazen. Erii had washed off the carefully applied makeup and returned to her natural look. They were driving across Tokyo without any disguises. But at that moment, the elite forces of the Yamata no Orochi clan were focused on searching the outskirts of Shinjuku. They had likely guessed that Lu Mingfei and Erii were hiding in that area, but they hadn’t expected these two little maniacs to continue with their travel plans, boldly heading out early in the morning and even renting a luxury car. In doing so, they had ironically managed to avoid the Yamata no Orochi search party.

“Have the little monsters gone mad?” Su Enxi sighed, rubbing her forehead.

She couldn’t figure out what these two were thinking. Judging by their route, they were heading west on the highway, and at this rate, they’d soon leave Tokyo. But they didn’t seem to be trying to escape—the rented car had a satellite tracking system, and the GPS reported their location to the rental company every second.

“Crane, Crane, can you hear me? The target is leaving Ginza and heading towards Ome Road. You can catch up with them from Renho Path,” Su Enxi said, grabbing her walkie-talkie.

“Copy that. Renho Path, Ome Road,” Mai, riding a fiery red motorcycle, weaved through traffic. The heavy AS50 sniper rifle was stowed in the box on the back of her bike.

Her codename was Crane, taken from her long legs. The broadcast car and airship might lose track of them, but she couldn’t. She was responsible for handling any unexpected situations.

As the long-lost sunlight pierced through the clouds, the puddles on the streets drained away, and Tokyo returned to its orderly, bustling, tourist-filled self.

By the time Mai reached Ome Road via Renho Path, Lu Mingfei had already left that intersection five minutes earlier, heading west. The GPS tracker clearly showed him speeding toward Shikoku at 120 kilometers per hour.

Mai chased after the pair of reckless lovers without stopping, her stomach growling with hunger. She pulled her bike over to the side of the road, bought a cup of freshly squeezed apple juice and a heated croissant, and leaned against her motorcycle to quickly finish her breakfast. Dressed in her riding gear that showed off her curves, she caught the attention of the men passing by, who gave her flirtatious looks. The weather was rare and beautiful, with sunlight making the green leaves look almost translucent, and the cherry blossoms by the roadside swayed in the breeze. The gloom that had been hanging over her heart for days had unknowingly lifted, and Mai found herself in a much better mood. On a day like this, she should be riding her bike aimlessly, exploring the streets of Tokyo. If she hadn’t been on a mission, she would’ve slowed down to cruise around the city, wandering wherever the road took her.

In the end, Lu Mingfei and Erii had embraced each other, overcoming many challenges and making some real progress. What had seemed like an impossible task now had a glimmer of hope. If they could hug, maybe a wedding wasn’t so far-fetched.

Mai wondered if the boss had really changed and decided to write a love story. Maybe there wouldn’t be a tragedy in this season, which was so perfect for love. If that were the case, then she wouldn’t need the AS50 sniper rifle in the back seat of her bike.

“Crane! Crane! I see you’ve stopped moving! The targets are heading toward Shikoku!” Su Enxi’s voice came through the earpiece.

“I know, I know. Can’t I at least have a drink of water?” Mai replied impatiently. “Don’t be so harsh on the workers!”

“But we can’t track them without the GPS! What if they escape? They’ve got a good car and enough money—they can refuel wherever they want and drive around all of Japan!” Su Enxi sounded a bit panicked. “I’m still waiting for them to come back and get married!”

“Let’s leave it to luck,” Mai said coolly. “I think they’ll return to Tokyo. You can go on an impulsive trip to a faraway place, but the end of every journey is always home.”

“How dare you talk to me like some artsy young woman! Sure, they’ll come back to Tokyo eventually, but we’re on a deadline! The Tokyo Love Story plan ends tomorrow—they have to get married by then!” Su Enxi was getting exasperated.

“Just get the wedding venue ready and wait for them to show up.”

“Are you kidding me? They just got to the hugging stage last night. How far is it from a hug to a wedding? Why should I believe they’re going to get married? They don’t even know where the wedding venue is!”

“Miracles. We can only believe in miracles. Remember Ryoji Suzuki’s ‘Monster Theory’?”
