Dragon Raja 3

Chime had done all this to save him, but Lu Mingfei could do nothing in return, feeling as useless as ever, glancing helplessly around. Did he and Chime really share such a strong bond, one worth sacrificing his life for? From Chime’s perspective, it probably wasn’t worth it either. After all, Chime was of noble birth, while Lu Mingfei was just a nobody.

“Thank you, Lu,” Chime whispered weakly. “I won’t make it, you should leave.”

Lu Mingfei thought to himself, Could you stop with the polite words at a time like this? What good was politeness now? What they needed was a doctor and an ambulance—then Chime wouldn’t die. And what was he thanking him for? For watching him put on makeup?

“I saw your photo, and it made me believe I could kill Osho. If a young man can slay a Dragon King, why can’t I kill a demon?” Chime’s voice grew weaker, and he leaned on Lu Mingfei to keep his head above water.

Lu Mingfei was shocked. He had killed the Dragon Kings Norton and Fenrir, and that secret was only known to that little demon, Lu Mingze. Lu Mingfei had never claimed credit for these feats, understanding that a forbidden power controlled him, and revealing it would make him seem monstrous.

“So I knew you were hiding something too, but it wasn’t hard to guess. You’re the real dragon slayer. You were there when Constantine, Norton, and Fenrir were slain. Each time you were present, though others were not. At first, I didn’t believe my own theory, until I saw your picture—that evasive look in your eyes, but with a lion hidden behind them. I was sure then, you are the real dragon slayer, the one who has to survive.” Chime’s grip tightened on Lu Mingfei’s shoulder, his eyes wild. “I’m not saving you for any other reason—only because you’re the one who can kill Osho. I’m betting my life on you!”

Lu Mingfei was stunned. It was almost laughable. There was actually someone who believed in him this much, but Chime didn’t know he was just asking one demon to kill another. And Lu Mingfei had already decided he wouldn’t make deals with Lu Mingze again.

He couldn’t bear this burden; he was bound to fail this trust. He didn’t want to be a hero—he just wanted to live a normal life, waiting for the girl who belonged in his world to come find him.

“Were you risking your life just to kill Osho?” Lu Mingfei suddenly grabbed Chime’s shoulder.

Chime was taken aback, unsure how to respond.

“Don’t give up!” Lu Mingfei shouted. “We’re not risking our lives just to kill someone, right? We’re doing this for happiness! We fight so we can be with our friends and the ones we love after it’s all over! Your brother is right upstairs, just a few floors away, isn’t he? You still have strength left, don’t you? Let’s go find him now! Let’s explain everything! He’s the Emperor—he can kill Osho, he can do anything! You want to see him, don’t you? I’ll take you to him right now!”

He still hadn’t admitted to being the dragon slayer, but he had spoken his truth. He wanted happiness. He had no grudge against Norton or Fenrir; if not for Nono and Chu Zihang, he would never have made deals with Lu Mingze.

Even though Chu Zihang wasn’t his close friend and Nono wasn’t his girlfriend, without them, he would regret it—his life would be miserable. Everyone… deserves happiness.

A flicker of confusion passed through Chime’s dazed eyes, followed by a dreamy glimmer. Some force stirred in his weakened body, restoring a bit of his strength. He grasped the wall and began to move forward.

“Yes… you’re right! I’m here to see my brother! I have to find him!” he shouted. “I’m not dead yet—I’m going to find him!”

Watching his frail figure move ahead, Lu Mingfei felt a pang of sadness and a strange happiness at the same time.

Why didn’t you just say you wanted to see him? Lu Mingfei thought. This whole ‘negotiation’ nonsense—you’re just a little brother who misses him!

Heels clacked forcefully on the floor as Enxi strode down the hallway. Even when fleeing, she moved like someone of status, walking briskly through the VIP corridor. There was no way she would run like a frightened little woman, shoes in hand.

“Sell off all my shares in Yamata no Orochi’s companies! Dump everything before the news breaks! It’s not about making money now, it’s about minimizing losses!” She barked into her phone at her stockbroker in New York.

“You’re asking if my intel is reliable? Hell yes, I’m on the scene right now!” Enxi snapped before hanging up.

Wind Demon Kotarou had underestimated her. At times she could be charming and innocent, but deep inside, she was as cunning as they come. Her frightened expressions had only been an act—what she really feared was losing the massive investments she had made in Yamata no Orochi. While Wind Demon Kotarou fought through gunfire, Enxi had already started cutting her losses, proving she truly was Wall Street’s most ruthless financial predator.

She then called Mai, but there was no answer. That didn’t worry Enxi too much, though—there weren’t many people in the world who could pose a threat to Mai. Enxi herself, however, was in a bit of danger. After all, she was more of a desk job person and wasn’t skilled at fighting. Not that she needed to be—someone who moved millions of dollars a minute didn’t have to get her hands dirty. Still, she was always prepared. Her hand slid into her bag and found the Glock pistol inside.

She dialed another number, and this time, it was answered promptly.

“Good evening, Enxi,” the boss’s voice came lazily over the phone, with the soothing sound of Dalida’s Love in Portofino playing in the background. It seemed he was having dinner at some upscale French restaurant.

“You already know the situation, right?” Enxi got straight to the point.

“I just found out. I have to admit, it’s unexpected. Dr. Herzog truly is a formidable opponent, each step of his plan unfolding in surprising ways,” the boss said quietly.

His voice was cold and serious, not even a hint of his usual casual tone. This wasn’t like his usual self. At this moment, he was like a grandmaster chess player, calmly calculating in the heat of a fierce battle. His opponent was Osho. This was the first time someone had managed to surprise him like this. Enxi knew that anyone capable of becoming the boss’s adversary must be extraordinary. Osho’s moves had exceeded his expectations, and this type of game was exactly what the boss found interesting.

“Has the god awakened?” Enxi asked.

“Of course. Only a being of that magnitude could cause such extreme and rapid climate changes.”

“But wasn’t the god killed by Yamata no Orochi?” Enxi asked quickly.

“No one truly knows what the god is, right? People have speculated based on myths that it’s some kind of dragon-like creature, like the Yamata no Orochi, but there’s no proof. How could Yamata no Orochi claim to have killed something when they didn’t even know what they were up against?”

“It looks like Osho wants everyone dead,” Enxi said quickly. “In this situation, it’s hard for Mai and me to stay out of it. Want us to help Caesar’s group deal with the Oni Clan? I’d be happy to; those bastards wrecked my club, and I’m furious.”

A shadow darted from the corner ahead, and a shotgun was aimed at Enxi. Without even looking, she fired a shot, hitting the assailant in the right shoulder. She casually walked past, smashing his head with her heel to knock him out.

She might be a desk worker, but she was in a very bad mood and had also had quite a bit to drink—two things that always put her on the edge.

“If you like host clubs, I’ll buy you a better one next time,” the boss chuckled. “Don’t worry about Caesar and Chu Zihang. Your job is, as always, to ensure Lu Mingfei’s safety—until our great savior decides to step onto the battlefield.”

“Are you sure this time our great savior is enough to handle this? Honestly, I can hardly believe the sheer magnitude of chaos caused by one creature awakening.”

“If he makes up his mind, even a god is nothing but a crippled, lowly being in front of him,” the boss paused. “I’m not worried about the god. My only concern is Herzog. Chime was right about one thing—Herzog is far more dangerous than the god. I suspect his goal goes beyond just reviving the god.”

“But he’s still human. How much of a threat could a human pose? Even if he evolves into a pureblood dragon, how far can he go?”

“Yes, he’s human. But he’s one of the strongest humans I’ve ever encountered—a human who follows the dragon’s code. You have to be cautious when facing an opponent like him,” the boss said softly. “Your files won’t tell you the full story about Dr. Herzog, but I know him well. After all, we’ve been… old friends for many years.”

The call ended just as Mai returned Enxi’s earlier call.

“Why didn’t you pick up the phone? The boss said not to worry about Caesar’s group—just protect Lu Mingfei,” Enxi said, pressing the answer button.

Mai hung up directly, and the gunfire in the background explained why she hadn’t answered earlier—it was deafening.
