But as the saying goes, “seeing the mountain won’t make you reach it.” The winding mountain road stretched on, the hospital visible in the distance, but it still felt like it would take forever. He was so anxious he pounded on the steering wheel as he drove.

“Give it up. You’re not going to make it. It’s a great car, but no car can outrun fate,” said the person in the passenger seat leisurely.

“I don’t want to hear any philosophical crap! If you’re here to help, then think of something! If not, then get out!”

“Of course, I’m here to help,” Lu Mingze sighed. “But you won’t give your life to me, so if you want me to help for free, you’ll have to give me a reason.”

“What reason do you need? Didn’t I already tell you? 108 times in the Gamma Spring! Not once did Chen Motong give up on me! How could I give up on her?”

“By now, you know you’re not an ordinary person. Your fate line and the world line are intertwined. Compared to you, Chen Motong is just a passerby. Frankly, she’s not worthy of you. Your meeting was a mistake. The moment Gungnir marked her, her death became part of the historical process. You’re trying to alter that for a mistake, and that will hurt a lot of people.”

“I don’t give a damn about the world line! But Chen Motong’s life matters to me! Everyone deserves to live without regrets, don’t they? Tonight, right now, she is my ‘living without regrets!’”

Lu Mingze glanced at him. “What if I told you that even if you reverse fate and save Chen Motong, your fate lines will never be connected? Would you still risk everything?”

“I’ll walk my own path, and she’ll walk hers,” Lu Mingfei turned to stare into the little devil’s eyes. “I’m just glad that our paths crossed.”

Lu Mingze nodded. “Alright then, I’ll help. Even Finger jumped in to risk his life. If I don’t help, I’ll look like I’m not your brother, and I can’t afford that.”

Ten minutes ago, Lu Mingfei and Finger were surrounded by countless Death Servitors on the overpass, forming an iron barrel, nearly out of bullets. Forget rescuing Nono, they couldn’t even protect themselves.

Finger had taken the long knife from Lu Mingfei’s hand and draped a shotgun shell belt over his neck. “Go on, take the Maybach and rescue your senior sister. I’ll hold the line. I’m the soldier you fattened up with late-night snacks, raised for this moment.”

Lu Mingfei stared dumbfounded at the suddenly selfless loser. He wanted to save Nono, but sacrificing Finger wasn’t something he could accept.

“Women are like limbs, brothers are like clothes,” Finger sighed. “If you don’t hurry up, how am I supposed to make my sacrifice worthwhile?”

“Brothers are like limbs, women are like clothes—did you say that on purpose?”

“But that woman is also your brother!” Finger snapped the shotgun shut with a click. “Don’t worry! With all my girlfriends, do you think I’d be willing to die? I’ve got a special escape skill, secret and all. I can’t use it if you don’t leave.”

And with that, the loser turned and charged into the swarm of Death Servitors, firing as he went, the gunfire lighting up his muscled frame like a Terminator.

The last Lu Mingfei saw of Finger was through the rearview mirror. The loser had run out of bullets and was now sprinting down the overpass with a horde of Death Servitors behind him, like a marathon runner.

Is that stupid long-distance run your special escape skill? Lu Mingfei’s eyes welled up. He had told Finger countless times to drop dead, but this time, he feared those words might come true.

“The NOS system has been installed, works like a charm. You’ll know when you try it,” Lu Mingze patted his shoulder. “I’m off. Drive fast; I can’t hold them off for long.”

Like a puff of black smoke, he disappeared. Moments later, a billowing cloud of black smoke rushed past the Maybach, heading toward the distant lights in the valley.

Lu Mingfei reached under the dashboard and found a red switch.

He flipped the switch, and concentrated nitrous oxide flooded the engine. The Maybach accelerated once more, turning into a streak of white lightning on the mountain road.

Nono stopped shooting, leaving the last bullet in the magazine. She pointed the gun at her own temple, staring at Odin from afar with a mocking smile.

It wasn’t that she had given up hope of survival; she just didn’t want to die by that cursed spear. As the eldest daughter of the Chen family, even in death, she refused to lose. She was destined to die by that spear, but she wanted to alter that fate.

Suddenly, the unbreakable wall behind her crumbled. Black smoke rushed in with a shriek, and when it cleared, a boy with a doll-like face stood between Nono and Odin, dressed in a black suit with suspenders and polished leather shoes.

The boy casually knocked Nono’s gun away, then kicked her over with a cold gaze. “Chen Motong, don’t be in such a hurry to give up. You’ve come this far, and you’ve certainly worked hard, but you’re not the one who’s had it the toughest. When you feel like you’re about to collapse, ready to give up, remember there’s someone out there who’s been stabbed, bitten by dogs, burned by fire, driven off cliffs, and died countless times for you. Don’t think you’re the only hero here!”

He turned to face Odin. “Someone asked me to pass along a message: if you dare to do this, the only one who’ll be finished is you! That guy is a ruthless one—don’t say I didn’t warn you!”

Though he called himself someone’s messenger, he looked more like a true king. His presence stood between Odin and Nono, like an unshakable mountain range.

Odin stretched out his arm, and Gungnir shot forth, like a flash of wind and lightning, seemingly wrapped in the wails of countless souls, screaming as it flew through the air.

“Gungnir, you bastard! You’re really asking for it!” Lu Mingze’s pupils instantly turned pure gold. From the beginning, he hadn’t bothered addressing Odin; he had been talking to the spear the whole time.

He slapped his chest, his expression turning ferocious. “God’s Armament: Golden Cloth!”

In an instant, Lu Mingze transformed into a warrior clad in golden armor, charging straight at Gungnir.

It was a manifestation of the super armor from Saint Seiya, said to come from the mythological era. Just like when he pulled out the Hyperion Bolter, this was an emergency, and he once again activated his ability to summon virtual armaments.

The shining fragments hadn’t even settled before Lu Mingze slapped his chest again, donning the Taurus Golden Cloth: “Great Horn!”

Taurus Golden Cloth… shattered! Gemini Golden Cloth… shattered! Cancer Golden Cloth… shattered!

The mythological armaments were obliterated in an instant, but Gungnir continued its relentless advance, undeterred.

“Warm-up’s over! Time to get serious! Heavenly Aegis Sevenfold Rings!” Lu Mingze crossed his hands, summoning layer upon layer of radiant shields from his palms.

In a certain anime, this armament was the manifestation of the legendary hero Ajax’s shield, which had once defended against Hector’s unstoppable spear in the Trojan War.

The seven-layered shield unfolded like flower petals, each layer said to be as strong as a city wall.

With each layer Gungnir pierced, a thunderous explosion echoed, its speed visibly slowing, but it still remained on course.

For the first time, a look of tension appeared on Lu Mingze’s face. Just then, headlights illuminated Nono’s eyes as the white Maybach crashed through the wall, steam billowing from its shattered engine.

The song continued, the father and daughter’s duet still echoing, as the car door was violently kicked open. Scuffed leather shoes stepped onto the waterlogged floor, and the figure that emerged staggered.

“What the hell are you doing?” Lu Mingfei stood frozen, recognizing the Heavenly Aegis Sevenfold Rings instantly. Even now, the little devil still had the nerve to mess around?

“Gungnir is a weapon of fate and death; only a conceptual armament can stop it. But humans haven’t yet developed the ability to create such weapons, so I have no choice but to pull from imaginary constructs!” Lu Mingze spat out blood, struggling to hold the radiant shield together with both hands. “Run, brother! Go find your resolution! I’m running out of tricks! Gungnir, you bastard, I told you—my brother’s here! The real badass is here!”

The Heavenly Aegis Sevenfold Rings shattered, its luminous fragments scattering as an explosion of light pushed Lu Mingze back.

He spread his arms wide again, conjuring an octagonal shield with six ethereal wings sprouting from his back.

Absolute Domain! The angelic form of Absolute Domain! It was a sacred space constructed from the soul, the barrier of a lonely heart. In another anime, it was humanity’s ultimate refuge, impervious even to divine authority.

When Gungnir’s tip struck it, the Absolute Domain let out a sigh-like sound, and the light inside bled like red.

The Absolute Domain worked. Gungnir hovered midair, its shaft bending like a bow, unable to pierce the seemingly empty shield.

Lu Mingfei rushed toward Nono, but she was pinned to the marble wall by an immense force. Gungnir hadn’t even reached her yet, but she felt as though her heart had already been pierced by an invisible power, like a lamb nailed to an altar.

“Lu Mingfei! What are you doing here? Get out of here!” Nono shouted.

She couldn’t see Lu Mingze, but to her, it seemed as if Gungnir had slowed down, encountering multiple obstacles. Yet, she knew it was a spear of fate—no one could stop it.
