Nono suddenly stopped, silently staring at the solid wall at the end of the hallway. There was no staircase on the west side; where she remembered there being stairs, there was only a white wall. She still didn’t understand the Nibelungen well enough. If the hallway on the east side could suddenly extend into endless staircases, then why couldn’t the west side’s stairs disappear? The elevator was also gone. The spirit had clearly taken the elevator to the fourth floor, but where the elevator doors should have been, there was now an unbreakable marble wall, like the walls of the Roman Pantheon fused with this hospital.

Frantically, she kicked open the nearby patient room doors, thinking that if worst came to worst, they could jump out the window. With her skills, the height of the fourth floor wasn’t necessarily a barrier, and even if Su Xiaoyan were injured in the fall, she could still carry her and continue running.

But when she pulled back the curtains, all she saw was more walls! They had run into a dead end in this maze, and the spirit, as elegant as a British noble on a hunt, had cornered its prey, only now choosing to raise the shotgun.

The explosions drew closer—“boom, boom, boom, boom”—and the sound of hoofbeats echoed, slow and deliberate. The spirit had somehow ascended from the lower floors and was now heading straight for them.

Nono calmed herself. She gently guided Su Xiaoyan to sit on a bench in the hallway and slipped her own boots onto her feet. “You’ll have to walk the rest of the way on your own,” she said softly.

Su Xiaoyan stared blankly at her, tears on her face evaporating quickly in the rising heat.

Nono placed her hands on Su Xiaoyan’s shoulders. “Now tell me, what exactly did Chu Tianjiao leave for you?”

“It’s a child. I had a son with him. His name is Chu Zihang. I can’t find my son,” Su Xiaoyan said quietly, sobbing. “I can’t find my son.”

“Didn’t he die in a car accident? You’ve forgotten?”

“No! He’s still alive, but I can’t find him!” There was a strange fire in Su Xiaoyan’s eyes. “It’s a secret! Only I know!”

Nono sighed softly, pulling Su Xiaoyan into her arms and gently stroking her hair. She then took the small pillow from Su Xiaoyan’s abdomen.

The doctor had said that Su Xiaoyan tied this little pillow around her waist every morning, proudly declaring that she was pregnant, and at night, when she untied it, she would cry in sorrow.

Nono held Su Xiaoyan’s face and made her look into her eyes. “You don’t need this anymore now that you’ve figured it out. You’ll find your son, even though I don’t know where he is.”

Nono didn’t yet understand the secret of the world’s lines, but certain things were becoming clearer. In this twisted world, it was the mad who were truly sane. Lu Mingfei was mad, and so was Su Xiaoyan, because their bond with Chu Zihang was the strongest. Su Xiaoyan’s mental breakdown wasn’t due to Chu Zihang dying at fifteen, but because some power had erased her most beloved person. As a mother, she refused to accept this altered reality and had been resisting ever since. The pillow she tied around her waist symbolized placing Chu Zihang back inside her, protecting her son. The only refuge she could offer him was her frail body.

When there is something or someone you are willing to die rather than lose, anyone can become a desperate fugitive.

If the little devil were here, he’d applaud Su Xiaoyan. This beautiful woman, possibly of dragon blood, was not some world-ending super-hybrid, unworthy of the abilities that could pierce the fabric of reality and reveal the past and future. But she had achieved it, powered by the very human emotions dragons despise, sensing that on some unreachable world line, her silent and stoic son was still alive. To others, this was just the delusion of a madwoman.

But who’s to say delusions aren’t real? Perhaps, in some of your repeated dreams, there truly is someone unforgettable watching you from the other side of fate.

Nono pushed Su Xiaoyan into the lead-lined room used for enhanced CT scans. “No matter what happens, don’t open the door. Someone will come to save you.”

Nono was recalling that night in the library when Lu Mingfei had asked her to hide in the dark and stay put. Though she didn’t know much about alchemy, her profiling ability had helped her deduce the underlying principle. The spirit likely sensed its surroundings through light and water. For it, those completely dark spaces were impenetrable black boxes. She hugged Su Xiaoyan tightly and patted her back, trying to offer some comfort.

As Nono moved to close the door, Su Xiaoyan wedged it open, looking out at her. “You said earlier that you were friends with my son?”

“We all are, but my friend was his best friend,” Nono replied with a silent smile. “Without him, none of us would’ve made it this far.”

“My son is so lucky to have such good friends,” Su Xiaoyan said, wiping away tears with a smile.

“Then live for your son and for my friend. You’re the only one who can prove that he was right and that we were all wrong. When you see him, tell him I’m sorry,” Nono said softly.

There was no escape left. Nono stood in front of the marble wall, patting it as if she were deep underground, tapping the rock layers formed over millions of years.

Behind her, the hallway stretched endlessly, the firelight growing brighter and brighter. Water from the leaking walls flowed across the floor, evaporating into plumes of white steam.

The white steam transformed into countless galloping golden horses. The rider on the eight-legged horse stood far away in the mist, his overwhelming presence pushing toward Nono like a mountain.

“Odin… So, you really exist,” Nono whispered, biting her lip. She recognized him at once. But in this situation, a god was even more terrifying than a spirit.

She had done everything she could, leading Odin through countless floors and hallways, away from the radiology room where Su Xiaoyan was hidden. But she couldn’t be sure if a god needed only a single step to traverse that great distance.

However, she was certain now that Odin’s target was her, because every time the hoofbeats drew closer, she felt an intense pain beneath her collarbone. She pulled down her collar and looked inside. On her pale skin, an eye with multiple eyelids had opened, its eerie dark green iris rolling wildly. The spearhead in Odin’s hand had the same eye.

She still had her Tiger Fangs strapped to her waist and a Desert Eagle in hand. She could fight, but under Odin’s immense pressure, her mind was going blank, her knees weakening as though she might collapse at any moment.

She had overestimated herself. What Thunder Sister? In the end, she was just a proud girl.

Odin slowly raised Gungnir. Faint white-purple lightning connected the eye on Nono’s chest to the one on the spearhead… So that’s why Lu Mingfei had been staring at her chest.

That fool was no longer a child. His gaze toward her was no longer filled with desire but with the awareness of her approaching death. That’s why his eyes were so dark, why he had been so anxious. Nono remembered the night in the library when Lu Mingfei had suddenly woken up, lunging to hug her tightly, saying, “I’m just glad you’re okay.” He had been gasping, as if he had run across heaven and earth to find her. At the time, she had been so startled that she didn’t kick him away. Instead, she had let him hold her… In his eyes, she had read a deep, profound fear.

I wish I could tell you I’m sorry… I’m sorry, Lu Mingfei. I underestimated you. You’re no fool anymore. I just haven’t kept up with who you’ve become.

The eight-legged horse’s mane fluttered, lightning crackling in the air. The fate-laden spear Gungnir exuded death’s black aura. Odin’s movements were slow, powerful, and elegant, as if he were performing a ritual—a ritual to strip away life.

He bent his body like a giant bow, using the horse as a base and Gungnir as a sharp arrow, drawing the bow like a full moon!

Is this what the descent of death feels like? Nono took a deep breath and, using the last of her strength, raised both guns and unleashed a hail of bullets at the god.

Amidst the deafening gunfire, a distant, mournful song suddenly emerged. It was faint, but it couldn’t be drowned out. The fierce wind, the pouring rain, the thunderous roars of horses, and even the earsplitting gunfire couldn’t suppress it.

It was the sound of a father and daughter singing together on the wild plains of Ireland, beneath endless green grass and tall trees, accompanied by the roar of a powerful engine.

Someone was coming, driving a car with a roaring engine, racing against the wind.

Nono vaguely remembered hearing this song before, probably in a car, with Lu Mingfei at the wheel. The rain crawled across the window as if they were on a road trip, or perhaps fleeing from something.

The engine sound suggested the car was still some distance away from the hospital, but the music had already arrived ahead of it, like the lead piper heralding the arrival of a great figure.

Nono knew who it was. She didn’t know how he was doing it, but she was certain that guy was flooring the accelerator, drifting through mountain roads, the tires burning and smoking.

“Lu Mingfei! Lu Mingfei! Don’t you dare come! Run! Get out of here!” she shouted, firing her guns wildly as brass casings spun through the air, and the bullets melted and scattered in Odin’s intense heat.

Seriously… don’t come, no one should come. It won’t help. That’s Gungnir, the Spear of Fate. No one can stop it.

The Maybach sped down the winding mountain roads, and Lu Mingfei kept his eyes fixed on the faint lights in the valley—that was where the Sacred Heart Hospital was. The gas pedal was pressed all the way down, the tachometer needle jumping in the red, and the Maybach tore through the wind and rain.
