Dragon Raja 4; Chapter 141: Desperados Have No Way Out (3)

Dragon Raja 4

“What kind of relationship could it be? They aren’t mother and son, that’s for sure.” The woman sighed. “If I had to guess, it’s the wrong relationship. Wrong person at the wrong time. It won’t end well.”

In London, during a quiet afternoon in a penthouse on Regent Street, Su Enxi hung up the phone. After a brief pause, she dialed another number. “His Majesty has already gone into battle. Where’s your Imperial Guard, now?”

“Seven minutes and thirty seconds until I parachute. I can see the highway already,” Sakatoku Mai’s voice came through coldly.

“Good luck, then.” Su Enxi hesitated for a moment. “Could you also take care of Chen Motong for me? If we don’t stop her, she’ll be the end of all of us.”

There was a long silence on the other end. “People destined to be missed—what’s there to worry about? Some things he doesn’t understand now, but one day he will.”

Lu Mingfei was nearly out of ammo, and his body was covered in wounds. He had no choice but to rely on his claws for close combat with the Einherjar. It wasn’t as easy as it had been when his firepower was sufficient.

Lu Mingze’s boost had enhanced his physical abilities and reflexes, allowing him to move swiftly between enemies, but the claws still left deep or shallow cuts on his body. One of the Einherjar had even pierced his left thigh.

Kneeling in the pooling water, Lu Mingfei drew his final firearm—a S&W M500 revolver. The gunshot thundered, and the head of the attacking Einherjar exploded.

Its hood was burned away, revealing a grotesque, twisted face, mottled with scales and jagged fangs—like a monstrous blend of a snake and a human skull.

These Einherjar were essentially Death Servitors made from the bodies of hybrids. It wasn’t surprising; after all, Odin had been confirmed as one of the Dragon Kings, and his throne was a Dragon King’s throne.

A terrifying thought occurred to Lu Mingfei—maybe it wasn’t just Odin. What if all the gods of Norse mythology were dragons?

The experts of the Secret Party had always dismissed the idea of gods. If another race had wielded supernatural powers in history, why hadn’t they revealed themselves? But what if Norse mythology wasn’t about humans at all, but dragon history? The wars were their own internal conflicts. Giants were dragons, and gods were dragons too. The Black Dragon had been killed by his descendants. He was the enemy of both humans and dragon kings. His return should terrify his children even more than humans. The gods foresaw Ragnarok not because of fate, but because they knew the Black Dragon all too well. They had killed him once but still lived in his shadow, knowing they could never prevent his return. So they prepared for the final war, Ragnarok.

Chu Tianjiao had always been researching the Black Emperor, because that was the ultimate secret of the myths. The Black Emperor wasn’t just an enemy of humans but also of the dragons. He was a singular entity of power, hatred, and darkness, abandoned by the world.

Just as he was about to die, Lu Mingfei had stumbled upon an earth-shattering secret. But he had no time left to deliver the message. Lu Mingze had been right all along—pure willpower couldn’t bridge the gap of absolute power. Even if Chu Tianjiao had brought this entire arsenal, he wouldn’t have reached Odin.

He had hoped that Odin would trigger his Wild Hunt mode, which might have given him a fair chance in combat. But tonight, Odin didn’t even bother showing up, sending only his minions to nearly deplete Lu Mingfei’s life.

Some enemies in this world couldn’t be taken down by sheer determination alone. Games were games, and reality was reality—not every passionate boy could win the girl of his dreams.

Where was that girl now, anyway? Lu Mingfei wiped the blood off his face, lost in thought.

“Maybe she’s busy helping Finger pack, or maybe she’s having another beer. Perhaps she’s with Finger, uncle, and aunt having dinner, with steam rising from the dumplings on the table, and uncle is drunk again, holding her hand and saying things he shouldn’t…,” Lu Mingfei thought of the warm scene and suddenly realized he was hungry. I guess I can’t keep up the tough guy act for too long.

The S&W M500 spat out a foot-long flame, and Lu Mingfei’s claw blades danced like butterflies as he stumbled forward, dragging his injured leg, inching closer to Odin.

He looked like a desperate assassin, trying to break through the imperial guards’ defense to assassinate the emperor. But the great emperor, high and mighty, didn’t even bother to glance at him.

In truth, Lu Mingfei did have the skills to assassinate the emperor, if only he made that final deal with Lu Mingze, trading the last quarter of his life. Doing so would completely flip the situation. But instinct warned him—this would be a mistake of colossal, irreversible proportions.

The S&W M500 was empty. Lu Mingfei tossed the gun at the Einherjar and was about to draw new claw blades when, suddenly, the Einherjar surrounding him backed away in unison. Rapid footsteps echoed from behind—one of the Einherjar was rushing in with a curved long blade.

Lu Mingfei recognized the figure—it was the red-faced Daimyo. But this wasn’t the γ-Spring version, so its appearance wasn’t as flashy. It was just a tattered black robe.

In a direct confrontation, Lu Mingfei, in full health, might stand a chance against the red-faced Daimyo. But being ambushed from behind, he didn’t even have time to react. He could almost hear the sound of death approaching, but as long as there’s life, you can’t just sit and wait for it. He turned his claw blades, using them as if they were his Tiger Fang, spinning into a Tornado, Falling Star, Tiger Passing Through the Mountain—his signature triple combo.

Yet, no matter how skilled his combat techniques, they were no match for the sheer length and power of the opponent’s alien bone blade, nearly two meters long. The impact sent Lu Mingfei’s claw blades flying. He stumbled back, his injured leg suddenly giving out, and he fell flat on his back. He saw the red-faced Daimyo drag the bone blade, lunging toward him. Death was inches away, but then he heard the high-pitched roar of an engine. Something was approaching fast.

The next second—bang—the red-faced Daimyo was sent flying, landing face-first in the mud.

A magenta BYD spun to a stop next to Lu Mingfei, its rear end spewing black smoke, headlights glowing like a leopard’s eyes.

A rugged man in a checkered shirt leaned out of the window, glanced at the Daimyo lying broken, and yelled, “Holy crap! A ghost! I’m so scared!” He pulled out a large-caliber pistol and shot the Death Servitor’s head three times. “Please don’t get back up! Thank you!”

He spat out his cigar stub and jerked his head toward Lu Mingfei. “What are you waiting for? Get in!”

Lu Mingfei was dumbfounded. Finger’s entrance was nothing short of divine intervention, even overshadowing his own earlier badassery.

With no time to open the door, Lu Mingfei dragged his injured leg and climbed onto the car’s roof. Finger shot down the Einherjar chasing him, reversed the car, and ran over them.

“Why are you here?” Lu Mingfei clung tightly to the roof rack.

“How should I know?” Finger sighed as he shattered the windshield with the butt of his gun, still firing. “I was making hand-rolled noodles with your aunt for two hours, just about to add them to the soup, when the hospital called saying you were missing…”

“Can you not talk about noodles? I’m starving here!”

The BYD plowed through the crowd of Einherjar, its front grille knocking down four or five while its rear bumper dragged several more, black blood splattering everywhere.

“So I came to find you! Didn’t expect you to be so busy!” Finger emptied his pistol, pulled out a submachine gun, and kept firing without a moment’s rest.

“Don’t try to fool me! I’ve always thought you were suspicious! No one else came to help me, and suddenly you show up? Since when were you this loyal? How did you avoid EVA’s all-seeing eye? Even if you knew I ran away from the hospital, how’d you find me so quickly? This isn’t a park; this is Nibelungen! Spill it, we’re both close to dying anyway, so stop hiding!”

“You don’t trust your brother?!” Finger whined as he blew the brains out of a Death Servitor. “Finding you was easy! I put a tracker in your senior sister’s clothes—why wouldn’t I put one in yours? I saw your signal on the highway and thought you were running away. How was I supposed to know you were here killing Death Servitors? If I’d known, I wouldn’t have come! And you’re saying I’m too loyal? Am I wronged or what?”

“Bull! Then how do you explain all the guns… And now you’ve got grenades?! Could you throw those further? I’m still on the roof, you know!”

The BYD roared through the smoke as Finger sharply swerved, lifting one side of the car to shield Lu Mingfei from the shrapnel.

“Where did you get all these guns? I haven’t even asked you yet! I saw you left that rocket launcher over there too!”

“This is going to take a while to explain!”

“Well, I’ve got a long story too, okay?” Finger sighed. “Fine, fine! I’ll confess. Vice principal sent me to keep an eye on you, and these guns are from him.”

“The vice principal believes that Senior Brother exists?” Lu Mingfei suddenly felt warmth in his heart.

“He didn’t say that, but he did say that even if you’re crazy, we can’t just leave you alone. Who knows, you might even be the principal’s illegitimate son.”

“What the hell! That old joke again? It’s getting stale, don’t you think?”

“But I didn’t think this mission would be so dangerous. My loyalty’s running thin!” Finger slammed on the brakes—they had reached a dead end.

The fire from the incendiary grenades had been extinguished by the rain, and the smoke had cleared, leaving them exposed in the Einherjar’s encirclement. More of them rushed in from the slopes, and some of them spread their wings, hovering in the storm, filling the sky.
