Dragon Raja 4; Chapter 103: Gate of the Nibelungen (7)

Dragon Raja 4

Gungnir pursued them from behind, and suddenly time seemed to slow. Lu Mingfei could clearly see the trajectory of the spear. It approached with the roar of wind and thunder, overtaking the Maybach, then sharply turned and came shooting back toward them from the front, shattering the windshield into fragments. At the same time, Nono let out a painful groan. Below her collarbone, where that dark wound had appeared, golden flames ignited, instantly burning away her clothing. Her pale skin was still stained with blood, and in the spot where the lightning flower had struck, an eerie eye had opened! On the tip of Gungnir, there was a similar eye, and the two eyes gazed deeply at each other.

What was that thing? Why was it on Nono? Were those two eyes… connected by fate? Destined to meet?

Lu Mingfei had no time to think about these questions. He wanted to leap toward Nono, but the overwhelming inertia pinned him to his seat, making it impossible to move.

“Lu Mingze! Lu Mingze! Lu Mingze!” he yelled in panic.

Time finally stopped. Lu Mingze’s will had already descended, freezing the chain of causality at the last possible moment.

The Maybach stopped spinning, Gungnir halted in mid-flight, and the shattered glass fragments hung suspended in the air like a rain of stars. Lu Mingfei gasped for breath, still shaken.

“You still have time to say goodbye,” Lu Mingze said softly.

Lu Mingfei slowly turned his head. Lu Mingze stood there in a black suit, wearing a white tie, holding a bouquet of white roses in his arms.

“Bastard! Senior sister isn’t dead yet!” Lu Mingfei glared at him. “I called you to help, not to deliver flowers!”

Lu Mingze had worn similar clothes three times before. The first was in the Beijing subway, when he bid farewell to Xia Mi. The second was at the funeral of that 15-year-old boy.

“No, she’s already dead. Once someone is marked by Gungnir, the number of breaths they can take is limited,” Lu Mingze replied softly.

“If you’re not going to help, then get out of the way! I’ll do it myself!” Lu Mingfei unbuckled his seatbelt, intending to kick the spear away.

But no matter how hard he tried, Gungnir wouldn’t budge. The two eyes remained perfectly aligned, staring at each other. Though the spear seemed to be floating in mid-air without any support, it was as if it had been welded to the space around it.

This didn’t deter Lu Mingfei. If he couldn’t move Gungnir, he’d just move Nono. But as soon as he tried to shift her, Gungnir immediately adjusted its position, and the two eyes remained locked in their gaze.

“The cause and effect have already been set. She’s already dead. What you’re seeing now is just the shadow of her living state,” Lu Mingze shrugged. “I’m powerless here.”

Lu Mingfei felt a chill in his heart. This was the first time Lu Mingze had ever refused to make a deal with him. Was this a situation even the devil dared not interfere with?

“For outcomes that can’t be changed, all that’s left is remembrance. Won’t you look at her one last time?” Lu Mingze gently stroked Nono’s long hair.

Lu Mingfei stared at Nono in a daze. The scene was oddly beautiful, like an oil painting from a master’s hand. The girl groaning in pain, the fated spear, shattered glass raining down like stars, a pair of eerie eyes gazing at each other through the strands of red hair—it all looked like two cursed souls in love. Every element hinted at death, and perhaps death itself was a grand, beautiful event, unaffected by anyone’s will. Just like how night silently replaces day.

Lu Mingze placed the bouquet on Nono’s lap, opened the door, and stepped out into the storm. Lu Mingfei shouted after him, but it was as if Lu Mingze couldn’t hear him at all.

Time began to melt, the wind resumed its flow, and the suspended raindrops began to tremble. No one was holding back the gears of fate anymore, and Gungnir started to tremble slightly.

“Go! Go! Go!” Lu Mingfei desperately grabbed onto Gungnir.

Time suddenly unfroze, like the shattering of glass. The immense inertia yanked Lu Mingfei’s hands, making it seem as if he were the one driving the spear into Nono’s chest.

He was still screaming, but the world had already gone dark. In that blackened world, blood, warm as a spring, soaked his hands.

The sound of rain was everywhere as Lu Mingfei slowly lifted his head from the steering wheel. He was sitting in the Ferrari—the one that should have been blown up—parked by the side of the highway.

Finger was standing in the rain, and up ahead, a magenta-colored BYD car had its hazard lights on. Nono was in the passenger seat, talking to Finger through the window. “What are you doing here?” she asked.

“Where’s the loyalty, huh? Three of us were on the run, and halfway through, two of you disappeared. It’s a miracle I didn’t turn myself in!” Finger huffed indignantly. “So, were you two on a date? If that’s the case, I’ll forgive you for ditching me!”

“Date your sister! We were out getting grilled cold noodles, okay?”

“If you were on a date, I’d say at least you still had some shame. But if you went for midnight snacks without me, that’s just shameless!”

“Don’t tell me you’ve been following us this whole time, sneaking around,” Nono said, changing the subject after realizing she couldn’t win this argument.

“No need for that!” Finger grinned. “You can’t blame me for not trusting you, dear junior sister. After all, I was the one who tied you up in the first place. I was worried you’d run off, so I hid a tracker in your skirt.”

Nono’s eyebrows shot up, and she immediately searched her skirt, finding a small capsule-like object sewn into the hem. She tore open the seam and fished out a silver capsule, which seemed to be a GPS tracker. Furious, she was about to throw it at Finger, but Lu Mingfei grabbed her hand. He pulled her back into her seat and started tugging at her collar, peering inside…

Finger’s face went pale with shock, covering his mouth with his hands, unsure if he was thrilled or terrified.

Lu Mingfei didn’t have the nerve to do anything improper to Nono. He just couldn’t tell if what he was seeing was a dream or reality. Could it be that everything that just happened—the Nibelungen in the rainy night, the majestic god, the wild hunt, the fateful spear, the grand and beautiful death—was all a dream? This dream was too vivid. He didn’t want to hear Nono and Finger bickering. He was eager to check if the terrifying eye was still beneath Nono’s collarbone. If it wasn’t, then it meant the world had just taken a little detour while he was asleep.

Nono, equally stunned, let out a scream before quickly remembering that this reaction didn’t fit her character. She swung a hand chop at the little pervert, knocking him out cold.
