Dragon Raja; Chapter 86: Stars and Flowers (12)

Dragon Raja

At some point, a thirteenth person had appeared, standing behind everyone else, but he wasn’t Number 13. He was thin and wore a black combat suit with no markings, his face covered by a mask, his voice made extremely sharp by a voice-changing device. Those in front of him began to sweat coldly; his appearance was like a fleeting ghost. If he wasn’t an ally, even the slightest stab would have killed him.

“Number 13!” someone whispered.

The captain looked up at the roof of the library not far away and asked in a low voice, “Who said that guy from Brooklyn was an expert?”

“According to his resume… he did very well in his previous missions,” someone replied in a low voice.

The captain turned back and slapped that person across the face. There was someone between them, so no one could see how the slap landed.

“An expert in solo shows, huh?” The captain looked up at the roof of the library not far away. A gecko-like guy was indeed posing in a very professional manner. He lowered his body and was observing the movements below with a telescope.

On the roof of the library, a guy resembling a gecko took a professional stance, crouching down, observing the commotion below with binoculars. That was their missing Number 13. According to the original plan, they were to infiltrate separately and meet at the Valhalla area. But when they gathered and found that there were only twelve people, the leader realized that there was a fatal mistake in a certain link of their mission. Soon he heard the alarm, then he hid in the gap, and then he saw No. 13 flying silently and elegantly between the roofs…

“It’s no use running around looking cool if you don’t know the way!” the captain muttered in annoyance.

“Don’t blame others. Whoever’s in charge should own up to their mistakes,” the person at the back who was not originally belong to this this team said coldly.

“I don’t need you to remind me. I’ve been doing this for so many years.” The team leader talked to Nan Ge’s harsh companion across eleven people, “I will make up for my mistake. Now tell me the exact location of the ‘ice cellar’.”

He took out his phone, feeling a bit foolish for having to make a call at a time like this. He shook his head and said, “Hey, stop eating chips and think of something. We’re stuck. The security here isn’t as lax as you said.”

“Hmm, looks like we have to initiate the backup plan now,” the voice on the other end said.

“What’s the backup plan?”

“It’s the plan for when Mai’s infiltration is obstructed.”

“You foresaw the obstruction?” The captain’s voice was full of anger.

“It’s easy to understand. We still don’t know what kind of person Anjou really is. He’s been the principal of Cassell College for decades. Do you think he’s the kind of fool who makes mistakes out of negligence, giving you an opportunity?” the person on the phone said casually. “That’s why we set up Number 13.”

“That show-off? Come on! He’s lost now!” The captain was almost dizzy from frustration.

“It’s on purpose. I didn’t include a map in his gear. From what I know, he’s the kind of guy who gets lost even when driving two blocks away from his house to buy a burger, so he’s bound to lose his way to Valhalla.”

“What kind of backup plan is that?” The captain was furious.

“A clueless little mouse will head to the most obvious target. That is his preset objective. As for you, just wait.”

“Wait for what? Right now, I’m like a cockroach in a crevice, surrounded by hundreds of people. The moment I show myself, I’ll be discovered. I can’t use my Yanling “”Word Spirit”. The ‘Night Watcher’ is controlling the surrounding field with his ‘Yanling: Edict.’ It’s too powerful, and I’m completely suppressed!”

The person on the other end chuckled lightly. “The Night Watcher will soon lift ‘Edict’ because they can’t find you. Their sense of crisis will prompt them to try using their Yanling, and that’s your chance. Once you can use your Yanling, who can find you?”

Professor Schneider glanced at his watch. An hour had passed, and the intruders were still undiscovered.

After the emergency status was triggered, all the cameras started working, and every exit was strictly monitored. They couldn’t possibly escape this campus.

Veins throbbed on his forehead, the unusual calmness made him uneasy. What was supposed to happen hadn’t happened, and that was dangerous. He couldn’t figure out the identity and intention of the intruder, and this feeling clung to him like a haunting ghost.

There was still a long time before dawn, and if it continued like this, the students guarding the various entrances would get tired, which would give the intruders a chance.

“Other than Ye Sheng, is there anyone else here who can use ‘Yanling: Snake’?” he turned to Manstein.

“I don’t have access to secret files on Yanling abilities, but at least one more can use it—me.”

“Your Yanling is ‘Void Snakes’?”

“My field is three times larger than Ye Sheng’s. If I could use my Yanling, I might be able to find the intruders, but under the ‘Edict’ of the Night Watcher…” Manstein pointed to his temple. “Our power is being forced into slumber.”

“Is there any way to ask the Night Watcher to lift ‘Edict’?” Schneider asked tentatively.

“My father?” Manstein paused. “Impossible. Only the principal can order him to lift ‘Edict.’”

“The situation is special. We can’t get the principal’s authorization right now. But if ‘Edict’ is lifted, we have 700 students who can use Yanling as combat strength, making us immensely powerful. Just for tonight—can we give it a try?” Schneider stared into Manstein’s eyes.

Manstein remained silent for a long time, then picked up the phone. “We can only try. That old cowboy… he’s the kind who doesn’t care about anyone.” There was a busy tone on the phone. After a long time, Professor Manstein put down the phone and shook his head. “I don’t know who he is talking to. Maybe he just doesn’t want to answer the phone, so he hung up the phone.”

In the attic under the church bell tower, the classic 1952 western film Noon was playing on the big screen, in which the lone hero, law enforcement officer Gary Goober, walked with a gun on the streets of a small western town covered in dust and flying sand.

The person watching the movie dressed similarly to Gary Cooper, in a plaid shirt, a rolled-brim hat, and cowboy boots with shiny spurs. The old guy lay on the couch like a huge potato, feet propped up high, holding a beer. The phone rang, and he picked up the receiver.

“Hey! Anjou! You’re back at the college?” The old cowboy’s eyes lit up.

“Yes, I even found the remains of the Dragon King Norton, and I’m preparing to do an MRI reconstruction,” the principal said. “You’re still watching High Noon? You’ve seen it so many times. Aren’t you tired of it?”

“I know an old guy like you wouldn’t like this kind of passionate movie!” The old cowboy said.

“I prefer Scent of a Woman.”

“You’re a flirtatious old fellow.”
