Dragon Raja; Chapter 111: Big Brother (8)

Dragon Raja

A middle-aged man, sitting on the couch and kissing his wife, stared dumbfounded at the woman who barged in. She was an incredibly attractive woman, making an incredibly striking entrance. She wore only a pink bathrobe, with wet hair wrapped in a towel. Apart from that, she was clearly naked, with two slender legs exposed… She held a laptop in one hand and a stack of cash in the other.

“Sorry, I don’t mean to disturb you, but I really can’t find my credit card, so I had no choice but to come in and borrow your internet,” the woman said. “You have internet access, right?”

“Y-yes.” The man nodded.

“Here’s some money as compensation.” She tossed the cash onto the bed, then quickly walked to the desk to connect the network cable. “You can continue doing whatever you were doing—just pretend I’m not here.”

“Lao Tang, where did you get this bug-like unit?” Lu Mingfei had calmed down because he was at a complete loss.

He hadn’t even had a few good days in this luxurious college, sitting in classrooms or libraries admiring beautiful girls, and he was already caught up in life-threatening situations one after another. This time it really didn’t seem like a joke.

“It wasn’t me, seriously.” Lao Tang swallowed. “You know my tactical style is always cautious. If I had known it was this dangerous, would I have come?”

“Could you guys stop speaking in StarCraft lingo at a time like this?” Nono said.

The three of them stood shoulder to shoulder in the same narrow alley in “Day of Liberty” where Lu Mingfei had dodged bullets before. They were less than fifty meters away from the figure spewing flames outside. Fire could flash past the alley entrance at any moment. Though it was dangerous, it seemed to be a perfect “blind spot” for hiding; the ghost-like dragon couldn’t find them here, and if they were exposed to his line of sight, he would relentlessly pursue them.

They were still alive thanks to Nono’s daring. At the campus gate, she had floored the Bugatti’s gas pedal, accelerating from zero to sixty miles per hour in three seconds, rushing into campus, throwing that dragon off the car. At this point, Lao Tang and Lu Mingfei still thought everything they had seen was an illusion. But after looking back at the melted footprints on the aluminum engine cover of the Bugatti and watching the figure they had thrown off chase after them, they had no choice but to accept reality.

“What do we do?” Lu Mingfei said. “Staying here forever isn’t an option. I keep feeling… like he can smell our scent.”

“Nonsense! What scent? You smell like raw fish!” Lao Tang said. “Absolutely can’t go out! Go out and we’re dead!”

“But why do I feel… like he’s getting closer?” Nono said.

“Where does the other side lead?” Lu Mingfei asked Nono in a low voice.

“That way leads to an open area—no cover at all. Do you want to be hit by a napalm bomb in an open area?” someone said in the darkness.

Only then did the three of them realize that there was a fourth person in the narrow alley.

Nono reached into the darkness, grabbed the person by the collar, and used her fingers to press on his throat, making him afraid to struggle, then dragged him out.

“Senior Sister, your moves are really impressive… Finger, you dog, why is it you?” Lu Mingfei’s eyes widened.

Dragged out was his good-for-nothing senior, Finger, who was somehow dressed in pajamas, holding a plastic bag, and in his mouth…

“Damn it, why are you here chewing on a chicken leg? What good are you? If Caesar or Chu Zihang were here, it’d be so much better!” Lu Mingfei wanted to kick Finger in the face if he could lift his leg high enough.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa…” Finger said.

“You think you’re a rooster?”

“I’m saying I-I-I-I… I just ordered a midnight snack in the cafeteria, but they said there’s an alert tonight, no delivery allowed… but students were allowed to pick it up themselves, so I came out…” Finger took the chicken leg out of his mouth, looking pitiful.

“Think of something! I feel like… he really is getting closer!” Lao Tang whispered.

Footsteps could be heard outside the alley, and it was getting brighter, as if someone were approaching in the dead of night carrying a giant lamp. All four of them went silent, drenched in cold sweat.

Lu Mingfei’s premonition seemed to be correct—the dragon could smell them, even if it couldn’t see them, and could somehow sense their location.

“This isn’t going to work, running like this. No matter where we go, it’s a dead end, and anywhere we hide, he’ll catch up in a few minutes,” Nono whispered.

“Stay calm! Stay calm!” Finger said. “That thing’s a dragon, right? A dragon that’s on fire. No problem, he’s on fire, so we go where there’s water—the pool! We head to the sports complex’s swimming pool! Fire-type Yanlings are weakest against water. If we can temporarily suppress his power, maybe we can put a bullet through him? The shortest path is through Valhalla. I still have a PPK—it’s been modified, a good gun that can take down a dragon.” Finger pulled out a PPK from his pajama waistband; it looked identical to the one Toyama had shown before.

“Why would you bring a PPK out for a midnight snack? Is it reliable?” Lu Mingfei asked.

“For self-defense… Theoretically, it’s reliable. Water counters fire—I got an A in advanced Yanling studies.”

“If there’s no other choice, let’s run!” Nono said loudly.

All four of them jumped up and sprinted to the other end of the passage. The footsteps behind them sped up instantly, the bright light like headlights chasing them.

The doors to Valhalla were kicked open, and the four of them rushed inside like stray dogs. At the window, they saw Caesar and Sakato Mai and paused in surprise.

“No. 13?” Mai said. “You’re not dead yet? Where did you get lost?”

“Captain… we’ll talk later!” Lao Tang said. “That thing’s right behind us!”

Outside Valhalla, it seemed like the sun had risen early, light blazing everywhere.

“Caesar! Thank goodness!” Finger was overjoyed, rushing forward to shake Caesar’s hand before Nono could. “Find a way to stop him! At this point, we can only rely on the Student Union and Lionheart Society!”
